  1. You do not have to be in a solo cabin to enjoy solo get togethers. Typically, the meeting is at 6:00 p.m. and the door will be propped open. Anyone on the ship who is travelling solo is welcome to attend. I have done this on numerous occasions as I cruise through CAS and they do not comp solo cabins. As for getting in other times, you cannot unless someone lets you in.

  2. Even if not in a solo you can join the solo get together and meet up with other solos. Just do it in the beginning as that is the best time to find a group you fit in with. It is also ok to enjoy some alone time. I have had great times planning excursions with others on this site and then joining up with them other times in the week.

  3. Question...when is this effective? I saw old Latitudes on the website.

Where does it say "per cabin" not "per Latitudes member". My DH is Platinum and I am Platinum plus with this.

I think the addition of Cagneys is a great option. Also the addition of internet minutes, priority restaurant seating, etc.

Thanks to anyone who knows effective date. We sail in 3 weeks.

  4. I love to gamble and my DH does not. He used to but except a very occasional table game he does not. He's not thrilled that I do it but I really don't see how anyone could hide all this on a cruise with their spouse.

There is the time spent in the casino, do they keep their money separate at home (seems like she would miss it), what if he really wins and gets a W2G,

promotions by mail from CAS, on and on.

With the lack of response from the OP I am beginning to wonder if this is just a spiff to keep folks entertained.

  5. Wowsers,

I just received in the mail a card for 3 free slot tournaments in 2017, 1 on the Dawn out of NOLA, 1 on the Escape out of Miami and 1 on the Breakaway out of NYC. I can choose to take 1,2,or 3. I will also earn extra points on my card if I take these cruises.

I already have 3 cruises booked this year. My DH is a bit of a spoilsport and says we can't afford 3 more "free cruises". Of course, I know the costs involved.

I am excited and hope we get to take all 3. Anyone else get this offer. They occur in April, June and September respectively.

  6. Sorry but I really don't understand your questions. I am assuming Carnival but you did not specify. I don't cruise Carnival so I cannot help you there. She will not miss excursions due to gambling as the casinos are not open while a ship is in port. Perhaps you meant you will use excursion money toward gambling?

Anyway with a comped cruise remember there are other expenses such as taxes, port fees, gratuities, airfare. Just some things to keep in mind.

  7. One of the saddest stories I have heard is the family with 5 children who were going on their first cruise for which they had been saving for quite some time.

They flew to Miami from their home in the Midwest. While on the airplane Mom got out the envelope with all their passports and documents. She put it in the seat pocket of the airplane and promptly forgot it.

It was the day before the cruise when this happened. She did not realize until the next morning when they were heading to the terminal what she had done. Calls to the airline were fruitless. They were stranded in Florida, missed their cruise and had to find a place to stay for a week.

Needless to say Mom was a wreck, Dad was furious and kids were beyond consolation.

Guess it worked out though because they took a cruise a couple of years later.

  8. We are doing the same thing in February. However, my DH will be on the cruise the first week and then he has to head home (he is driving). I was thinking of having him drop me off at Cocoa Beach and then take a cab back to the ship (weather permitting). Sounds like this is not a good idea. I can go with the flow but with being shut out of my old room and not able to get into my new room for several hours (had to have different cabins), I doubt anything much is open on the ship, where can I hang out?

  9. Several years back our Cruise Critic group brought personal supplies for local children. One of the couples in our group had arranged a meeting through their church and they picked up all the supplies (we had bagged them in groups for each individual)at our M&G and took them on shore. I do not remember what island it was. Anyway, it was well received in our group. It added a feel good moment to our trip (several members of Cruise Critic went along to give the bags away) but we did not.

Unfortunately, with luggage requirements what they are today it is more difficult. We fit ours in our luggage but some people bought theirs at local stores when they got to Miami.

If you have an affiliation with a church that might be a good place to start.

  10. All I can say...you are a fabulous storyteller. I do hope some of this was exaggerated for the fun of the reader. If not, you have my sympathies.

On another note, you sound like a wonderful wife, daughter and friend. You did not deserve what was dished out to you all week.

I wish you all the enjoyment in your future cruises, whether they be with your DH, your DM or a friend.

  11. Did the trans last October 30 and except for part of one day of rain the weather was gorgeous. I slept with my balcony door open every night. Was swimming weather about every day and I never used my colder weather clothes I brought except pants and a jacket a bit in Barcelona.

  12. I generally book an inside. However if the price is right I love a balcony. It is especially useful if you have different sleeping times or if someone is not feeling well. I read of two sisters sharing a balcony and one got the norm and both were quarantined for 3 days. The sister who was well said the balcony saved it for her. However 700 is too much for me regardless.
