  1. I searched for this answer before posting but didn't find anything.

We are traveling on ExOS in June, the group is me, DH, DD, DS and my parents. My kids are each taking a friend, since DDs friend is 23 he isn't an issue but DSs friend is 17 so I need the Consent to Travel letter, my question is do both mine and DHs name and my parents names get listed or just DH and I because they are "technically" traveling with us?

    Thanks!

Forgive me, I'm not clear on why you put "technically" in quotations. Would you please explain (in case that changes the answer)?

Which adult is booked into the 17 year old's cabin? Or is that cabin immediately adjacent/across the hall?

  2. That is why I suggested a 20 gallon clear trashbag. Or you could bring a sandwich baggie, or a lettuce baggie, or a whatever baggie, or all of the forementioned.

Sorry, but this has to rank right up there with the dumbest threads ever on CC.

I read the original post as asking fellow cruisers if they have first hand knowledge of what size the Explorer remotes are. I doubt s/he was asking for snide comments from the peanut gallery.

Anyone who feels this is one of the dumbest threads on CC and can't answer the OP's question, need not reply.

  3. All the jokes about people sanitizing their cabins are not quite as funny after a large noro outbreak. Make fun of those people as much as you want, but just make sure you wash your hands before and after.

    Agreed!

I think bagging the remote is a fabulous idea. It's likely something that doesn't get wiped down between passengers.

LA_CA_GAL...not all remotes are the same size & shape, so trying to fit your home remote is pointless.

  4. I asked a simple direct question regarding the possibility of how passengers could have come in contact with Noro. Perhaps this was spread by the crew, how is this offensive or inaccurate?

Your assumption that crew, because many are from developing nations, do not care if they wash their hands after toileting, is offensive. As Langley Cruisers has pointed out.

  5. How will you watch for the people in the kitchen (food handlers) that use the bathroom and don't wash their hands. How can we assume that this illness was brought onboard by passengers rather than the crew that work behind the scenes in the kitchen? Think about the fact that many of the crew that work on these ships are from 3rd world countries and particularly don't care if they wash there hands after using the restroom.

Really? I find this post offensive.

  6. It was definitely from below the water line...if you know what I mean.

    Gross!

Just spoke to my husband, who's onboard Explorer. They will be docking at 4pm on the 29th. They're letting passengers use free internet tonight, and tomorrow they will be allowed to call home free. He did say that it seems like the crew has mentally checked out tonight, and that things have gone from "surprisingly good, considering" to "it's very obvious NO ONE is enjoying this".

I wonder: if RCL fully refunds passengers (which I suspect they will), will the crew receive their standard tips? If crew members don't receive tips for this 10 day cruise, after likely having added cleaning duties, I certainly couldn't blame them for mentally checking out.

  7. Yes, I know another question. No judgement please lol DH and I are Emerald and we want to use our coupons in the booklet for our drinks the first night (the BOGO and the 10% off or whatever it is) then buy the drink package the second day. Is this possible? Do they allow you to buy the unlimited package on day 2?

As long as there are at least 4 days remaining in your sailing, yes.

  8. Wow, I'm surprised to hear that CruiseCare (what RCL pushes) covers only $10,000 in medical and $25,00 evacuation. While I don't have firsthand knowledge, my guess is you could sneeze and surpass those limits.

Based on widespread advice (here on CC & from my travel agent) I've always purchased travel insurance separately. The past several times, I've used the first link Clarea listed above and called their 1-800 number to discuss my specific needs with a person.

I agree with the advice to call your own medical insurance stateside first. You may have coverage outside of the US and not know it.

For example, my US health insurance covers 90% of costs incurred for emergency medical treatment abroad. I would be responsible for (and should have trip insurance to cover) the other 10%. Even knowing that, I personally wouldn't bother buying a travel plan that has a $10,000 medical limit. I can self-insure $10,000. What I can't self insure would be catastrophic illness or evacuation. I choose limits closer to $250,000 medical and $50,000+ evacuation.

I'm sure many people look at insurance differently, and buy coverage for more likely events (minor illness/injury) than catastrophic illness. Perhaps $10,000 coverage sounds like a lot to some people. It's all in your perspective I suppose.

  9. I would tell the teacher ahead of time. The teacher could print out the work for her on paper and then she could do the work on the ship (or better yet, do it all at once before the cruise!)

I agree, that would be easiest & most economical for us. I do plan to email the teachers beforehand, and let them know. However, the teachers are under no obligation to have the work ready for us ahead of time. These are 2 days of unexcused absence. (Thurs & Friday before spring break week.)

  10. Sorry to hijack, but instead of starting a different thread....

What is the best way to access the internet on the Explorer? My daughter is missing 2 days of school for our 9 day cruise over spring break, and will likely have to check-in with her teachers or homework buddy. Then possibly use the internet to do her homework depending on the assignment.

She has a chrome book in case that matters.

    TIA

  11. In my experience, there have been cruises where I DID hear the neighbors, and cruises where I did not.

It may be more a function of WHO is next door rather than the connecting door.

    :)

^this. Cabins have thin walls and are by no means soundproof. I don't know that a connecting door makes much difference either way.
