  1. We will be in San Juan from 7 am to 2 pm. Anyone out there who can recommend a tour group that can get us to El Yunque? I'm trying to avoid doing it thru Carnival, but I will if there isn't any other way.

  2. We will be on the Fantasy in April, and I was thinking of taking my older nephew on the Behind the Fun Tour, because I think he would really enjoy it. To do this, we would have to drop his younger brother off at Camp Carnival fairly early. Anyone know what time they generally open on Sea Days?

  3. I've got almost a year before I get to see the Conquest, so I am super thankful for everyone who posts a review from her!

It's funny that you mention Epic Rock, and how it is so popular. Last year, a few of us took a pre-cruise cruise on the Imagination and absolutely LOVED IT!!! When we met the rest of our crew, we all raved about how great it was, and ALL of us trooped into the theater to see it on the Breeze. Let me tell you, it was HORRIBLE!!! We actually all got up and walked out. I hope it is just as good as I remember it was on board the Conquest!

  4. I'm enjoying reading this review, especially as I have a surprise cruise coming up in April. Luckily for me, it's with my nephews, so I can keep it secret a lot easier! We're taking the train to Charleston, and I'm telling them simply that we are heading to the beach, which we technically will be in Nassau and Freeport. Keep up the good work with the review!

And kudos for being a foster/adoptive parent. I have a good friend who has 2 fostered-to-adopted kids. I'm in the dog adoption business, but I know there are so many kids out there that need homes too.
  5. I will be cruising in April, but I would like to get my nephews Carnival lanyards as a Christmas stocking stuffer. Is there anyone out there willing to purchase two for me and ship them here? Of course I'll pay all fees. I'm looking for the flat nylon type, not the one made with crystals or anything like that. Also hoping for one red, one blue so there is no fighting. If anyone is willing, please let me know so we can come to an agreement on funds. Thanks!

  6. Carmel, I've been in your position, and there really isn't much worse. Even getting a crappy diagnoses is better than the waiting, because once you have the results in hand, at least you know your next move. I hope you get your results soon, and meanwhile I will send some healing thoughts your way. I cant help you out with any Fantasy stories, since I'll be on her for the first time just a short time before you.

  7. Thanks again Chucktown. My email is my user name here at gmail. I know the mods get testy when you try and post a whole e-mail address.

Now can you tell me which hotels are closest to the cruiseport? FL seems to have a whole lot more info readily avaialble to poor schlubs like me with no clue about the area. :D

  8. Thanks everyone. It was my thinking as well that on a bigger ship, he might not like the tour quite as much. I know when we were on the Glory I mentioned to him that you could see some of the stuff, like the garbage room, and the navigation, and that sort of stuff, and he said that sounded like a lot of fun. I'm sure touring the stage area won't be his favorite part, but I think we will try doing it. If he hates it, it's only $55 and 2 1/2 hours of his time. LOL.

And thanks for the help with the camera situation. I'll be happy to let the security dude tote my camera around just so I don't have to go fetch from the cabin. :p

  9. My nephew is pretty interested in ships and anything with an engine. This will be his second cruise, this time with his 5 y/o brother. I was debating taking him on the Behind the Fun tour as a "grown up" thing, leaving his brother at Camp for a few hours. Has anyone else done this with a younger kid? Did they enjoy it, or would they rather have been at the pool? I've done it on the Miracle and the Freedom, and had a blast both times. I'd like to see the smaller ships and see how they compare.

Also, I know there are no cameras allowed. If my camera was in my pocket for the entire time, with no intention whatsoever of taking it out, would they allow that? Or will the guard take it away and carry it? Honestly, that doesn't bother me, I just hate the idea of leaving it in my room and missing any potential picture opportunities before or after the tour. Mostly because by the last sea day, I imagine I'll be too damn tired to walk to the cabin if I don't have to. Thanks!

  10. The Amtrak station is located in the City of North Charleston. The cruise port is located in the City of Charleston. There is no coordinated municipality taxi fares. There is a City of Charleston taxi ordinance that sets the rates and metering. So if you begin in downtown Charleston, the rates are regulated. Start outside the city of Charleston and they're not.

OP: My DW and I use a guy who's the president of the Airport Limo/taxi association for his personal service. Each member is an independent operator. I was out of town and he picked up my DW at 5:30am at our house for her trip. She highly recommends him. If you ask, I'll supply his contact info. His name is Rubin Nelson.

I swear I didn't touch your cheese, but I'd love to have the contact info for this person. Thanks.

  11. I'm doing a cruise in April with my nephews. I am assuming they will enjoy Camp as much as everyone says they will. If you just drop a tip off there, does it get split among all the counselors? I seem to remember there being several there at all times the last time I did a cruise with just one nephew.

  12. Looks like we'll be taking the train into Charleston in April. Our train gets in at the buttcrack of dawn, and is about 10 miles from the cruiseport. A taxi to go that distance is going to be CRAZY. Any one with suggestions on how to get ther cheaper, or things to do to kill some time? There will be 3 of us, including a sleepy 5 and 11 year old. Thanks in advance!

  13. Thanks! I was worried about waiting until we got there, as it would be during a Spring Break week (here in the North, anyway). I also like to have plans set in stone before doing anything, especially taking along a couple of kids.

  14. I found their info another place, resorts for a day. I was there in 2010 and really enjoyed it. It looks like it could work well for myself ($60, $40 food credit), and 11 y/0 ($30, $20 food credit) and a 5 year old (free). Is there a way to contact them directly? I tried the CONTACT US e-mail a few days ago, but haven't had any response.

  15. I work for a municipality, and we are not allowed to submit vacation requests until the month before the requested vacation. I usually book out about a year. Luckily, my department is only 2 people, so I just make sure my partner knows when I'm planning, and he schedules some other time. Many companies are cutting back on time off, and restructuring existing policies to make themselves more profitable. Sadly, it does affect the employees hard. It's too bad the OP couldn't have traveled solo (which they state they prefer anyway), or found another friend to cruise with.

  16. I probably should have been more specific when I responded. We LOVE the water. They weren't into the slides. That's why I figured Atlantis wouldn't be worth the money. I priced a room at Comfort Inn, which shares space, and it was over $400. Thru the cruise line is about $500. Your way is just over $300, but I know they also limit the number of day passes, and we are going during Spring Break week (up north anyway). We're definitely going to hit a beach, I just wasn't sure which ones would be better for kids. Thanks for the help!
