  1. Discovery Cove in Orlando is amazing... more because it's a full day deal -= the bird aviary and the snorkeling thing is fabulous (almost more so than the dolphins).

But to answer your question, we did the dolphin swim on our own in Cozumel. Super easy and we had a great experience. Here's the tour we did:

  2. Thanks! This was my assumption given the different times folks would eat. FYI - They do serve this on Carnival (at least as of a year ago when we were on them last), but no presentation... just on the menu. I personally don't see what the big deal is, but they really miss seeing it.

    thanks again.

  3. Thanks everyone for the very helpful advice! Based on the consistent feedback, we will definitely make St. Thomas (or St. John) our snorkel day. Now, just have to figure out where to go and/or what tour to book. :D

Still am considering whether we do something low key so that DS can join us, but he's scared to do anything more than waist deep (even though he can swim fine being from AZ! ;)) and DH and I want to get out a bit more from shore. Could certainly adjust that, but I'm thinking DH and I will be happy to have the grown up time and DS will have more fun doing something fun with grandma/grandpa - since they don't really care to do anything in port having done this itinerary over 10 times already. (Crazy!) Will talk to DS again and get his input - it's his vacation too!

    Thanks again!!!!

  4. They are sharing our 2 bedroom suite. DS will be on sofa bed in living room. I think now with some planning and review of more info, we feel more comfortable with the options. Thanks to everyone for posts and helpful tips as I've asked a million questions!

  5. Hi there - posting this is St. Thomas and St. Martin threads. I want to have a family beach day either in St. Thomas or St. Marting with DH and DS. Then, on the other day, DH and I want to go out snorkeling with DS staying on ship with grandparents. I am considering Capt Bob in St. Martin, which would leave the beach day for St. Thomas. (Perhaps Megans Bay?) But have not yet made up my mind.

If you've been to both locations, where would you choose to have your beach day with the family - and where would you choose to do the snorkeling? (Recommend tour if you have one).

We aren't serious snorkelers but enjoy it - and I might have a drink but we're not big drinkers. We are fine doing our own thing (non ship).

    Thoughts?

  7. Az girl here but grew up near Orlando. Kennedy space center is a must. Other things depending on budget - discovery cove has been one of our favorite fam thing to date but expensive. Beaches are way better than west coast IMO so worth an extra day. Although if you have beach day on cruise I would pass unless you want the healer option. Obviously, there is wdw - no way would we go to Orlando and not spend a couple of days there. Way different than dL in cal. So hard to choose

  8. Ditto on Maclaren stroller! WE bought ours especially for cruising and I've never regretted it. Reclining was a must for us as well as having good shade and small storage under seat. Worked great on all terrains as well, but was still lightweight and narrow.

  9. Yes, fill out the allergy form - we had no issues. If you choose to have your kids eat with their friends at camp (at buffet at assigned times at dinner), you will know ahead of time what the menu is - listed on daily itinerary. You can easily skip those meals that might prove problematic for your kids and they will certainly watch for allergy issues during any other food-related things.

  10. Hi there,

We are cruising out of Miami port and flying in/out of FLL. On our return, we're renting a car and will have 4-6 hours (flight leaves at 5:30 pm) of time to fill.

I'm working my way through the FLL posts, but anyone have ideas for things we can do inexpensively to fill the time? Either in Miami or Ft. Lauderdale?

It will be me and DH, plus our son (7) and my in laws. They are mobile, but aren't going to be up for anything too physical.

    Thanks!

  11. I realize this is way subjective, but is the Illusionarium something that's a "must see" (or really strong "should see")? I've done some searches and most reviews seem to focus on food... ignoring that, is the show good and worth the time/extra $ in your opinion?

If so... is this something that would be age appropriate for DS who is 7?

I know there is TONS to do on this ship, so want to prioritize our top picks for now - especially when making pre-reservations.

  12. Exactly my point... I didn't think it sounded practical, but really wasn't sure what made sense given I was still figuring out basic details on what decks everything is on and certainly was not aware of the behind the scenes stuff like shared kitchens or not. I so appreciate being able to pose a question and get great advice from folks in the know. Based on responses, this is not something we are likely to consider even requesting at this point (certainly don't need it THAT bad)... although, even if we were considering, this would be something pre-arranged with butler ahead of time so shouldn't impact other diners' experience.khaide612 user_online.gif
