  1. Thank you! I did some basic googling, but what I was having trouble figuring out was if these things were available if you just walked off the ship. Some reviews made reference to a ferry, and I just couldn't get a mental image of the layout. Especially since some reviews were complaining about lack of food. I was trying to determine if I had to sign up for something just to get a ferry ride to where there's actually stuff, or we could sign up for nothing, walk off the boat, and still have things to do. It sounds like it's the latter, which is wonderful news. :)

This will be my first time at Harvest Caye so I did lots of searches using Cruise Critic, Google, and YouTube. The ferry is a option yet a bit expensive I read you can buy the ferry tickets on the ship at the excursion desk. The ferry takes you to Placencia a very small town. Someone mentioned it was not worth the trip and prices for food and souvenirs is no better than Harvest Caye. The ferry has specific times to go and return due to limited space. If I were you I’d check out a few YouTube videos it helped me get a good idea of what to expect.

  2. I just returned from our October 2017 cruise. We did this excursion offered through Carnival for Amber Cove. LIFESTYLE SERENITY VIP RESORT GETAWAY it truly was amazing. We were transported to this private resort in a beautiful air conditioned bus. It is within 30 minutes of the port. Once we arrived we were escorted to our area on the beach which had gorgeous white lounge beds, hammocks, beds and chairs. Staff laid out lush white towels as you arrived at your choice of seating. Shade is easily available. Many thatched roof bars steps away serving all inclusive drinks including coffee, alcohol, or whatever your heart desires. Many servers are available to serve you at your chair on the beach if you prefer. Full lunch buffet and made to order crepe bar. Oh don't forget the ceviche hut also. True VIP service. I would highly suggest you bring swim shoes because the ocean is pretty rocky getting in and out. Best excursion of our cruise.

We were just in New Orleans in October 2016 we stayed at the Astor Crown Plaza right in the heart of New Orleans. We loved the location yet I must warn you that Bourbon Street is no place for children. I had been there once before and loved it I couldn't wait to go back. Well I was really shocked to see how bad it is now. So much filth, horrible smell, homeless drunks laying everywhere. I went with my children in their 20's and 30's and they said they will never go back. If you want to walk in that area with your husband I suggest you walk on Royal Street it runs parallel with Bourbon Street one block over. Jackson Square in the evening was pretty scary lots of passed out drunks all around the park. You also need to be very careful walking on those sidewalks and streets. There are huge cracks and missing chunks of sidewalks everywhere.

I can only imagine during Spring Break its going to be really bad. The lines to get into Café Du Monde were crazy long everyday except maybe late at night.

Since you are booked on a cruise just like we were I would suggest you find some things to do away from Bourbon Street like a swamp tour, and the aquarium.

Good luck I don't mean to be the gloom and doom I just want you to be prepared and not surprised.

  4. Many years ago I found this thread and it really changed my cruising experience for the better. Every year I bring my Elemis oil and brush and started early applying my oil and brushing my feet. So September 25th 2016 I headed off on another cruise only this time I didn't remember to follow this procedure. Sure enough my feet started swelling like crazy. I quickly started brushing my feet every time we went into our cabin. Soon no more swelling I seriously don't want that to happen again. For reference I am 59 years old have slight hypertension. I take a diuretic daily. My feet only swell on a cruise, in the past I stopped drinking ship water and avoided all sauces that are usually laden with sodium.

Anyone who has suffered with this condition I highly recommend you give this a try.

  5. I literally just came upon this thread this evening while perusing Cruise Critic. I honestly thought I was pretty much the ONLY PERSON who suffered like crazy with swollen feet, ankles, and lower legs during a cruise. I was so happy to take the time to read through this thread and get some awesome advice! I first noticed my feet swelling when we were on a trip to Australia about 15 years ago. It was so hot and so humid and we did a LOT of walking. It was not a cruise, just a vacation. Then when we fell in love with cruising, I noticed that every single time, yep, those things would swell!! Hubby and I are leaving on a Canada/New England cruise in about 6 weeks and this time I'm going to be prepared! I just purchased the brush, the arnica gel, and compression socks for the flight. I've also got one of those blow up foot rests that I'll finally try. I intend on raising the lower part of the mattress on the cruise ship with something - the life jackets, or towels, or something. I have high hopes that THIS TIME I won't suffer again from swelling feet and ankles. Will keep you posted on how it goes, but I wanted to say a big THANKS for some HOPE and for some methods that have worked for others!

I totally get your excitement I too was desperately searching for help and stumbled on this thread. I've never had any swelling since following this method. Please do let us know when you get back how it worked for you.

  6. Thanks for this post. I know it's an old post, but there is some good information in here. I suffered terribly on our first cruise last year and want to be able to minimize this issue when we cruise again next year. Thank you for these great tips. :)

CruisinJamma the info may be old but it works great I wouldn't go on a cruise without my brush and Arnica Jell. Post how you did using this on a cruise.

  7. They were available for days. If you're wanting them, I don't see how you could have missed this last batch. They usually go within hours. You have to check at least once a day. You would have seen them if you were looking.

As I said before I needed to be sure how long it would take for them to arrive before I completed the purchase. Once I read a few responses from people I went back to complete the purchase and they were gone. I hope you can now see how I missed the last batch :).

  8. I just reserved a hotel room at the Westin New Orleans Canal Place for our September 2016 cruise. I was a bit panicked because many of the hotels near Bourbon Street were already showing sold out and the hotels left were almost $300 a night. I searched on a few well know sites and this hotel popped up with availability at $200 a night. I clicked the link and ended up on a website called Amoma I quickly booked my room and was thrilled to get such a nice hotel. Panic soon set in again when I did my research on this site. Really bad reviews so I quickly called the Westin spoke with the manager and he assured me they were legit. Within 24 hours they had my reservation :D so all is well. I'd hate to see people losing a great opportunity at booking a great rate on a hotel because of all those bad reviews.

  9. I just used Amoma to reserve a room in New Orleans. After booking I did some research and was shocked and scared that I made a mistake. I called the hotel right away the manager confirmed that they are legit and within 24 hours the Westin had my reservation. Hopefully they have mended their ways I was really happy to get this reservation because everything at a reasonable price was already sold out.

  10. My July 2016 cruise doesn't say Coz+ but I noticed that one hour was added recently to the time in port.

How nice I am still holding out hope that mine will change.

    Yvonne
