  1. We had a slot pull on the Golden and our group loaded the entire pool amount into one machine and we pulled until that sum was exhausted. We never touched the credits, which were cashed out and everyone ended up with a dollar in the end. It was fun but went very very fast. We all just stared at each other like "is that it" and went our separate ways. Since that is a real possibility, maybe make some kind of a progressive reinvest with some/all winnings into a larger possible payout on a different machine (within reason of course) and make the slot pull last more than 5 minutes. just a thought!

I was on one cruise where we "donated" $9.00, and after we did our 3 pulls, we had doubled our money.

So we cashed out our $18 and that was that.

On other cruises, we have basically played it by ear.

On Golden, we started a slot pull on the way to Hawaii. We did pretty well and had so much fun, we decided to stop there (after over 2 hours of play!) and continue on a sea day back.

We eventually lost it all, but that was OK, because we were all having such a great time.

Last time on Sapphire, the money was gone after about 45 minutes....:(

I have never notified a casino manager that we are coming. We just show up en masse, and let someone who is lucky or has a "feeling", pick a machine.

I like to get ones that offer other options to win as well....Like Wheel of Fortune, for example.

Are you going to join us on the slot pull for our roll call?

    Let me know...:)

  2. What do people do to get over the post-cruise let down?

    Book another one!! ASAP!

Exactly. We are now "throwing in" the Coastal cruises and the Mexico cruises on the Sapphire in between the real biggies. It tides us over well! :D

    Katherine

    Yep....

Boy, are we addicted to this or what????

O.T.....Our boss decided to paint our break room. Or, rather, have it painted. One of my co-workers is an artist, and is painting a mural on one wall.

It has the beginnings of palm trees, a hammock and an ocean.

I told him I wanted a CRUISE SHIP painted...RIGHT THERE!

And someone joked that he should paint me on it making a gesture to all my colleagues.........:D....waving, of course!

    I have a reputation............for cruising, that is!;)

  3. Wow, I just found your review and can't thank you enough for the time and energy you put into it. I think Princess should hire you because you are doing the BEST sales-pitch for them ever! After DH and I just read this review, we booked the Golden for April 2013! I cannot wait to read about the rest of your cruise.

    Katherine

    Kath, how about April 2012??

Oh, and Your Majesty ;), I am anxiously awaiting more!!!!:D

  4. Thanks! There are plently of spaces for the food- it all fits in there! Yum!

Have a great time on your reunion cruise! Are you going back to Hawaii?

I don't know WHERE you put it!!! I think I gained 5 lbs. just by looking at your pictures!!!:D:D:D

Yes, we are going back to Hawaii again. In the meantime, I have a Mexican Riviera, Pacific Coastal AND a Panama Canal cruise planned.

I can't stay home too much.

  5. I, too, am enjoying this review.

I check back often to see your newest installments!

I did this cruise last April, met a lot of great friends from here on CC.

We got along so well that we are planning a reunion cruise for next April!

    Now I can hardly wait.

My only question to you is: Where the heck are you putting all that FOOD???:D

OH, and a PS to Jan, jrobinso, maybe you SHOULD reconsider....;)

  6. Ship - Mariner of the Seas

    Deck -9

    Stateroom # - 9318

    Stateroom Category Junior Suite

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Yes. (Although you can occasionally hear the scraping of dining chairs from the OS above.) :D;)

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? No

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. - Center hump balcony, great views from all angles.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? Normal size for JS

    Was wind a problem? No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin?None

Any other comments? This cabin is huge, I think it's even larger than other Junior Suites. It has tons of storage space, a walk-in closet, and a bathtub.

If it means anything, I have scored this cabin three times out of my four times on Mariner.

The other time I was in an OS...1314.

  7. Thanks for the post! WWWOOOOOOWWW! We just did the same thing! 9318 it is!!!! Let us know how it went. Thanks

    Happy Sailing

    Earl

I have stayed in 9318 twice now. It is a great JS, center hump.

I did once hear noise from the OS directly above. The dining table is on a marble floor directly above 9318. On one occasion, the occupants were busy moving the chairs around and they were scraping the floor.

I have stayed in that OS as well, so I know how the chairs can scrape on the tile. I was always careful to lift them when I had to move them.

That was only one time. I am just telling you that in case you have upstairs neighbors who are inconsiderate of the noise.

It sure beats the heck out of a piano going all night. Or Windjammer carts rolling above your head at 5 AM. BTDT.

You will love 9318. Take care of it, for I hope to someday again stay in it.:)

And Happy Sailing to you, as well!

  8. This is Barbara

C & A presents them at 30, 40, 50 etc. I have three extra ones from Vision of the

Seas if anyone wants one. Just pay the postage on it.

Barbara, I would LOVE a Vision ship!

My trip on Vision last December was the one you and Dennis were supposed to be on. I remember our Roll Call made you honorary cruisers.

I will have to find a way to get in touch with you.........:)

  9. My son "needed" a straightening iron, because his hair curled up in the ocean air, and DH is into Hot Wheels........so, yeah, we made the trek to Wal Mart...but just because it was there.

Had it been any other retail establishment, we would have gone there. I do not normally shop at Wal Mart. I have my reasons....

  10. I hope you enjoyed the photographs. If you've already been on the Mariner, I hope it brought back pleasant memories. If you will soon be sailing on the Mariner, I hope these pictures add to your anticipation.

Totally enjoyed the pictures. It brought back pleasant memories AND adds to my anticipation. C'mon January!!

Thank you for an awesome pictorial. Now I have to go back and see what I missed....

  11. I have been to Mazatlan twice. Once on the Carnival Pride and once on the Mariner OTS. Both times the ship docked with the port (left) side next to the dock.

I have been to PV four times (Carnival Pride, NCL Star, NCL Jade & Mariner OTS). Every time the ship docked with the port side next to the dock EXCEPT the Mariner OTS, which docked with the starboard (right) side next to the dock. HOWEVER, when we left, instead of backing out of the port the Mariner spun inside the harbor. I believe it was a test to see if it could be safely done. I would not be surprised to see the Mariner docked with the port side next to the dock as that allows it to pull straight out, which will be helpfull in the winter when it will be dark when it pulls out.

Thanks for that. The two times I have been to Mazatlan, the ships docked starboard side to the port. They would make a 180° in the harbor.

In PV, the ships would pull into the harbor, spin around and back up, port side to port.

I will be on the starboard side....wonder if I will get a view of PV, or Wal-Mart:eek::D

  12. First, I have to say you take the most amazing photos! I really enjoy looking at your pictures, not just on this thread, but on others you have posted.

    (Aren't Mazatlan sunsets the best!?)

Second, I have kind of an odd question, but DH wanted to know: On what side does Mariner dock in PV? And for that matter, Mazatlan?

I have seen pictures of her docked differently than other ships I have been on.

    Just wondering............

  13. How is it that I have not discovered you before???

I usually only read reviews of ships that I have sailed on or have booked. Your title caught my eye, and I must say that I have never laughed so hard in my life.

I even sat here through 5 cups of coffee.....(note to self: do NOT imbibe liquids while reading a SailorJack novel...er...review) and read ALL your past reviews.

    You need to publish these...

  14. We really like the 24 series of JS. 9624 and 9324. 96 is the side with the RS, but is just 1 cabin back with a JS above it. Sure you'll have the slant of the hump, but being in the outer one we have never found it bad and also get less wind that way.

Not that I want you booking my room :D:D:D, but its a good idea I don't mind sharing.

Thanks, I will look to see what is available.......sheesh! Who would have thought that booking a particular cabin would entail so much research?

Since I am getting a center hump this time, 9318, I thought it would be nice to try the other side next time. Finding it available, I grabbed it. What good fortune!! HA.......

Being back one cabin, do you still have the great view you'd have in the center?

    Decisions, decisions..........

  15. 9618?? never again! it depends on who has that cabin and what they are doing.....we'll never book it again...and some of my roll call pals who had it on 2 future cruises changed it to the one they had at the end of the hump. we tried earplugs...they didn't help.

i will say that at least in the JS under the WJ we had, the noise wasn't constant...it was like rolling carts at weird times of day...and the deck chair noise WAS around 4-5 in the AM but we didn't hear that every day.

out of 8 cruises we've heard noise on 3 of them from above and 1 from below (that was an aft JS on enchantment that was over the karaoke bar!)

Yep, that's the one. I have 9318 next month, but it was not available in Jan. If I wind up staying there, I hope I have considerate neighbors. However, I will keep checking around and see if I can't move it...or change the date. I still have time.

The GS I had on Vision was under the Windjammer. I only heard the carts rolling very early on two mornings. I must have been sleeping well those other days:D. I never heard any foot traffic during the day, so it was pretty quiet most of the time.

Just wondering..........maybe a piano is a nice touch, but does one REALLY NEED it????

  16. Yikes......and on voyager class ships, don't book the cabins UNDER the royal suite due to the marble floor in there, the piano that can be loud and the stereo.....(if you aren't a light sleeper it might be ok, or if you aren't a big cabin dweller. I am NOT a light sleeper and it was a MAJOR issue!)

AWWW, great....... I booked a JS under the RS (hump was available) for January. Gotta think about this one..........
