Yes, i will be getting the internet package for cruise #1 . My biggest concern was printing my luggage tags for the second cruise while still onboard the first cruise . Will they charge me to print the luggage tags and cruise boarding pass?

Checking in for our post cruise flight, , if i don't get the internet package for that cruise, I am keeping fingers crossed for enough cell service to check in online while in Half Moon Cay. I do have SW flight but their early bird check in is $25 a piece, which is crazy, but for piece of mind it might be worth it. I hate the middle seats !

There is enough cell service on Half Moon Cay to check in for your flight.  We did it last  Saturday for our Sunday flight out of FLL.

LOL.  I recently went looking for a playlist for BB Kings on HAL. I do realize that they have additional songs in their repertoire, but not one song on the "core" list I found was from the era when I, like most people, form their musical attachments -- e.g., when we are roughly in the age group from middle school through early 20s. Most were from the 1960s and early 1970s.

Not that this in itself is terrible. Fun for a night. Don't want to hear it every night though...

Celebrity, on the other hand, is routinely giving us songs from the 80s, 90s and early 2000's -- not just in their dance club but in performance shows and lounges.

Believe it or not last week on the Rotterdam the BB King group did sing Sweet Caroline by request.

  3. It's interesting to note that the cruise lines tell us that it takes 60 to 90 days for a refund to show up on our credit card statements but if someone puts a deposit down on a future cruise the deposit shows up on our credit card statement almost immediately.

So glad you enjoyed your time aboard the O.  Thank you for your great review.  I enjoyed hearing about the comparisons between HAL and other lines with whom you've cruised.

You sound like me, a perfectionist when it comes to the written word.  Since I teach English (Language Arts as they designate that subject now), I feel every noun, verb with its tenses, adverb, and adjective must be perfectly selected and, of course, punctuated correctly.  Most posters don't care; they want the information or the answer to their question with no criticism of improper English.  I suppose that's as it should be.  LOL.

They don't think it be like it is but it do!!

I was looking at Hotel Traghetto.  Is it walkable to the port from there?  We have light backpack style bags that we carry on our backs.  No other luggage.

We are either staying 3 nights in Rome and then go to ship or 2 nights Rome and 1 in Civitavecchia.

We don't want to go back to the airport before transferring to the ship.  We will probably just take the train on our own. Does HAL transfer you from hotel to ship? Or, do you have to go back to the airport?

Is there anything to see in Civitavecchia?

Walk out the front door of Hotel Traghetto and turn left. Walk to the corner and you'll see the entrance to the port where the busses are located to take you to the ship.

Is it possible after arriving by the ship's transfer to then take the shuttle into the port town (and return by the shuttle) to buy wine before boarding?  Just wondering  after reading there is no walking allowed in the industrial port area. We land in Rome and are being taken directly to the port without a chance to purchase the allowed 1 bottle of wine each.  I've also read in other topics that you cannot buy wine at the airport when arriving.  Thanks for any help with this!!

Approximately one block away from the shuttle terminal there was a small grocery store that had a nice wine selection. I believe the name of the store is Todis.

I booked a Panama Canal Cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam through a travel agent. Per the travel agent's recommendation, I purchased HAL's travel insurance. During the cruise I had a medical issue and went to the ship's clinic. When I presented the medical claim to HAL's travel insurance I was told it was not covered as the travel agent had sold me the 'standard' insurance. To have the medical covered, HAL said I should have bought the 'platinum' insurance.  Neither HAL nor the travel agent ever said a single word before the cruise about their being different levels of travel insurance.  HAL has refused to honor their travel insurance and has refused to honor their agent’s commitment.

My wife and I have cruised on HAL five times, but we will not be back.

DO NOT buy your travel insurance from HAL. They will not honor it. Buy your travel insurance from an independent travel agency.

The last sentence of your post is the advice you should of followed.

One must shift their seating position approximately 8 degrees if you have long legs.  It is not inconvenient but interesting that designers could not foresee this.

My protractor gave a reading of 11 degrees.
