  1. My kids (11 and 15) love the Anthem! The bumper cars, roller skating, circus school, rock wall, IFly, Northstar, escape room etc. offers plenty to do.

Going on Anthem first time next July...I'd love to hear more about the IFly and Northstar....like how much prep do they give you for Ifly and would a mild to moderate claustrophic have a problem? How long are you in the Northstar and how many people are in it with you? Does it sway?

  2. I always bring a book that I've been meaning to read for months....then on rainy days I find a quiet chair in the library and sit and read undisturbed all day.....unless it's not raining on my balcony, then I sit and read there all day. I know most people love to cruise for the activities and interaction with others....I love to cruise for the peace and quiet and freedom to do whatever I want to do undisturbed. I think retirement is going to work out well for me. :D

PS: It's not that I'm anti-social....I love meeting new people in the MDR for meals and talking over wine and dinner but for me vacation means NOT having to socialize if I don't want to.

  3. Sorry we probably aren’t going to be able to help. Email doesn’t seem to be effective at Celebrity. I would try sending a snail mail letter to Corporate Headquarters.

If you really want to get her attention send your letter certified mail, return receipt requested. This has to be signed for by someone in her office like her secretary and guarantees it will be seen by someone with the power to do something.....not that they will....but they could.

  4. You can also check onto the ship, then go back ashore if there is time.

That will depend on where in Amsterdam Eclipse is docked. Some of the ports area quite a ways from downtown Amsterdam....are you on the August British Isles and Tattoo? If so, we'll probably be on the same bus from Schipol to ship, and I was told we'd be by ship around 10:30 a.m. if we get the first shuttle. We arrive at 7 a.m. so I don't see that as a problem.

dlcc10 and others: Be careful riding bikes in Amsterdam. The Dutch use bicycles like Americans use cars and they can be very impatient with tourists! The bicycle has the right of way in Amsterdam and if you get in his/her way whether peddling in the bike lane or walking across one, you won't need to understand Dutch, to know what he/she is calling you!!! :D:D

  5. They might, but you'd be better off flying into Miami and taking the Go Shuttle to FLL for about $50 (shared) or $75 (private). There are so many hotel choices in FLL, virtually all the chains have at least one (beach or not) and many of them will provide port transfer for free. Your best bet is to check on line on the ports page of CC or just google hotels in FLL with free port transfer. For the return home you can probably book a shore excursion with airport drop-off in Miami. We took one in March that included an airboat ride that was a lot of fun and something you wouldn't necessarily get to do in Canada!

  6. Hi,

I have a B2B cruise booked on Celebrity,

Ship arrives in Key West on a Friday, returns to FLL on Saturday, 2nd cruise, same ship and cabin is back in Key West on the Sunday.

Is it possible to stay in Key West for the Friday and Saturday night, and get back on the ship when it docks again on the Sunday to continue the 2nd cruise ?

    Thanks

You've gotten a lot of solid advice and opinions. I would confirm everything with Celebrity because if I were you, I would want to spend the 2 nights in Key West too!

  7. Thank you !

Catherine and I enjoyed your post.

It would be a treat to, someday, meet you and yours.

    Michael

I'm with you and yorky. We have met some of the nicest and most interesting people at dinner.....the only time I met someone who was really offensive was on a river cruise where it's open seating every night....thank God...because this person was just horrid with the jokes he told and the way he talked. I think if you ask the maitre d the first night they'll do what they can, unfortunately, the one time we did that we went from eating alone to a table where no one spoke to us at all so we went back to our table for 2. I love my DH but I eat with him every night....it's really part of the adventure to meet people from different countries or states....I personally think that's the only way we're going to survive on this planet....we have to get to know each other.

  8. I am curious if the cruise industry is shying away from placing different parties together at dinner. I am on a Celebrity cruise right now. When booking, I requested a table for 6-8. They put us at a table for two. The same thing happened on cruise in December(Royal.)

Is this the new norm? I always liked dining with strangers and getting to know them throughout the cruise.

This happened to us on our Norway cruise and we hated it. We asked to be moved and the only table they had available was worse than eating alone...but on our last cruise we were at our usual table for 6, which we, like you, prefer.

  9. The article does not indicate that he was a passenger on the ship, but at home when this incident happened.

I Am sure not many people will connect the two (2) except for this horrible accident. That is if they do not understand that it is a quick photo taken somewhere where X had docked.

He could have taken the photo in front of his auto and most thoughtful individuals would not connect the two (2) unless the article tied them together in some manner.

    bon voyage

I can't even tell for sure the ship in the background is a Celebrity vessel.....

  10. I was irresponsible and forgot to do my online check in and print luggage tags :loudcry::loudcry::loudcry::loudcry:. Now, it's too late (cruising on Sunday.) Past cruises, I have had everything ready to go, lined up at the pier with my folder of printed documents, checked in, and got on.

What happens now that I don't have my luggage tags and online check in completed? Where do I go and what is the process?

It will be my first Celebrity cruise and my first cruise out of Bayonne, so I'm a little nervous as it is.

Thank you for posting.....I feel so much better now because I did the exact same thing on my last cruise. :DI don't know what happened, I had everything else printed just not my boarding pass!!! It caused me absolutely not 1 second of delay and everyone was very nice about it. When you get called to the counter just tell them and as long as you have your credit card and passport it will be no problem....they have everything in the computer already. :')As for luggage, they'll have plenty of people working and they're used to printing out luggage tags. One thing I would suggest is to make sure you have your own luggage tags on your bags......just in case...and write down your confirmation number and cabin number that will make the luggage process go faster. I have a feeling this happens a lot!!!!

  11. We always fly into FLL from NJ and stay there overnight before a cruise out of Miami because we save hundreds of dollars on flights and hotels by doing this. The last 2 times we have stayed at the Hilton Marina hotel on 17th Street. They have a very nice pool area and have a local taxi service on site which will take you around the area for taxi fare They have nice rooms overlooking the marina there or you can go in the tower for a little more. The last time we went to a casual place with very good food called Gilbert's 17th Street Grill. Atmosphere is not what you're paying for but good food at reasonable prices. I had the fried snapper (very large portion) for 19.95. Free refills on soft drinks, the young guys come around and help you. There are also 2 liquor stores nearby you can walk to from there and get your wine. The year before we went to the Boatyard which was upscale casual but much more expensive and much smaller qualities

We took SAS shuttle service to Miami. About a 25 minute ride for $15 p\p plus tip.

    Enjoy your cruising days.

We stayed in this Hilton as well and it is a beautiful hotel with an excellent outdoor restaurant....a real treat for us Northerners in Feb. BUT be aware that Feb-March is spring break for college kids and they were dominant at this hotel because of its size, proximity to airports and beaches! We couldn't get near the pool and the noise level was off the charts, especially after dark!!

  12. Hi!

We're going on the Equinox soon and I have a few questions for you experienced travelers. We are flying in to Ft. Lauderdale. The ship leaves out of Miami. I cannot find anything in the documents I received that says where the port is. I know some ships leave out of Ft. Lauderdale and some out of Miami - it isn't the same port, is it? I'm looking for an address for the port the Equinox docks at. Also, we will be getting in late the night before and would like suggestions on where to stay that is reasonably priced and comfortable. Should we stay in Ft. Lauderdale or Miami? Thank you in advance!

We fly Southwest so we always land at FLL and have stayed in both Dania Beach at the Hilton Garden Inn, which has a free shuttle to and from the airport, a very nice restaurant and pool area. They will arrange transportation to Port of Miami or you can make your own arrangements. We use Go Airport Shuttle for transport from FLL to port. You can book them on line or when you arrive in FLL collect your luggage and go outside to the shuttle stand. They have shared rides as well as private cars, the drivers are all very good, new comfortable cars and excellent reliable service. You can also arrange for them to pick you up at the port and bring you to FLL for your return home.

We've also flown into FLL and used Go to take us to the Hilton Hampton Inn at Miami Int'l airport, which is a lovely hotel with nice free b'fast and some really good restaurants within easy walking distance (no more than 1/4 mile) There's also a shopping center across the street and they have a shuttle to the port that I think was $10 pp and you reserve your time at check-in. You can watch the planes land and take off from MIA but you don't hear a sound!!

For the trip home, might I suggest the X shore excursion with the airboat ride and drop off at FLL. The airboat is at Sawgrass State Park, lasted about an hour and we saw tons of alligators! Down side was the drop off at FLL at 1:30 pm for a 6:30 p.m. flight! If you 've never done an airboat ride, consider it...if you have take the GO shuttle!!

  13. This kind of thing is often related to the browser being used. If one is using Firefox and having problems just switch to Edge or another browser and give it a shot. The problem with having so many browsers available is it makes things very difficult for those who write the code to interface with each browser for a seamless experience at all times. To the casual observer it may seem simple, but it's very complex, and can sometimes be very difficult to analyze and repair.

Thanks for the tip......I usually don't have any problems with Firefox but will try with Chrome.

  14. Haven't been on Equinox but have sailed many times on her sister ship, Eclipse, and had aft cabins. Any one of them will be fine...being up so high you might hear some noise from the grill but once you go inside your cabin you won't hear a thing. We were on deck 10 and all we could hear was laughter. Only fault I find with aft cabins on this class is the elevators....they only have two banks one mid-ship and one forward and if you have trouble walking distances it can be a loooong walk. However, if walking is not a problem you will LOVE your aft cabin....you'll be able to sit outside when others might find it too windy because you have the whole ship breaking the wind for you and the view is just spectacular.

  15. Rather than logging in with your user name & password go to the main menu and click on Cruise Planner. Do not put in your user name & password but rather use the option to locate your reservation. Put in you reservation #, date, name, ship and his enter. That will take you to your cruise planner. It is a workaround that I use any time I want to do something in the Cruise Planner

That helps to bring up your reservation but the 20 minute time out that X insists you take if you close cruise planner or get distracted for a few minutes is really annoying....and it doesn't seem to matter whether you access your itinerary through signing in or using res. #

  16. Just wondering if anyone has done this?

I'm nervous because our ship gets in at 8:00 AM and the estimated low tide is at 8:21 AM. If high tide is at about 2:00 PM, it seems the best time to get there is between 7-9 AM and we leave at 4 PM.

Should we take an excursion or should we just try and get their on our own? shii

This is one of the things I really wanted to do so any input you can give, I'd really appreciate.

If this is really important to you, then I would take the ship excursion...they'll get you off and on the bus ahead of everyone else and you'll be back on time or ship will wait (within reason for you).

  17. Avoid Inverness Taxis. Here is my thread from 2016. It may have been a one off but I'd never take that chance again.

WOW.....that would have freaked me out big time since I tend to be a little anal about getting places on time! And thanks to hubofhockey for sharing your experience with jacobite. I have gone from disappointed to thankful...I've booked the historical tour instead. DH is thrilled and I'll get to see Loch Ness, which is in reality, just another lake!! ;p

  18. I see my reservation online but every time I click on Cruise Planner I get the error "To protect your privacy the booking has been locked. Please wait 20 minutes and try again....."

Is this because I booked via TA ? Or is this a X website problem ?

    Thanks

It's the "new and improved" website. You can certainly do cruise planner and book other things on X web site irregardless of whether or not you used a TA. Happens to me all the time....MOST ANNOYING CELEBRITY!!!

PS consider booking a private tour in ST P! We did and it was pricey yet well worth it

I agree with you 100%. I've been to Russia several times and St Petersburg has SO much to see...it's one of my favorite cities! Last time we had cousin with us and we insisted she do 2 day tour so she would see some of everything. She went with Alla, who handled everything including Visa, and loved it! She even went to Peterhof, which is not to be missed. It will be exhausting but if you're only going to be there once do it, you won't be sorry.
