This has now changed. Thanks to our friend Uncle Ted, we now have a federally subsidized shuttle bus that runs a loop through Girdwood from the Seward Highway to the resort and points in between. The cost is $1 per trip and includes the restaurants on Crow Creek Road like the Double Musky and Maxine's. The Hotel Alyeska still maintains a van service, but no longer runs a shuttle around the village because of the new public transportation system.
This shuttle bus will get me from the train to the resort? I'm planning on taking the early train to Girdwood then hopping the 11:30 to Whittier. As long as there's a reliable shuttle I should be able to make it up in the tram and get back to the RR in plenty of time (I'll have over 3 hours). I was worried when in an earlier thread someone told me my only way there was to arrange for the hotel to get me, since I'm not staying there.
And yes, I know this is an expensive side trip, but I really wanted to check out the resort and go up in the tram. The girl I talked to from the RR thought I was a little crazy too, but she priced it for me.

JerseyJaguar I would love to hear more about the things you did in Seattle pre and post cruise last year, as we have 3 1/2 days to explorer,
I would like to know what you liked, what you would skip or a do not miss thing you did.
I don't want to take up this thread with that info, if you could e-mail me that would be great. autumnsam@aol.com
Thanks
I sent you an email (from aprile) with all the links I think are most important. Seattle's a great city and there's plenty to do there. Just make sure you get to the Market and try the free samples they give out there.
I recommend spending time in Seattle to everyone, I've always been lucky with weather when I've been there, but even if I wasn't, there's lots to do inside if it's raining.

To sell out Open Seating means substantially more than half the passengers preferred Open Seating, far more than could reasonably be accommodated, even with the ability to turn some of those tables three times in an evening.
This is the third time in the past year that this sort of thing has been reported on this board.
This is what confuses me, I was looking at a December cruise and the only thing available is Open Seating, the fixed dining is closed (although they still list both upper and lower even though they list Open separately). So if so many want Open, why isn't fixed available to the rest of us on cruises six months away?
I had late fixed seating on my recent cruise and it looked like all the tables were filled. We also had a few small groups on the ship (80 Aussies, some work-related group, etc) but I don't know if they commandeered any section of either dining area, I think the work group had a dinner together in the Queens Lounge or one of those meeting rooms. Maybe that's the solution for groups that want to all eat at the same time.

I was in fixed late seating for my recent Oosterdam cruise and the room always seemed full, even on Master Chef's night.
I don't know what open seating was like since I didn't pay much attention to it at dinner time. I didn't hear anyone complaining about their dining arrangements though, no matter what they had.

Really? Last year they said their summer tram hours began at 9:30. They don't have the summer schedule posted yet, I just assumed it would be the same.
