I'm going to just miss you, action1776. I'll be on the Breakaway on April 15, 2018. Transatlantic. Please take care of her for me.

We'll be cruising to Alaska this July:
Juneau- pilot's choice helicopter tour. It was cancelled last time we were in Alaska so we're hoping for the best.
Skagway- zip line. Then shopping
Ketchikan- rented a boat for salmon fishing. On our own, not through the ship. We wanted to rent the whole boat.
Victoria- Butchart gardens. My husband thinks he'll dislike this and he says he's only doing it for me but I know he'll enjoy it.

On the quirkier side, there is a game museum, Musee Mechanique, that is awesome. I'm sure I spelled it wrong and if I were less lazy I would look up the correct spelling, but my adult daughter and I spent about 1.5 hours there and I could have easily spent half a day there. Its on the wharf pier.

we had an OS on the Pearl. I didn't find the wind to be too bad

When I was five I was on a transatlantic in steerage with my dad. People joke about steerage but we really were. Our cabin had several bunk beds and we shared it with strangers. No bathroom in the room.
So my dad was sick in bed the whole way and he let me roam unattended. He wasn't very attentive of a parent under the best of circumstances : ) There was no kid's camp so I was just alone. So I made friends with an older child who delighted in taunting me with threatening to sink the ship by turning one of the large valves on deck. I didn't know any better, lol
This was in 1965.

IMHO this "stickie", with over 4K posts, is TMI.
Exactly. It needs to be deleted and a new one started.

It was about a year ago that I booked

I have a Free at Sea dining package for my Alaska trip but nowhere on my vacation summary can I figure out how many meals it covers. I looked at a lot of the fine print with no luck. Any ideas?

I, too, hope this works out for you. Never hurts to try

7/2 for us. Can't wait. This will be our 4th Pearl cruise

My husband just hit 4 months of sobriety. We have the UBP and I was just thinking we'd keep it as it will allow us to have unlimited nonalcoholic beverages. But reading this makes me think about switching it out as well. Congrats on your sobriety!

Unpeeled grapes? how uncouth
The last Haven I was in was in 2012 and the hairdryer was not affixed to the wall. But it was heavy. High quality, but heavy. Like heft was a consideration during the hair dryer selection phase of ship planning.

Alaska in July and a transatlantic April 2018

I was sitting at a window seat on the Pearl enjoying my book with my darling husband by my side. I was barefoot and a lady passing by remarked that I have pretty feet. Well, other than my pink pedicure my feet were anything but cute. They are size eleven. I'd provide a pic but I don't want to break the internet. Anyway, I will always remember her and the pure joy of just relaxing by that window.
We started off that cruise with my husband being surprised to learn that I had booked a suite. We were at the terminal before we boarded and he was dazed and confused as we were ushered to the priority suite line. I have not been able to get him to agree to a non-suite ever since. So we don't cruise very often but we have enjoyed every one

I just booked a transatlantic on the Breakaway yesterday. It's our first time on that ship and I had reservations so it's good to hear all the positives and not so positives about the ship. Given that I have thoroughly enjoyed every cruise we have taken I'm thinking we will have a great time. I had originally booked a TA cruise on the Jade, but I think that a larger ship will give us more to do during the many sea days

(The Breakaway suite is also aft)

I'd like to do a translatlantic cruise with my spouse next year. We've only sailed on the Pearl and have really enjoyed our cruises. But I don't think I'm strictly a small-ship girl. So I've made two reservations. One on the Jade in a 9th deck aft suite. The other on the Breakaway, room 11908. It's an H7 suite that I booked on impulse because it looks huge. I like both itineraries (New York- London). I'd appreciate any thoughts.

I was in 10666 a few years ago and we will be in 10664 in July. I struggled initially with which suite to choose, but then I tend to overthink things. They are amazing suites and you can't go wrong with either. I'm sure someone here can chime in about how one is 1.84 sq larger than the other, but any difference is certainly minimal. Enjoy your cruise!

Who decides if something is reasonable or unnecessarily harsh? MJSailors just had an opinion and expressed it. The post even had "IMHO" (in my humble opinion). Your opinion was different.
As for being "tacky", I don't think that it is. I'm not defending the opinion, I'm defending the right to express the opinion.
Yes, TWO, we all have a right to our opinions. Let's leave it at that :)

Yes, I was thinking the same thing myself; I eat cold food out of the fridge all the time. I would also agree that I would be less inclined to take carry-out on a ship than I would at home.
-
Isn't referring to someone as judgmental also judgmental?
We all make judgments throughout our day, it's human nature. Sometimes those judgments are reasonable and sometimes those judgments are unnecessarily harsh. Why is someone tacky because they choose to take with them the food they paid for? I don't understand that thinking. Let's discuss :)
-
I am not sure how to say this, but IMHO,taking food from a restaurant in carry out boxes seems a bit....how should I say this ....tacky.
You sound .... how shall I say this ... judgmental. I take carry out boxes all the time. Restaurant portions tend to be huge and I don't like to waste food.

I have a question about the Suite Selection letter I received by email. Should I make the selections I want and FAX it back, or just let the butler know our preference when we get on board? And I called to ask about having a bucket of beer in the room and the person at the concierge desk wasn't sure if they could do that and that they would call me back, but they never did. It's not that big of a deal, but my husband would be tickled to see that there, waiting for him

Gotham its is. Thanks!
TV channels available?
in Norwegian Cruise Line

when I was stationed in Japan in the 90's the TV network we had available to us was called FEN. I don't know what that stands for but everyone called it Forced Entertainment Network. Reruns of Gilligan's Island and shows of that ilk. Memories
