  1. I truly believe that parents need to take occasional adult vacations. Parenting is draining (as you know). Parents need time to unwind and relax. IMO this makes parents stronger over all. Parents are the foundation for their children and the foundation needs to be kept strong and vacations w/o kids can help with this. Further, I believe that it's a good example to the children that mommy and daddy enjoy doing things together and have a strong relationship. Your LO is too young to realize this now, but eventually he will.

Many people can't break away w/o kids because they don't have suitable caregivers. If you do, by all means take the opportunity. In a few years all your vacations will be child-focussed so take the time now. We have 4 kids and have traveled both with and w/o children. We're actually doing a cruise in April and we're taking our 5yr, 7yr and 3mos old children with us. Our toddler will be 24mos old and he's staying at home with grandma/grandpa. Although he would enjoy certain parts of the cruise he would not enjoy sitting still for the flight and I don't think he'd handle the change in schedule very well. Further, I'm not comfortable putting him in camp that young so he'd be with us 24/7. I know he won't sleep well if we're all in the same room and that would make for a tired and cranky toddler and exhausted parents that were wishing they had've stayed home.

    Don't feel guilty. Enjoy.

  2. We booked BL on the Legend for a very good price and ended up with an 8H, just below the Lido deck. The cabin itself was going for over $200 per person more than I paid, we liked everything about the cabin except for the noise from the buffet above.

I think what you need to consider is how many cabins would you really not want and what are the odds of getting one of those. For us, I pretty much didn't care as long as we had a balcony so it was the right choice for us.

  3. Hi,

Just read a member review. They said they had 3 comedy acts...and it sounds as if only 1 was worth watching... I plan on dragging my husband to one, and would hate it if it wasn't worth it (who wants to listen to the nagging LOL).

We're sailing in two weeks....any help?

    thanks,

    laurie

On the Legend last week, there were 4 nights in a row of comedy. The first night was a balancing act (Lubo was his name) followed by a comedian that was quite funny - short guy, I forget his name, the second night was all comedy with a tall black man and I forget his name but he was quite good too. The third and fourth nights were the same guy, it was an Italian name I believe that started with a "P". He was boring. I would go for either of the first ones and if you can stay up until midnight, the adult comedy at midnight was far better than the "family comedy" with both of those guys. Sorry I can't remember their names, maybe someone else can help. This opinion was shared by most people I met on the ship so I don't think it was an uncommon thought.

  4. Was it noisy on the Panorma deck? Room 8238

I just got back yesterday from the May 4th sailing and I can tell you that 8218 was very noisy!!! I'm nots sure where 8238 but I think it's close. All night long we heard carts rolling by overhead, things banging, doors closing, etc. It happened at various times of day and night no apparent pattern to the timing. Late at night, middle of the night, early morning, in the day, etc. I would ask to be one deck down next time for sure!

  5. From the funnels (engine exhaust), also can come from incenerators if they burn trash and other solid waste, not sure if CCL does this or not.

I know a lot of the new ships, like QM2, are "green" and do not use incenerators, but I'm betting that a lot of the older ships do.

I just got back from the May 4th sailing and got covered in soot. We were swimming in the adults only aft pool one afternoon and then all of a sudden we were all covered in large specks of black stuff. They were floating in the pool and pretty much everyone on the deck had it on them. It was pretty gross but we kept swimming (and drinking a little :D ) and whatever we still had on us after we got out of the pool we showered off.

  6. We'll be sailing in June and several members of our Roll Call would like to know what our "Theme Night" will be. I have heard that it used to be Hawaiian shirts, and more recently - bath-robes. Can anyone tell me.....which is it?

I just got back from the May 4th sailing and our theme night was bath robe pool party. It was pretty fun.
