how many customers are you talking about? In what grade were they booked on? When did they get notified ?

I couldn’t find any reports on various pages online.

This has to be the reason why the availability suddenly disappeared on various voyages about 2 weeks ago until mid-august

I don’t know how many are impacted. I asked about decks/grades etc the only one who answered said ocean view. They got emails today.

  2. It seems that several people are posting on social media that due to staffing issues caused by Covid (short of crew) the QV is reducing capacity for the next few sailings. Therefore some people have had their cruise cancelled. The offer is 100% refund and fcc for 25%.

There was a sail away party from the Retraet Sun deck ( There was also a Concierge Sail away on the Helipad). It was a bit grey but we stayed for half an hour or so. With cocktails and blankets we were quite comfee😎

Bye bye Norway... well until October any way . We are on The Queen Victoria for a slightly longer cruise to the Northern lights then . We're in a Q2 so the Cunard equivalent of a Royal suite  so I will have to post a comparison. Not sure whether here or on the Cunard boards?

We love Cunard but do miss the all inclusive drinks. When paying for the package separately it seems expensive psychologically.

Costco also has scones.  They're so overloaded with sugar that I couldn't imagine putting jam on them.  However, I did smear just a small pat of Kerry Gold Irish Butter (also purchased at Costco) to tone down the sweetness.  I probably committed some culinary sin (like ordering a corned beef sandwich and a glass of milk in a NY Deli) but I'm a total novice.

I have done a bit of research as to why clotted cream is not available in America. At first glance it seems to be to do with pasteurized and not but then after further investigation it is to do with temperatures. It seems what the Uk consider pasteurized the US don’t.

  5. I’m so pleased you are having such a good time, especially when you consider the alternative stuck in the bowels of the ship. I’m trying to make the most of our missed maiden on Beyond by having drinks in the garden but it’s just not the same!

As a matter of interest with both your’s and Iain’s symptoms being extremely mild would you have thought you needed to call medical on board to get tested?

My SIL doesn’t drink alcohol.  Three of us ordered one of their concoctions and she asked for a Diet Coke.  They said they didn’t have it.  We left and never returned.  I’m sure they could have gotten one from somewhere ….  They directed us to go to Al Bacio to check.

In their defence if they did that for you they would have to do that for everyone. The drinks at wcb are time consuming to make and if they had to keep wandering off to get other stuff it would affect the service. I’ve seen how busy it can get when the theatre kicks out and guests start asking for  beers etc they would have  a never ending job. It is a specialist bar after all.

I only have issue with this statement.  People know what the stakes are and the rules when they board.  Ridiculous to some, but still the stated rules and obligations.  So it cannot be "against their will".

I think the issue that has most recently come to light is that there is no corporate policy (confirmed by JetBlue from his communication from corporate). Each ship is free to make its own isolation/quarantine decisions. Therefore some ships are allowing balcony/infinite and some are deck 3 OV and some staying in original cabin.

I think if there was a clear policy then you could book knowing what risk you are taking but at the moment that is not the case and understandably, I feel, some people aren’t happy to take that gamble.

If I paid to have a balcony with a verandah then learned someone with COVID was out on a nearby

balcony getting fresh air I would be very angry and concerned.   My right to disease free fresh air has now been violated.    I am all for isolation to keep the COVID virus from spreading.   If virus positive passengers are put into a balcony I would hope it is isolated down wind from healthy passengers.

Some cruise lines have an isolation deck of balconies.

    Correct.
But it does have a semi window which allows air to come inside, which is better for the whole ventilation thing.
According to the Science, fresh air is beneficial to people who are dealing with Covid.
We had not realized the psychological impact of the forced lockdown.

I believe as a boss you shouldn’t expect your staff to do something you can’t or won’t do yourself. I feel it is the same with fare paying passengers. Perhaps if they confined Lisa Lutoff -perlo to a window cabin for 10 days, with up to 3 hour waits for sometimes cold food, then things might change.

    Oh, totally agree.
I have the antigen tests as well. That is how we determined that we needed to contact medical.
I am testing myself every morning before going down to be tested. I figure that I can at least get a head start  on the packing.
As I mentioned above, we have not had any information for next steps.
Praying for you that you get home with few obstacles.

*** as an aside, I cannot eat anywhere but in my room .
I called for room service as I have not eaten yet today.
I would be happy to go upstairs and get my own food but am not permitted to do so.
I ordered their soup of the day and chicken skewers.
I was told 40 minutes. I have no other option. *****

I’m surprised they don’t let you collect stuff from the buffet to bring back. If you’re allowed out with a mask I don’t understand why they can’t let you collect food. Are there any passengers on board who could bring you stuff.

    It sure is.

My wife was ill in an LA hotel and I phoned Reception to see about getting a doctor.

Put the phone down, turned around and my wife has collapsed on the bed.

Phoned Reception, forget the doctor we need an ambulance.

10 minutes later knock at the room door which I open to find 3 Firemen.

Me: "please don't tell me the hotel is on fire."

Fireman: " no sir we are the First Responders and if it's necessary we call the Ambulance.

    Me " great"

F: "will you get your wife's passport, insurance docs, meds etc ready"

M: "All here ready" then nothing. I have also collapsed.

Next thing I know I am in an ambulance going goodness knows where, turns out to be the Marina del Rae hospital, and as I am unloaded on a gurney outside my wife is being unloaded from a second ambulance.

We are now out in the street on 2 Gurney's and a lady  holding a clip board asks the following:

L: do you both have medical insurance"

    M: yes - box ticked.

L: do you have the policy with you.

    M: yes - box ticked

L: does your insurance company have an office in the USA.

M: I have no idea, what difference does it make - Clip board lady is not happy.

L: we only bill in the US if your insurance company doesn't have an office here I need proof that you have a means of paying. I will allow you one free phone call to find out.

At that point I was wheeled inside (my wife was left outside on her gurney) to a phone on the wall. I called the insurance company who confirmed that they did have a US Office.

Lady with the clip board ticked the last box and we were then both admitted.

Turns out we both had food poisoning, we were discharged 2 days later, total hospital bill 💲15,000.

This all started on day 2 of a 90 day trip.

Scary. What would have happened if you were both unconscious?

Last night I made two sidecars to have with our shrimp plate while we dressed for dinner and watched the sun over the sea. Mine with a sugared rim and my Gastrgnomes without

Then off to the retreat lounge for a drink before dinner. Ananas The Retreat Barman had found some Amaro Nardini and made me his version of a Paper Plane. Normally it would be Equal parts Woodford Bourbon, Amaro Nonino, Aperol and Lemon Juice but he couldn't find any Nonino so substituted with the Nardini. A very plesant drink which My Gastrognome actually thought better than the one I had in the World Class Bar yesterday. There was also an ecelent selection of nibbles available. The big difference from our last time on Silhouette was that one could help ones self where as last Summer it was all selected and serve for you.

Wouldn’t Princess need to report the positive cases to the port? I would think any port would be hesitant to have a ship dock with so many cases.
I do think Princess should release the correct numbers. Social media posts might not be accurate.😏

As England has  stopped testing as such and isolation is only a recommendation, Southampton  may not need to know numbers etc.

It's really interesting to find any consistency at all.   In the UK no regulations at all but recommend the 5 day.    U.S. only requires a negative test 1 day prior to boarding flight or a Recovery Certificate hat requires 5 day isolation.

I kinda like the Doctors here.    The one I called made a house call instead of coming to his Surgery.  He said he was ok with ending isolation after 2 negative tests 24 hours apart.

Like you suggested we are doing the 5 days minimum with 2 negative test.

Interesting re the doctor. I presume this was  a private clinic Trying to get a house visit in the Uk is very difficult and no chance on a Sunday of a bank holiday weekend. Our healthcare system is very different to USA.

I’m on the Edge Transatlantic as well (fantastic cruise, BTW!). Capt’n Costas’ announcement this morning was 6 passengers and 1 crew in isolation. For the ship’s population that comes to 0.47%. As we only have ports the rest of the cruise, I don’t believe there will be any more daily update announcements.

With the current variation as highly transmissible as it is, I personally think the mental torture of trying to “figure out” where it was contracted is pointless.

@bananavan, I’m 🙏 your hubby recovers soon, and you remain negative and asymptomatic. Off topic, but a friend traveling with us os also on the Regal Princess May 7 sailing for 21-days and would like to meet you as she will be traveling solo. You can contact Linda in stateroom 11144. She’d love to hear from you. 😊

I don’t think Bananavan will be on that sailing as they likely will be denied boarding having tested positive recently. I believe their concern is what they are going to do about their flight home from Rome in 4 weeks.

    Bo -

I would guess we would just continue having a great time as neither of us have any symptoms.    If we did come down with It we may have been imprisoned on Deck 3

I'm sure someone is going to get a surprise Gratis upgrade to our RS.    That's what happened to us on the TA.   We got a call the night before someone tested positive and the ship was already closed so they gave it to us.    It was funny because the previous guests Gillian and Peter showed up on our TV with us on our TV every time we were on the Main Menu.   I guess they were hiding under the bed.

From what I heard was on the TA -  A guest on one of the PH had a cocktail party for sail away and then tested positive contract tracing 3 couples in RS's.    I presumed he many also have infected our butler and state room attendants.

Sorry to hear this. I know how you feel as we just lost the celebrity beyond maiden due to a positive pre boarding test.

do you think that the fact the previous occupants of your cabin had covid have anything to do with your positive result?

I had norovirus many year’s ago and my cabin was supposed to be deep cleaned once I got better. I watched them do it and they didn’t even clean the phone. I had to request it. Not on Celebrity I might add
