  1. Thank you all for the info. I think we will definitely be going to Chankanaab now...sounds like it would be great for my grandmother, not to mention the rest of us would be able to do Snuba if we chose.

Very sweet of you to take your Gram into consideration :)

    Enjoy your trip!

  2. This is the tail end pic of one of our water cameras so you can see the end of the film but I figured I would post it so you can see what I mean by rocky shore. It was still very nice, we enjoyed it a lot, as I say we were going for the snorkeling and clean kayaks, but I would have been disappointed if I had been expecting a white pristine beach.

This is the area just to right of the sand bags as you are facing the very clear, warm blue) water, and those are our clear kayak waiting there in the water:

  3. Many of the "all-inclusive" beaches have motorized water sports and I'm not interested in listening to motors all day long. It may be back to Chankanaab for us :)

nothing motorized at Uvas, it was very quiet and peaceful actually, but others may not have likes listening to our kayak and snorkel instruction, but that was only a few mins.

  4. A few good points made by a couple previous posters...if you are looking for a quiet, private, pristine white sandy beach this is not the place. We LOVED it, but we went on a recommendation for the snorkeling, which is what our interest was. The beach itself is very coarse sand and the shore is rocky, you have to walk on sandbags to get out into the water. There were workers actually shoveling and raking and working on the beach when we were there so I think they are trying to make some improvements. And, guilty as charged, we were a small group who dumped our stuff on the plastic chairs! LOL! But we were told to by our guide. I can see how that and the snorkeling/kayak instruction and all the tromping around on the beach by the snorkelers and kayakers can be intrusive to those trying to have a quiet beach day. But, the clear kayak experience was insane, so totally cool, you could look down into your kayak and see all the fish and purple fan coral and everything else. And the snorkeling was great too, try to find the sunken wagon wheel and nursery caves when you're there if the guide doesn't show them to you. And look for my diamond earring that I lost when I was there too, please! LOL! My own fault, shoulda taken them off :(

    Have fun!

  5. Sounds like your fins were too big. I went to almost shoulder depth water and was able to put them on well there. The trick is to peel the heel back a bit, stick your foot in-easier when under water-then flip the heel cup over your heel. They should feel snug, not loose at all. At Uvas you snorkle from shore so if you stayed real close to shore you could stand un when you wanted, tho you may not see much. We didn't have to go WAY out to see cool stuff, but were over our heads. I did mostly just what you said-floated looking down and around. I dove once, FUN! But not necessary to have a great time and see a lot.

    Enjoy!

Also, the towel/pillow/umbrella deal may change my mind about the beds! I didn't know that was offered, when we were there a few people were laying right on the bare vinyl, most were on chairs. For a pillow, towel, umbrella and good service I'd easily part with the $10 and a tip :)

  6. Personally I wouldn't pay for a bed. They are vinyl covered -hot and sticky?- and it's not like there's any privacy, and I'd want to be in the water! For lounging the chairs are fine for me. How do they control who goes on the beds? They were right there among the lounge chairs when I was there. People got on and off the beds just like the chairs. Just curious.

  7. Hey all...

I'm leaving on the Carnival Legend on SUN 2-24!!! I scheduled the atv and beach adventure thru carnival....I called and asked what beach we were be going to and the PVP said UVAS....then I asked if they had snorkelling and she said she's doubts it b/c this is a private beach and its pretty much desserted???? WHAT??

So my question is has anyone done this excursion or anything similiar where u ended up at UVAS??? any info would be much appreciated b/c i'm not to sure the PVP knew all the correct info!!

    is there hammocks

    snorkelling

    lunch???

    Thanks in advanced!!;)

Yes snorkeling off shore, just was there a couple weeks ago, lots of cool stuff to see snorkeling, nursery caves, lots of coral and fish...not sure about hammocks but plenty of loungers and even beach beds, see above posts for menu, good food and drinks. This beach is NOT deserted, it's just not a white sandy beach like some might picture, it's a bit rocky but totally swimmable and rustic. ENJOY

  8. Yes Uvas is torture on the feet-bring water shoes! Also the rocks and sandbags they have down are slimey and slippery, so again wear the water shoes. Dreas had us wear ours down the beach till we got to the spot where we'd snorkle, then he put all the shoes in the rescue boat so we'd have them when we got back to the beach. The snorkeling was great, we saw lots of cool stuff, and really up close, tons of huge purple fan coral... Dreas was great about diving down and showing us stuff and helping us to dive, but the fish were definitely more colorful in Grand Cayman. In GC we went with Native Way watersport, whom I HIGHLY recommend. I have written a lengthy review of our experience with them but with these boards being the way they are I have yet to post it, it keeps going into cyberspace. If anyone wants to read it I can email it.

  9. All I keep hearing from people is "don't drink the water or use the ice!"

Gosh, I'm sure I'm going to want a couple fruity drinks while I'm relaxing there... is it really something I should skip??

  10. It took me forever but I have read every post if this thread and after doing so I booked the kayak and snorkle tour! Can't wait! Thanks to all who contributed, it really made making this decision easy!
