Thank you for sharing! I'm hoping I can get us moved before we sail in 4 weeks. Also, I just read that apparently there is a good bit of construction taking place on the ship. Did you notice such? I would not have chosen this particular cruise for our school fall break if that is the case.

I’m so sorry, I’m just seeing your reply. I hope you were able to move!!!

  2. Anyone who is booked in this cabin needs to switch right now. My husband and I just spent 4 days in that cabin and the a/c wasn’t working properly. They sent a technician to read the temperature of the air....76 degrees! In my cabin!!!! It was a sold out cruise so we couldn’t move. Guest services basically told us that it’s been an ongoing problem. So why put someone in that cabin?? We were given a fan and a $300 OBC. We would have preferred a cool room over the $300 OBC.

I hope I can spare someone 4 or 5 days of misery.

  3. I stayed in the same stateroom as the OP (10296) and I’m here to tell you that it wasn’t that bad. Yes, you can hear the movie but it’s not that bad. It did not vibrate us out of the bed, we did not notice the walls vibrating either. We loved being right on the lido deck, in the heart of all the action. Literally steps from the lido deck/pool.

If you go to bed early, maybe this isn’t the stateroom for you. Personally, we’d book it again.

I hope this helps someone who freaked out after reading the OP’s review.

  4. Are you looking at cruise ship excursions? I think that they put 250 lbs weight limit on most activities for insurance reasons. Try booking an independent excursion with a local company and I doubt they will have a weight limit unless it's zip lining or something like that.

Yes, I've been looking at cruise ship excursions. But I've also checked with some local companies and most activities that he'd like to do have a weight restriction. (White water rafting, river tubing, horseback riding) He's only 20 years old so he wants to do something action packed.

  5. We're going to Montego Bay at the end of February. My son is bringing a friend that weighs 275 pounds, (he's a college football player) every excursion that we think about booking has a max weight requirement of 250 lbs! We don't want to just go to a beach, they want to do something adventurous......any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  6. When you did this, did you have to complete the entire form (add credit card number)? I really didn't want to put my credit card number in the system so soon with my cruise not until Aug 2016. Why give hackers, etc, any more time with your credit card number. ( I am also at work right now and don't have the card with me so I cannot finish it. )

My friend selected their time without filling out any information other than the time they wanted to arrive at the port. In other words, they didn't even officially check in. No passport info, etc....and they were allowed to select their check in time.

  7. I'm curious how they will handle the sailings departing on Mardi Gras weekend. One of which I'm booked on. My check in time luckily is 10:00-10:30, which is perfect. The problem is, parades will be rolling in the area and streets will be closed making it nearly impossible to get to the port. Especially for those who are not locals. I hope they allow everyone to arrive before noon....if not, good luck!

  8. We have a group of 6 couples in Jan on the Splendor. Anyone know if they have a table for 12? Or will be spilt up? We are linked together.

I had a group of 15 on the Sunshine last year, I emailed the maître d ahead of time and it was taken care of. It was a little cramped but not too bad, 12 would be fine!!! And I'm leaving on the Elation this Saturday and have already made arrangements for 15 again. He warned me that we'd be a little tight.....it's really not a problem.

Just send the email about 2 weeks before your cruise, Just give him everyone's cabin # to make sure nobody gets forgotten.

    Have fun!!!

  9. Just got back from a trip to Progreso on the Carnival Elation. I'd booked a tour through Autoprogreso's website to Dzibilchaltun, and discovered a couple of minor factoids after we got to port that I'd wish I'd known before. So here I am, posting them for future readers.

NOTE: This information only applies to tours offered directly through Autoprogreso; tours offered from Carnival left from the dock itself. I can't speak to any other cruise lines' tours, but I imagine they would function similarly.

First, the bus from the ship takes you to Autoprogreso's terminal, where you can purchase a tour (if you haven't already) or board one you have purchased. It's about four blocks from the beach (though I didn't realize this at the time, and wouldn't have felt great about walking there), and there's not a lot to do. There are some vendors hawking their wares (cigars, sunglasses, jewelry, the normal things), but there's not much to eat. There's only one ATM nearby, and it only provides pesos, so bring plenty of cash for any shopping you might want to do.

Also, the tours leave at different times of the day. I think the schedule is based on the distance for each destination, with Chitchen Itza and Uxmal trips leaving first. Since Dzibilchaltun is so much closer, that tour didn't leave until later in the morning, which meant that my wife and I had to wait around in the bus fumes for a while. If I'd known about that, we wouldn't have rushed off the ship when we docked.

In case you're wondering, here are the departure times they had posted (as of 1/22/15) for each tour:

    Chichen: 9:30

    Uxmal: 10:00

    Combo: 10:30

    Tecno: 10:45

    Merida: 11:00

    Dzibilchaltun: 11:15

    Flamingos: 12:15

I had the same experience. The people were so aggressive trying to sell their merchandise that I considered going back to the ship. It was terrible. Had I have known how long we'd be stuck at that terminal, I would have taken my time getting there.

  10. Definitely interesting. This never would have crossed my mind. Thanks!

It definitely wouldn't have crossed my mind either if I hadn't experienced it.

    You're welcome

  11. great info, would have never crossed my mind. i will have to double check out my cash now. thanks for the info!

Glad to be of help......if I can save one person from making a mad dash back to the ship like I had to do......[emoji23]

  12. Same thing holds true in Belize, go to the bank before you cruise and get "fresh" dollars, smaller the denomination the better, $1, $5 & $10 unless you plan on paying cash for a tour.

Lesson learned on my part.....I had to go back to the ship to change the bills out for shopping.....

  13. I was just in Roatan last Thursday, I had several $20's and $10's that were slightly damaged, (the corner was torn off, or maybe a slight tear anywhere on the bill) and they wouldn't take them. Thank goodness I brought a lot of extra cash or I would have been screwed, we were on a tour to go zip lining. So inspect your money before going there.

Other than that, we loved Roatan!! I've heard that people don't care for the area....I'd go again in a heartbeat

I hope this info helps somebody.
