  1. We have a choice of either a forward facing sloped balcony cabin or aft facing slope. I wondered if the forward slope would be windy? I have checked on the cabin thread but still can't decide. Hope someone with experience of Alaska cruising can help.

    Thank you.

  2. We are booked in 7163, and looking for some pictures of any of the slanted balconies that are similar to it to get an idea of the size. Didn't see anything in the cabin thread. Thanks in advance!

We are thinking of booking this cabin and photos would be great. Also does the balcony suffer from wind when cruising as it's forward facing?

  3. Thank you all for your help. Looks like starboard to avoid the smoke or aft on a lower deck for the views. Just one thought, what is the sea normally like on this cruise, I know the aft can be rather bouncy in rough sea. Also do the aft cabins suffer from soot, we had one on anther ship and it was dreadful.

    Thanks again.

  4. With the exception of our first P&O cruise, we still keep in contact, all the roll calls have been poorly subscribed. Personally I have no interest in Facebook or Twitter but I think many do like to chat on those areas. I did not bother with the meet and greet on our last cruise because it was such a shambles. One of the problems I think is that P&O does not acknowledge the roll calls, Celebrity have great meet and mingles that are always well attended including the Captain and other senior officers.

  5. We did our own thing in all these ports and it was one of our best cruises. Frommers has some really good walking guides and we used them in Stockholm and Copenhagen. We visited the Tivoli gardens and had a lovely seafood platter by the lake. We got the train to Rostock easy to do but not a lot to see, around where the ship docks is nice if the weather is good. They were selling takeaways off the boats along by the river when we were there, a real seaside atmosphere. The queues for the Vasa museum can be horrendous so if you really want to visit do the ships tour.

    Hope you enjoy yourselves.

  6. We have done two transatlantics and will probably book for Britannia. The first was perfect calm seas all the way, the second was very rough, we were delayed and left a day late to avoid the worse, we had poor weather most of the way. We did a trip to Hawaii everyone said the weather will be lovely after the first day, we had rough seas and poor weather. No one can predict what the weather will be like when you cross, just enjoy whatever you get.

  7. On RCI we had to vacate and disembark at 6am in Southampton, that's one of the reasons we have not cruised with them again!

On our Hawaii cruise with Celebrity we had a flight back from San Diego early evening and they transferred us to a lovely hotel where we had a day room.

We are flying back from Barbados in February and will spend a lovely last day enjoying Bridgetown and then go to the spa to shower and change before our flight.

  8. Have you checked,as it's tied in with your bank, whether it covers medi evac from a cruise ship. Some of the bank ones don't. They may cover certain conditions, but some people did find that it did not cover the above.

I think it's the travel insurance thrown in free with a bank account that are the problem, we pay a monthly fee, but still works out much cheaper than taking out a policy and they cover medical conditions. It's a good deal for us.

  9. Try looking on the Martin Lewis web site they always have links to travel insurance cheap ones and also those that cover medical conditions. We get ours with our bank account now but previously found a good one through that site.

  10. We went San Diego to Hawaii February this year and the weather was not good, rough seas all the way. They said the weather was some of the worst they had ever had. We were very disappointed as were told it would be better. We even had torrential rain in Honolulu.

    Hope you have better luck.
