  1. You can withdraw the OBC that you put on yourself out at the casino for 3%. If the promotional OBC came from NCL it cannot be used for the service charges. Other than that all onboard purchases are covered by the OBC so spa, photos, gift shop, duty free, etc. Be careful because NCL limits how much OBC you may buy in a currency conversion as our Canadian friends found out not too long ago.

So, I can buy $1,000 OBC per person at $1.48/£ and then withdraw it in cash on-board and pay only 3% for the privilege? This has got to be better than changing £ into $ in the UK at sub 1.30 or am I missing something?

  2. OK, so I managed to bag myself some free OBC and I am thinking of topping this up by buying some more to add to my account. OBC available at $1.48/£1 compared to less than $1.30 at Bureaux De Change!

Question: On what can I spend my OBC? Are there restrictions? I am assuming casino is a no no as will be using it to cover the service charge. Am I right? I haven't been able to locate via the NCL website.

    Thanks

  3. For those who disembarked yesterday (Sunday 15th), did you notice where they were showing the World Cup coverage?

Was it on the big screen in the Atrium, in Spice H20, in O'Sheehans or elsewhere? Would be good to know as I am planning to watch one or two big games whilst I am away next week and would like to plan my time.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  4. In my searches on this subject there is a suggestion that Butlers will unpack/pack for you. Most of the threads covering this are quite old however. Is this still the case on the new Ship classes (Epic, BA and GA)? Does anyone make use of this service? I feel bad to ask them to do this if it is not a standard service. Obviously a tip will be provided in exchange.

  5. For those of us who are not from the US I am interested to know when schools closedown for the summer in the States. We are on the BA Sunday week - will these coincide with lots of kids on vacation?

No problem if it will but just want to be prepared. UK kids break from the last week of July so it's different over here.

  6. Where were you last week cockney?

Oh look! Haven people on their balcony!! When does that happen? Never!

Had to work last week Meatball - necessary to pay for my cruising habit!

We are in Haven and fully intend to be on the balcony when docking. If port side in 2 weeks I will be sure to give you all a wave - 3rd balcony forward from mid-ship on the top Haven deck.

  7. What time is it for you, cruisin cockney? Here it's 6:21am.

P.S. Haha steal a march on those ferries from the Summit pax for sure ;)

11.24 here in London. Not got the weather that they have in Bermuda - raining here! I am not sure I have ever seen Summit in first - this is a real advantage for those Breakaway pax wanting an early start as I understand that those ferries fill up fast.

  8. A £ credit card will do fine. Any spend will be converted to $ by your card issuer at the "spot" rate appropriate at that time.

You could deposit $ cash onto your on-board account if you prefer but may need to keep topping this up as your cruise progresses so this is not ideal.

If you use a debit card NCL will place a hold against the card for an amount (not sure exact amount) that will not be released until after the cruise has finished so, again, not ideal.

All in all, I recommend a £ credit card as the best solution.
