  1. Last Saturday I happened to be on a flight from LAX to Houston and flew over the San Pedro area. I recalled this thread instantly when I saw 4 ships in the harbor.

Sorry for the terrible image quality (zoom on iPhone), but thought I'd share! I think there's a gray cloud right over the USS Iowa otherwise I would have pointed it out.

  2. What about the food? I agree, Royal's entertainment (at least on Oasis) was better than I've seen on Princess. I'm really interested in comparisons of the buffets and specialty dining options on both. I enjoy the various food options during a cruise just as much as the ports and entertainment!

Here are my opinions of the speciality restaurants. I recently travelled on Freedom OTS, and have been on four Princess ships.

SteakHouse - Princess wins by a landslide. I did not enjoy my steak and meal all that much, nor did I like the fact that certain cuts and seafood (lobster) were up-charges over the existing restaurant fee which was already higher than Princess. $35 v $25. Realistically if you wanted steak and lobster you're talking about a 50-75 dollar meal. Not drastically different than at home.

Italian - I loved RCL's Italian restaurant and thought it was a lot better than Princess. The variety of food and offerings was a nice surprise.

Mexican - I also loved RCL offers this addition. As far as I know, Princess doesn't have anything like that anywhere in their fleet. I enjoyed it for that reason, and that it so different from normal cruise offerings.

  3. Smelly is right on. The term Princess and sale don't actually go together. The word sale is to give a sense of urgency and has no relation to value at any given moment.

The Mothers Day sale was actually a sale. Probably one of the better ones I have seen in a while. I managed to go from a Balcony to Mini Suite for 275 dollars less on a 5 day to Cabo in November.

  4. I stayed in 1888 and they were quiet except for few a exceptions. 1) When someone ran on the deck above you, I could hear it. 2) When the ship was moving and someone opened the door directly to the sun deck it would slam. 3) The worst part was the party they threw in the Solarium on deck 11 at midnight. My room was vibrating from the noise. Music and "screaming" could be heard loudly until 2am when it ended. I complained to RCCL because of how loud it was, they apologized for the oversight but not sure if this party is still occurring there.

  5. We were on Crown this past NYE. There was a balloon drop in the atrium, music and dancing and at dinner there were party horns for all and paper top hats for the men and tiaras for the ladies. It was a Formal night. It was a fun night.

I was also on the Crown over NYE but was at the other party up on deck under the Movie Screen with "thousands" of my closest friends. IT WAS AWESOME!!!!

  6. Did you have a suite? I have never had my suitcases put anywhere but outside my cabin door on Royal. On Princess, they put them inside for us.

I did not. I can't recall any cruise on Princess where my bags were brought inside. I had already moved my bags inside as they came first. When they delivered my hangers 15-20 minutes later they put them inside which was a nice touch.
