The minimum for an upgrade on our sailing from ocean view to deluxe ocean view was $15.  They are forward facing cabins with a balcony that is only accessible in port. I understand the steward will lock and unlock the doors accordingly. But I also understood the ride up there can get quite bumpy. The other two upgrades we were offered carried minimum bids around $300-350. PP per cruise.

    good information! Thx

We just booked a cruise on the Regal Princess in a mini-suite, and were only given the option of a guaranteed cabin. After confirmation, I decided to run through mock bookings to gauge availability, but from mini suites to penthouse suites I was only offered guarantees. Is this normal for the Regal, something new Princess is trying or, maybe the website is going through an update...? The cruise is over 120 days away so I would be surprised if it's close to sold out.

I put a hold on an inside cabin Regal Princess for 2/25/24  on 6/29/23. Could only get a guarantee cabin. CVP called me on 6/30/23. For $15 more pp, she booked a specific cabin for me. Maybe that is how it works now,

On the one hand, I like it because it's a space saver.  If you're concerned about things getting "bunched up" and subsequently wrinkled, you could fill it with socks or pajamas.

On the other hand, almost $50 is a lot of money for something that you're only going to use a few hours during transit.

    Thanks for your reply

No - but it looks like it could be incredibly uncomfortable because the clothes would get bunched up. I'm not sure but wonder if discount carriers would permit this as a freebie.

If you're looking for a neck pillow that will improve sleep, try the TRTL. I use it on overseas flights & even when in an economy seat, I get a good sleep with no cricked neck. You can wear it on your neck when you board,

    Thanks for your reply

This will be our second Princess cruise - our first was last year on the Majestic. I have heard about a Pub lunch and High Tea on Princess, but neither of those were on our Majestic cruise. Will those on our cruise this time on Regal?

The tea served is Afternoon Tea not High Tea.  High Tea is a working class evening meal. Afternoon Tea consists of little sandwiches, scones and small sweets.

Heading to Falmouth next week on the Regal Princess. It’s a port we’ve been to twice and have decided to stay on the ship this visit. I agree with Godde8ss. It’s a large, secure complex with cute shops, etc. But if you wish to explore beyond this area, book a tour through Princess.  I  generally book our tours independently or hire  a taxi tour at the port. Not comfortable making that recommendation in Jamaica.

I think we may stay on ship too. Kinda like a quiet ship with most passenger on land.

  7. We will be on Regal Princess in February. Wondering if Falmouth is a safe port. We are considering whether to take a ship's shore excursion or just stay on the ship. We are senior citizens and aren't up for the adventure of danger.  I'm interested in hearing opinions from people who have visited recently or are visiting now. Thx

Do you know if it was the result of cancellations by others or the decision of Holland America Line to add capacity? I suspect the latter . . . that HAL was simply holding out until the waiting list became long enough that they could add a full bus.

I don't know. I hope that is the case so that everyone who wants to go is able to go.

Trolley tour or Ducks in Portland or google " mail boat tour, " which is actually a cruise on the mail run in Casco Bay. Lovely scenery.

Also, fun to take Casco Bay Ferry to Peaks Island. 15 minute ferry ride. Less than $8r/t for adults, less than $4 r/t for seniors & children. Ferry Terminal located next to cruise terminal. You can walk around island in about an hour. Golf cart tours available (recommend reserve in advance) or you can rent golf carts and bicycles. Several restaurants, shops and local artists. I recommend Inn at Peaks for lunch. Downfront for the best ice cream. Civil War Museum has fabulous view from back porch.

Of these ports what excursions are recommended or better to just walk around? -

    Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

    Sydney, Nova Scotia

    Halifax, Nova Scotia

    St. John, New Brunswick

    Portland, Maine

    Boston, Massachusetts

    Thanks

I live in Portland Maine. If you are a pretty good walker there is plenty to see within walking distance of the cruise port. I've visited Halifax. It is very similar to Portland, easy to walk to sites. Both have points of interest further a field which would require transportation. Both places have local tour companies and taxis available. Boston is a bigger city. I would recommend Old Town Trolley to see the city.

  11. We will be on the Holland America Nieuw Statendam September 2022 Quebec to Boston 10 day cruise. We are waitlisted for the shore excursion to L'Anse Aux Meadows. Our purpose in taking this cruise was to visit L'Anse Au Meadows. Does anyone know of a source for a shore excursion to L'Anse Aux Meadows other than through Holland America? We would do bus tour, rental car or private tour with driver. Please let me know if you know of any of these options. Thx
