That answer will guide whether you can keep your original policy or have to get a new one. It's not an arbitrary decision by the insurance company because they also are governed by their contract language.

Appears Don't Insurance is with John Hancock and perhaps Steve Dasseos at insuremytrips.com should be able to help with the policy.

Good luck and God Speed Don, may he rest in piece.

    Correction: Steve"s company is tripinsurancestore.com

  2. David, I admit I was puzzled when I saw the comment so I did NOT get it! It didn't seem like something you would say, however. Maybe next time an emoticon of some sort? It's hard to be sure of the tone of voice when just reading ...

Probably I should take my own advice ...

    Mura

    Hi Mura,

I did put a little devil emoticon but it didn't show up very well.

I'll try to be less subtle next time I'm being sarcastic.

    😏

  3. I agree that they couldn't wait to get us off the ship yesterday. Did anyone else notice that they were not sanitizing the tables in Terrace Cafe yesterday morning? I guess it didn't matter to them if those of us getting off were exposed, since it wouldn't show up as an Oceania problem if we get sick after returning home.

Yes, I'm sure that was their thinking and I'm sure it came on direct orders from NCL!

    👿

  4. This summer we were on for 12 days and had 2 advance reservations in each restaurant. ( Marina) Now I read for February we will only get 1 in each. Riviera) I wonder if the product is going downhill? Are they not taking care of their best paying customers? Does the merger come into play? Is Oceania trying to become more mass market? For the last 10 years Oceania has been pretty much a very high end cruise line. Is that coming to an end? We will go in Feb. but will rethink our July booking when we return from Feb. cruise. Not too late for them to change this policy. :(:(:(

Sounds like you are really fixated on things going downhill.

  5. We are thinking of shipping luggage to Cape Town for the beginning of the cruise. We are taking Oceania's pre-cruise tour to Victoria Falls/Chobe. Because the luggage will weigh too much, we have to store the bags at a location in/near the JNB airport. It does not indicate the exact location other than saying the JNB airport. As many times we have had items removed from checked luggage just in the U.S., I am not really excited of the prospect of all our items sitting in some storage in a foreign country.

I had a few questions about the service:

    1. When we ship the luggage, do we place the Oceania cabin tags onto the luggage before it leaves our home?

    2. Should the luggage be locked? I saw a suggestion to include name, address, phone number, passport info inside the luggage.

    3. How far in advance do you normally ship the luggage from your departure date?

    4. Is the luggage delivered to our cabin or do we claim it at the dock before getting on board?

We have used them successfully for domestic. We were flying from Portland to NY but spending several days in NY before boarding a 25 day cruise. We didn't want to schlep our luggage all around NY. We were happy with their service. Yes, we put our Oceania tags on and our bags were waiting for us at our stateroom. Well worth it for domestic. For international it gets pricey.

The price is based on how far in advance you are shipping your luggage and also by weight.

I understand your point and your preference.

We do not cruise on O because of the loyaty program - we cruise with them because we prefer them overall. The good loyalty program is just a nice bonus (and I don't mean only the free cruises)

If we liked a different cruise line better than Oceania, we would mostly cruise with them even if their loyalty program was not that good (or even non-existent). It's mostly about enjoying one's cruising experience to the max and feeling that you are getting your money's worth.

    Paul,

Totally agree but then some people need something to quibble about.

  7. On every board there are a few posters who are such dedicated fans of their preferred cruise line that they find it hard to tolerate any criticism at all. They will defend the indefensible, look the other way at problems and come charging at anyone who dares to have a different opinion. We are all entitled to think and say what we want. My advice is to just ignore those who are so closed minded and continue to express our own opinions, both positive and negative.

And then there is another group that is quick to pounce on those with positive comments and roll out the dreaded word - "cheerleader."

  8. Just received this. Ten hours of port time cut from this November cruise, well past final payment time.

The last one is the most interesting: Leaving San Juan four hours earlier, changing a 13 hour port call to 9 hours. The next two days are sea days before arriving in Miami on the third day! Maybe they want us all onboard early to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner.

  9. We got free visas as a perk. We need visas for India, Myanmar and UAE. Each is being handled differently. For India, we were sent an email (forwarded by our travel agent) with a link to the required documents from a visa agency. For Myanmar, we were sent the forms and must bring the form and passport photos with us on the cruise. For the UAE, I believe they have an arrangement and we don't need photos.

So it depends on the country. Ask your travel agent if he or she has received any info about them.

FYI, if you enter Myanmar by air, you can apply for an e-visa online.

    http://evisa.moip.gov.mm/NoticetoTourists.aspx

But this is not valid if you enter by ship.

  10. Been looking over plans tonight. Are there any that are NOT secondary policies? I could have sworn that CSA was one, but now their policies are showing secondary for some items. :(

We use tripinsurancestore.com. If you look on their site, you will see very good explanations of the different policies they write and the difference between primary and secondary - they offer both.
