Insurance would be a firm baseline.  In addition, I wouldn't consider a lengthy or far-flung traveling without:

-- A travel pouch or envelope that contains any items I would need if having to leave the ship quickly (and not necessarily under my own power) such as passport, list of emergency contacts, list of medications and any medical conditions (including drug allergies) and detailed personal itinerary including current flight plans, TA phone number (if applicable) and so on. Things that someone might need to know in order to assist you if you were not fully able to help yourself.  I keep this in the safe for easy retrieval.

-- A smart phone (with a nod to a recent long conversation about technology) with a travel plan enabling me to use phone and data. The phone part is invaluable when the need arises to have countless conversations with family, TA, airlines, doctors, etc.  The "smart" part is useful in searching for hotels, utilizing your airline app to change plans, emailing (and receiving emails), using one of the many "translate" apps to communicate in other languages, etc.

-- Extras of any critical meds in case I am delayed beyond my planned timeframe in reaching home.

Other things I might do would be:  giving thought to limiting my luggage so as to make travel as easy as possible if ill. For example, on a lengthy or world cruise I would put some thought into making sure I have easy access to a small carry-on bag and what should go into that bag to get me home, leaving the rest to be dealt with by the cruise line.  (On at least one cruise line forum I follow, I remember reading threads for months afterwards about people from interrupted world cruises who did not get the rest of their luggage back until their ship actually returned to its original port, sometimes months later...)

One thing I found enlightening and try to keep in mind is something I've experienced with a few land tours I've taken: the organizer actually has a sort of fitness test that they ask people to do to gauge whether they have the appropriate fitness level to 1) fully participate and 2) not to be a burden or slow the group down.  I think many older people (my parents are a prime example) get around fine in their daily environment and may think they are fit to travel, but when put to the test are often really pushed or unable to keep up and deal with the physical rigors of traveling. As I get older, I can see the benefit of such tests to ensure that I am really as "fit" as I think I am in order to be self-sufficient and able to travel.

When I read this, I thought the OP was talking about her husband's bad medical experience and how disconcerting it was to her thinking about the possibilities of having serious medical issues while on a cruise.  I didn't interpret the comments as a criticism of the onbaord medical service(s) and their insistence that her husband be attended to at a hospital.

That's correct. I wasn't criticizing the onboard medical staff, they were excellent.  All I was saying is now I'm worried about booking another cruise.

  3. I'm wondering if anyone has  had a bad medical  experience on a cruise and  are now  leery of cruising again. Not exactly sure how I feel about it. We were recently on a cruise where my husband went to the medical ctr. After examining him and treating him, they said he needed to go to the hospital (we were in Aruba) to be cleared to stay on the ship since we would be at sea for 2 days.  Long story short he was cleared and returned to the ship after being at the hospital all day.  It was incredibly stressful!   Now I'm paranoid about booking a cruise.

Is it just me?  I find that that $40pp fee to register with Bermuda for Covid vaccination proof is pretty ridiculous.  Yet I can't find anyone else whining about it on the boards other than me!  lol

We have to show proof of negative Covid prior to boarding with our cruise lines, so it's safe to say that anyone arriving in Bermuda by a cruise company that enforces vaccination requirements is assuredly vaccinated and testing negative.  Why does Bermuda need a separate confirmation of their own that is just the exact same information the Cruise companies already have already collected?  Do they not trust the cruise companies?

And the $40 fee?!   In the overall cost of a cruise vacation this is a minor expense, but I resent having to pay it!  I understand it underwrites the cost of Bermuda having to administer this program, but surely the costs don't come to $40 per traveler, and the whole thing feels like a cash grab.

Looked in my ap and connected, as BIKER19 suggested, to an Oasis cruise out there now but it didn't list any Cats or Aqua or Frozen.

I wasn't trying to reserve (obviously as I don't leave until 8/5) but I wanted to get an idea of what time and what days the shows are offered.

Are they ONLY visible in the Ap when u r actually on the Ship?

You must complete the muster before you can book reservations for shows. We just got off the Oasis on Friday.  Don't miss the Aqua Show it was amazing! The ice show as well alot of talented performers!!

  7. just got back on Friday as well.  Our check in time was 10:30 . After dropping off our bags( which is very organized..porters directing you where to go) we parked in the garage,  From the time we got in line to walking on the ship it was 20 minutes.  We did the muster maybe another 10 minutes  DONE

and we were a family of 8.  Easy peasy🛳

  8. So I'm looking at a cruise that I really want to go on. Unfortunately all the balconies are sold out. I decided maybe I'd book an outside cabin, but when I checked all that was available are cabins on deck 2.  When I told my husband he thought that deck was way too low.  Wondering if someone who's been on deck 2 can tell me what they thought of it.  Thanks in advance

  9. I just cancelled today before final payment is due on 1/1/22 ..our cruise was 1/31.However I am not getting my deposit refunded, It will be a FCC. WONDERING Do they send me any type of form showing that. It's $900. And Ineed to book again by the end of May and sail by the end of 22.

I really hope MSC will read this board and see how many people will move to Celebrity , include our party of 6 . I hate to do this , I prefer to stay with MSC but we are not wearing masks on vacation.

Exactly..our group has 8 people...we're all vaccinated  and don't want to wear a mask!!

We are fully vaccinated and hoping for a maskless (at least on board) cruise.  If the policy remains the same, we will jump ship and head over to NCL or Celebrity.  Hoping that will not be the case!

When is the date of your cruise? I was ready to cancel . Our first cruise is Aug.16 so I guess there is a chance that  they can change the protocol and go maskless..
