The last time we cruised from there (about a year ago), you had to enter the terminal and there was a person taking names for wheelchair assist.  There were chairs to sit on while waiting.  A person working for the port will take you from there upstairs, thru check in and then thru security.  They will drop you off in another seating area to await a Princess employee to wheel you onto the ship.  We use this for my hubby as he has trouble standing and would never be able to walk the gangway to board.  They will drop you wherever you want once on board.  A tip is always appreciated.  Happy cruising!  I wouldn't wait in the line, just walk up and tell whoever is at the door that you need a wheelchair.

    Thank you so much!

  2. For the first time, I will need to request wheelchair assist for boarding the Discovery Princess at pier 93 in San Pedro.  Does anyone know where I need to go once there?  Is there someone around the luggage drop off area I can ask or do I have to wait until I am inside the terminal?  That pier has a pretty long zigzag queue even before entering the terminal so I am hoping not to have to stand that long.  Thanks!

I did hear about this too, for sure wasn’t the same group of kids

I spoke to the woman.  There was one group of teenagers not allowing people on the elevator.  She took their picture to share with passenger services, not to share online.  She had asked them to move because people were waiting for elevators and they just pushed the door close button.   You are just stirring up trouble where there was none.

To the older lady who was on Deck 6 or 7 around 9:00pm (7/19/23) taking pictures of people’s children in elevators, and then posting those pictures to Facebook, you’re weird and creepy!

It wasn’t me but it was reported that teenagers were laying down in the elevator and refused to move to let people in.  Passenger services sent security to look for them.  There have been some wild teenagers roaming this cruise.  Some thought it was fun to play ding dong ditch and run off laughing.

Thank you for this information. How does the testing work?  They leave a test in your cabin to self test?  Or you line up to get swabbed?   Who do you report the test results to?

I’m not on this cruise but when we were on a cruise that required testing before a port they asked us to be in our cabin at a certain time.  Two people came to the door and, standing in the doorway, swabbed us, then moved on to the next cabin.

    Hi y'all,

I am going to be on the Discovery Princess later this month and saw they have a sports court. It looked like you can play Tennis there. Does anyone happy to know what the process would be to get some Tennis court time reserved?

    Thank you,

    b0nz0

I think that’s for pickleball.  Signups for things like that are in the gym.

Thank you for starting this thread.  I have a considerable amount of casino freeplay on my upcoming sailing.  I play slots.  Does the freeplay stay in a separate "bank"?  Say I download $20, and win on some spins, do the winnings go into a separate "bank"?  In other casinos where I've had freeplay, if I hit something I'd "cash out" those winnings onto a ticket.  The freeplay amount that was downloaded still had to be exhausted on that machine.  Will that still be the case with the Medallion?  I hope this makes sense.

If you win using free play and cash out, the winnings go into your normal casino account.  Then you can collect the winnings at the casino cashier like any other.

  8. I received my FCC within a couple of days of leaving the ship.  My husband received an FCC a couple of weeks later.  He tested negative but was told not to leave our cabin after I was moved to quarantine due to direct exposure.  We were disembarked the next day so he just stayed in and packed.

I’m wondering what Covid treatment people are receiving that requires having their entire medical record from the ship. For most, that would likely be positive test results and a statement regarding the number of days in quarantine. The medical department supplies that at disembarkation.

I tested positive during the first cruise of a scheduled back-to-back.  I did not receive any paperwork from medical when we disembarked after the first cruise.  I filed a claim for the cost of the second cruise with AON.  They wanted proof of the positive test which I didn’t have.  Fortunately my TA was able to get us FCCs instead.  Of course, we also got FCCs for the time in quarantine and eventually received checks from Princess for the balance in our casino accounts and onboard accounts.  People should definitely request a copy of their test results before disembarkation.

Are you seeing that currently? A few of us were wondering what happened to that option a few weeks ago and nobody could find it.

I actually just checked and I didn’t see it.  We have done six cruises since the reopening and I could have sworn I saw that option available but I don’t see it on our upcoming cruises.  Sorry for the misinformation.  I always found that a good way to budget my casino play in the past.

If you put in cash do you still need to tap your medallion and set up an account? Or do you get a ticket for remaining cash to take to another machine or to the cashier?

You always set up your casino account first because the only way to cash out is to your casino account.  You can purchase casino credits ahead of time on Princess’ website.  If you do that you will get cards in your cabin that you take to the cashier for cash to play with.  If you play enough you may get some free play in your next cruise that shows up when you create your casino account.

  12. I tested positive during what was supposed to be back-to-back cruises.  The positive test was on the morning of day 6 of the first cruise.  My husband tested negative and was allowed to stay in our cabin but was told not to leave.  I was moved to a deluxe balcony.  I was lucky in that the following day was turnaround in our home port.  We were disembarked after the ship was cleared. Since we had used a town car service to get to the cruise port, we were taken home (about an hour away) by a medical transport SUV.  I thought it was interesting our driver did not wear a mask for the entire trip even though I was sitting right behind her.  I did get an FCC for one day for the first cruise and one for the entire second cruise.  I also received a check for the balance of my casino account I wasn’t able to cash out.

  13. I can tell you what happened to us when I tested positive during our cruise.  We were supposed to be on two 7 day cruises back to back.  I had a really bad sore throat and tested positive on day 6 of the first cruise.  Hubby tested negative.  I was sent to quarantine.  Hubby stayed in our original cabin with instructions not to leave because of direct exposure so he started packing.  The next day was turnaround day.  We were both eventually escorted off the ship after everyone else disembarked.  We live about an hour from port and had used a car service to get there so we were put in a medical transport SUV and taken home.  People who had flown were taken to hotels.  We both received per diem FCCs for the day I was in quarantine.  The second cruise we had booked was refunded via FCC after my TAs intervention.  Since we weren’t able to cash out our casino accounts, that money was returned to my credit card.  I also had some refundable OBC which was referred to corporate according to the email they sent me.  No word on that yet.

One word of advice.  I was originally told I would have to file a claim with AON for that second cruise but AON required written proof of my positive test while onboard.  I never got one.  So if you do test positive and think you might want to file an insurance claim, make sure to get the written test results.

    Your results may vary!

  14. On the Discovery they brought me more food than I could eat.  They brought me dinner menus from the main dining room and offered to bring me breakfast menus as well but I was given a door hanger the night before and used that.  It wasn’t the hottest meal I have ever gotten but ai did get steak and shrimp along with fettucini Alfredo.

  15. I was on the 3/27 cruise on the Discovery and was supposed to be on the 4/3 cruise but I tested positive on day 6.  Like you, we wore masks when leaving our cabin.  I also feel the mask requirement was lifted too soon.  This was our sixth cruise post Covid and the first where masks weren’t mandatory.

like the other poster, my doctor has recommended I now wait for my second booster because my immune system is the strongest it has been right now.  Hang in there.  Yesterday was day 10 for me and I have now tested negative.  Yah!  Now we just have to wait for the hubby to get over his since I so generously shared it with him.

Nice way to say it all, I agree- masks/ cough.

My mom and her husband board the discovery tomorrow. So are you saying that discovery princess does not require  just recommends masks to be worn inside the ship? I guess I thought a lot of this had changed as of March 1 even though discovery princess didn’t start sailing at that time.

No debates about the mask wearing .I’m just trying to see what’s happening on each ship. Meaning what is  Discovery princess saying you need to do ,not what everyone is doing. I know that you’re supposed to wear a mask on embarkation and disembarkation, I think that’s fleetwide?

They strongly recommend wearing masks except in your cabin, while eating or drinking or outside.  There are signs posted  and notices in the patter.  There are also signs recommending masks in the elevator and keeping it to six people or one sailing “family”.  They are no longer required.  This is our sixth cruise post Covid and the first one where masks are not mandatory so naturally this is the one where I caught Covid.  I don’t buy the “masks don’t work” philosophy some people have.  Every medical expert out there says they reduce your chances of a breakthrough case.  There are too many people getting their medical degree from Facebook recently.
