  1. In October we had #3. On this sailing we had #6. It was AWESOME. The water level at #3 is too deep to stand. #6 is chest deep for about 30 yards (at least). And #6 is pretty secluded as well. Loved it! Definitely made up for getting into Labadee late (and all aboard was 4:30).

Are these cabanas on Barefoot Beach or Nellie's Beach?

  2. Meg is a big fan of the Renaissance and the Courtyard Marriott in Elizabeth (not the Newark Airport Courtyard) and she has stayed at the courtyard numbers of times. With a family of 5 and no car, I would highly recommend that you stay on Glimcher Realty Way in Elizabeth in Country Inns, Courtyard Marriott, or Residence Inn. As Njhorseman said, you will have a choice of restaurants and access to the mall. At other hotels you would be limited to the immediate hotel area (no wandering around and no place to go) and a captive of the hotel food service.

Independent Driver is 888-816-0973 - they will provide van service to the port at around $50 for your group of 5.

I think we want to stay at Renaissance or Courtyard Marriott in Elizabeth. Can you tell me if we can walk across the street to the Mall? Is it that close and is it safe? Or will we need transportation?

  3. It's not the only choice, but many cruisers have been happy with the Country Inn and Suites in Elizabeth. It's near an outlet mall and there are a couple of chain restaurants...Ruby Tuesday and IHOP adjacent. They will provide complimentary shuttle service from the airport to the hotel and you can buy reasonably priced group ride transfer service (I think it's $17.50 per person one way) from the hotel to Cape Liberty cruise port. You may be able to save a few dollars on transportation costs to the port by booking a service called Independent Driver. Their number is posted in various places on this board...or perhaps poster 138east will see this and provide the phone number...I believe she has used this service.

What about The Renaissance Newark and The Courtyard Marriott, has anyone used these hotels?

  4. Need some advice... we are a family of 5, need advice. We are cruising on Explore in June and our cruise leaves out of Bayonne on a Thursday, we are flying into Newark arriving 1pm. We need a NICE, CLEAN, SAFE hotel for 1 night pre cruise. we need 2 rooms. And what transportation service do you recommend to the cruise port? Thank you!!!

  5. We have just returned from a cruise where we had 1 1/2 days at Barcelona and took the Half Day Tour on the first afternoon. We were picked up from the Cruise Terminal and taken around in an air-conditioned coach with driver and guide. The tour included all the highlights of Barcelona and we were able to return the next day to visit La Famiglia in more depth (a must). Our tour guide, Kristian, was one of the best tour guides we have experienced, very knowledgeable, very passionate, very well spoken and with a great sense of humour. We only wish we had had more time to spend in this beautiful city and would thoroughly recommend this company, and especially their guide Kristian.

We too are taking a 4 hour tour/pickup from the airport when we arrive in Barcelona pre-cruise. We will have the next day to tour. Did you book you have both days reserved or did you reserve the second day after you got there? Didy ou tour any on your own?

  6. My cruise is soon, less than a month, YEAH! We are staying 1 day pre cruise and will be staying at the Marriott Courtyard Ft Lauderdale. Hopefully we can check in early because our plan arrives at 9:00am. Any ideas at what we can do all day and where to eat?? We don't want to rent a car so hoping there's lots to do within walking distance. Any ideas?

    Thank you!!

  7. We are coming to Fort Lauderdale pre cruise 1 night in December. Our plane arrives around 10am so we will have most of the day and night. Where can we stay close to Port Everglades cruise terminal? Do they have shuttle service from hotel and airport and from hotel to cruise terminal? And what is there to do and where should we eat? Thanks for any help!!!

  8. Just got back from Alaska. We went whale watching with F.I.S.H.E.S in Icy Strait, it was awesome much better than we went 3 years ago in Juneau with RCCL tour of whale watching. F.I.S.H.E.S holds 6 people compared to about 150 to 200 people, need I say more!!!
