1. Annette and Tom, wow a waiting list for a cruise? Here's to you being two of the lucky ones. I do believe in the power of positive thoughts! Will Yvonne be joining you? My husband and I have never done a Mediterranean or a TA yet. I so want to to an Eastern Medierranean one day; on my bucket list.

Hope you have fun plans for the weekend!

I wish I could join them Janice only for now this is on my bucket list also. We are both still working full time.

  2. Janice led me over here. Thanks Janice.

If you know anyone from Az who wants to post with us that is great. We even have posters outside Az that post off and on. Everyone is welcome.

We are probably like you all here chit chatting about everything.

    Take care...:)

    Laura

Main Thread is the Sticky one..

Thanks Laura my sister Annette lives in Arizona City I wanted to give her the info. Are you reading this Annette?

  3. Hello Yvonne, this is a response from my friend Emmy! I will ask a few more friends on their thoughts and also feedback on the EPIC too...

Wow Janice thank you so much for passing this on to me. I shall now continue the generosity and pass it on to my sister.

    Yvonne

  4. Yvonne, we have not done either of those...we have good friends considering a TA on Norwegian next year. I thought she said something about the newest ship. We have had friends sail on the Epic and they liked her. Are you considering these for next year? We will see Don & Lita this weekend at the Sunset Celebration; I can ask them if you want.

Janice yes thank you for asking your friends. We love the Sunset Celebration I totally forgot it was this weekend. We are going to spend the weekend in Tiburon just relaxing. Hard to believe we've never been to Angel Island so we will take the ferry over for the day. I booked the segway tour, ever since we did it in Puerto Rico we have wanted to do that again.

As for the TA cruise its my sister who is interested we would never be able to be away from our jobs that long. By the way the price is really good Transatlantic: 11 night, Norwegian Epic, Miami to Barcelona, Apr 20-May 1, 2013. Excellent price on cabin with a balcony $655/pp! Wow, can't beat that! May 1-4, tour Barcelona

Mediterranean: 7 night, Norwegian Epic, May 5-12, Barcelona (Barcelona, Naples, Rome, Florence, Provence, Palma, back to Barcelona). Cabin price $1100/pp.

Carol you really have done a lot of cruising thanks for the feed back. How fun you are going on the Allure. Our next cruise is in October on the Valor, Southern Caribbean-Grand Turk, La Romana, Curacao, & Aruba. Its a 8 day out of Miami. We have a very strong thread for this group. Its a good mix of old cruise friends and new cruise friends. Interesting thing is there is going to be a Elvis impersonator onboard. I guess this is his annual cruise for his fan club. http://michaelhoover.com/carnival-cruise-november-7-2010/

So far it looks like its going to be a sell out cruise.

Well its a amazingly beautiful day here in Northern California I hope you all go out and enjoy the weekend.

  5. Hello everyone I hope you all are doing fine. I have a cruise question have any of you done the Transatlantic: 11 night, Norwegian Epic, Miami to Barcelona then Mediterranean: 7 night, Norwegian Epic, Barcelona (Barcelona, Naples, Rome, Florence, Provence, Palma, back to Barcelona)?

  6. This has been discussed extensively here. HAL has raised the price, as when they are at HMC, the cabanas sell out pretty fast and consistently.

No, it doesn't include a masseuse, and the Butler package is extra.

Play nice Bruce some of us are not on here reading every post every day. :p

  7. Carl, dear Carol is the social butterfly so we need to get her to write us in somewhere. Yvonne are you still sometimes working on a Saturday?

Wow I was just reading back and saw that I missed this post. I actually work every Saturday till 4:30 now. My schedule was so crazy before that I felt having a regular schedule every week would be better. So now I work Tue-Sat, Tue-Fri 7:30-4:00 Sat 8:00-4:30. Being off Mondays has been really nice the stores are dead so I save most my shopping for Mondays. Of course the trade off is that Don and I don't have 2 days off together which is a drag. If you ladies happen to meet a little later in the day let me know and I will be there. :)

Carol I hope your Mom is doing better.

  8. Go Sharks!!!

Yvonne - wow! you just celebrated your birthday and now you will be having a Happy Anniversary tomorrow!!

    Carol

Thank you Carol yes one week before I got married I turned 21. As I type this we are driving to Monterey for the weekend. We have reservations at a French restaurant Bistro Moulin near Cannery Row. Looks like we lucked out with good weather.

    GO SHARKS

  9. My son snagged a few tickets for the game tonight. He was in a meeting at work when the subject came up about which sports you like. He said SHARKS this girl said oh I have season tickets. Then she said I can't go to the game would you be interesting in buying my tickets at face value. Once he picked up his jaw from the floor he said sure where are your seats. She says lower level cost $70  SOLD.

    **GO SHARKS**

  10. Yvonne, how was your penthouse?...forgot to ask! Thanks for sharing your lovely photos.

Janice the condo was so beautiful I was talking to a guy who has a timeshare next door and he said those condos were going for over a million dollars at one time. I really believe it because everything is top of the line inside. The furnishings were also so nice it was hard to believe this was a rental.

Well we have not been to Alcatraz either and we were both born and raised right here in San Jose. I had never really thought about cruising out of SF and being able to go under to GG bridge that does sound amazing.

Carol my sister is really sensative too so I was a little worried.

  11. Janice my sister who lives in Arizona is seriously looking at doing this cruise too. Was it Carol who said she's gotten sick on this route a few times? My sister just asked what the seas are like I'm afraid to tell her that she got sick three times. My sister did well on a recent cruise to the Caribbean and she's done the Alaska cruise a few times. I'm just curious if those are rougher than normal waters between SF and Vancouver?

    Yvonne

Change of plans my sis decided to do this cruise in Sept when they reposition the ship from Vancouver back to SFO. Due to the weather she's hoping for warmer temps then.

  12. Well we are now booked on the Golden Princess for May 20-22. I couldn't believe the great price of $149 pp with a balcony guarantee. The taxes and fees were almost as much as the base price.

I used my Alaska Airlines miles and just paid for the taxes and fees and that was under $100. Our hotel is covered with Hilton Honors points so this should be a relatively inexpensive getaway.

Bernadette, I prefer longer vacations but my employer only gives 2 weeks maximum after 3 years of employment so I need to be somewhat creative.

A bucket list for me is sailing under the Golden Gate so here's to clear weather!

  13. Hi everyone we are back from Kauai. The weather was much cooler than usual only in the mid 70's most the time with some pretty good rain off and on. I didn't mind it though hey we were in paradise. We stayed in Kapaa which is between the airport in Lihue and Princeville. The resort was called Waipouli Beach Resort and Spa it was so beautiful I can't believe what a gorgeous place this was for only $199 a night for a top of the line beach front condo. We went to a few beaches for the day and sights and ate it felt like all day long.

Well I'm back to reality now working away.

Carol that cruise you booked sounds amazing what a great deal. I wish I could pull off one more vacation only between Hawaii and our cruise in October my vacation is tapped.

Janice you too are cruising on Princess out of SF how fun.

  14. Yvonne: all I can say about your day in SF is WOW!!! It is one of my fave cities! I love the view from the Bay Bridge and from the GG, even more fantastic -

That is freaky about your luggages not being unloaded-- so that is the very reason we should all try to get there a day or two earlier than our cruises - didn't know about flying into FT Laud. cuz it's cheaper - will note that.... also about Virgin Airlines - did you have to pay for your check in luggages? When we flew on Hawaiian Air last Jan, they actually weighed our 'hand carries' -- 20# was the limit and they were very strict about it -

they weighed ours but as it got busier, the other Pax's hand carries were not weighed and they didn't get the special little tag that they put on ours - we saw a lot of BIG rolls on's getting on the plane and NOT fitting in the overhead bins without being really squashed in there - not fare - I heard from some of the intern'l flight folks (Luftansa and I think Quantas) that they are also being strict and the limit there is 15# -- geeze... 15# is practically nothing -

glad you posted Yvonne - and have a good time in Kauai - haven't been there in ages - I hope you get perfect weather like we did last Jan.

    Carol

Carol we will need to pay for luggage on our Virgin flight yet the savings were still a lot over SW. That is crazy weighing your carry on I've never seen that done before. We are flying on Alaska direct to Kauai.

Aloha Yvonne! You have been missed! Hasn't our weather been incredible? We really are fortunate to live where we live. Have you made it to any Sharks games this year? I cannot believe how poorly they are doing now...thought it would be one of their best.

Enjoy your visit to Kauai! We are heading to Maui in November for my birthday; managed to use Hilton Honors points for the Grand Wailea.

    HAPPY WEEKEND (almost) everyone!

Hi Janice we never made it to a Sharks game this season. We were at the tank last night to see Jimmy Buffet. You lucky girl going to the Grand Wailea that is the most beautiful hotel I've ever stayed at. Not sure if you remember that our son was married there 2 years ago.

If you've never stayed there before you are in for a great birthday present and using HHpoints what could be better.

Don and I rented a penthouse ocean front condo in Kauai.I was shocked to find it at such a great price $199 a night. Check out the details http://bookings.kauaiexclusive.com/Unit.mvc/Details/50153

Ok time for me to get to what I get paid to do work

    Have a great weekend everyone.

    Yvonne

  15. well, we've only taken one cruise before and we definitely learned some lessons we'll apply to all future cruises. Our first cruise was out of San Pedro and the TA booked us such that we were up at 5am and stopped at Starbucks on our way to SFO for coffee and pastry - bad idea, sugar rush followed by sugar-crash about mid-flight. Once we got past security we weren't really hungry and didn't eat anything more. We weren't served snacks on our SFO to LAX flight and we landed just in time to hop on the Carnival shuttle to the Pier. No time for food or a drink. Then we stood in line at the pier for 4 hours to board. We had just enough time to drop our luggage in our room and grab our life jackets and head to muster. We were absolutely starving and exhausted by the time we crawled into the Lido grill for a burger. I think I did manage to have a drink in my hand on the top deck when we pulled away from the pier. After that first hectic day, it took me a day or 2 to relax before I started enjoying the cruise. Never again!

From now on, we fly the day before and board as early as we can so we can spend the day eating, relaxing, and enjoying ourselves. and new "tradition", I'm starting my cruise off with a couple of cocktails before we even set sail lol

Wow that's what you call a lesson learned the hard way. My name is Yvonne and we live in San Jose. Compared to some of my fellow cruisers I still feel pretty new to cruising yet from our experience we always fly in a day or two early for a few reason. One of the most important is flight delays or luggage problems. Then the other reason is just decompressing from the hustle and bustle of getting there before the cruise begins. Last September we flew into Fort Lauderdale a few days before our cruise. We landed around 4:30 PM. Our cruise was leaving from Port of Miami we just usually find better prices flying into FLL. Well there was a big thunder storm as we landed and as we waited for our luggage we were informed that they could not unload our luggage due to lightning so to come back the next day to get our luggage. Of course there was big drama by all the passengers some getting very angry. We had a shuttle driver waiting for us from SAS transportation he assured us this happens all the time and eventually they will unload our luggage so he said I will wait as long as it takes. That was pretty impressive for the SAS driver to be so cooperative. About a hour later our luggage was unloaded and we were on our way to Miami though we had no idea exactly how long we were going to be waiting which was nerve racking.

This October we are cruising again out of Miami and again flying into Fort Lauderdale. We usually fly on SW except the only flights available arrive after 11:00 PM from San Jose. So we are flying on Virgin Airlines its a direct flight and its a red eye. We leave SFO at 11:30 PM and arrive at 8:30 AM in FLL. Still coming in the day before our cruise. One more interesting thing the Virgin flight was much, much cheaper than SW current prices.

To all my fellow Northern California cruisers I hope you are all doing good. I have not been on in awhile yet try to keep up with what's being posted now and then. We will be taking a vacation to Kauai in two weeks and so looking forward to the break.

We were in San Francisco last Sunday and WOW what amazing weather with temperatures in the 70's. We went directly to Muir Beach and hiked for a few hours on the coastal trail. Then we went to Sausalito for lunch and walked up and down the harbor looking at all the beautiful boats. We ended our day at Rodeo Beach to watch the sunset. As we left Rodeo Beach we took a right and ended up with the most amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge. That was one of the best Northern CA days ever.

    Take care everyone

  16.
I am slightly confused. After reading the entire thread, I see that I can book online, but will I be able to pick a specific cabana when we board? Or will Carnival choose for us? Also, where exactly is the Excursions desk? I have never had to go there on my other cruises.
Yes you will be able to choose a cabin once you board the ship. As soon As you step foot on the ship and they put your sign and sail card in that machine they will direct you to the Excursion desk. Its located right there where you board the ship on the same deck. Just remember other cruisers that also have reserved a cabana and have already boarded the ship ahead of you might have already chosen the cabana you want so make a backup list of cabanas you would like to have.

    Hope this helps
    Yvonne
  17.
We just got back from Half Moon Cay. We were on Carnival Ecstacy. We had fruit, chips and salsa, and veggies and dip. We had 8 cans of pop and 2 bottles of water. We paid $219. We had No. 10 and it was great. We also got 4 sets of snorkeling gear and 4 flotation mats. We were able to choose ours a head of time because my mother was in a wheel chair and we needed to be close to the bathroom. They have wheelchairs there to use with big rubber wheels to go in the sand. My mother really loved it. It is one of my favorite stops.:)
Thank you for sharing your experience especially the use of the wheelchair I'm sure this will help others. :)
  18.
Scenario: 6 cruisers total, myself, my husband and 3 daughters (9, 11 & 15) and 1 friend (15). So from what I have read on this thread, I should not pay for the extra 2 kids? If this is the case its great. My oldest daughter and her friend want to snorkel, neither one have ever done it before, and my younger girls just want to play in the sand. The cabana rental sounds like a win win for me. :)
We were there in Sept and there was 7 of us all adults. We did not pay anything extra because like the last post said we did not want anything extra. We didn't have butler service as some cruise lines offer. We just arrived and our food was in the frig. Never were we all just sitting in the cabana at one time. Especially with the ages of your kids go ahead and have a fabulous time we sure did. :)
