  1. We just cruised on Magic out of PC ( I know, not vista or POM) but early debark for passengers with early flights started well before 8am. I want to say it was closer to 7:15 that morning.

Like you said, you will have priority debarkation. I would probably carry off your luggage just in case.

I think you will be fine. But depending on how many are in your party you may want to have a plan b just in case.

  2. The Magic. I know we had one on Vista ( a woman died in St. Martin).

I thought I saw the coroner van at the Magic after it came to Vista.

Not sure which stop you are referring to but at Grand Turk an older gentlemen was taken off the ship for heart issues. We were on the Magic. I was coming into the infirmary as he was being taken out. This was about 5:30pm ship time as we were getting ready to leave GT.

  3. The Savoy Hotel on South Beach offers day passes. My DD and I did this the last time we cruises out of Miami and had a late flight that day out of FLL. I think the price was $25 a person and included the use of the pool, towels and beach access. They have a bar next to the pool to order food and drinks.

We also rented a car from Hertz. It was less than $40 with a pickup at the port and drop off at FLL airport.

It would be toss up as to whether we would do that again or hang out on the ship as long as possible and then head to Sawgrass Mills for shopping and a movie to kill some time.

  4. I am wondering the same...also I am comparing Discovery Cove in Orlando for the day as a post cruise day. So I would be interested to hear from anyone on the three.

  5. Actually, a closed loop just means that the ship returns to the port it departed from.

On a "cruise to nowhere", the duty-free goods are not really duty-free, duty has been paid and the price marked up to cover it. Therefore, no need for customs.

In this case, duty has not been paid on the items in the shop, so it's likely that passengers will have to clear customs and declare their purchases.

But we'll only know for sure once they return to port.

I can tell you from my experience they will not have to clear customs. We were on a cruise in 2010 that got diverted/changed because of a hurricane. Originally it was supposed to be a short 5 day cruise to Cozumel and Progresso out of New Orleans. We ended up with only one stop in Key West and an extra sea day. When we arrived back in NO, there were no customs agents. They debarked the ship as normal but we literally zipped right thru baggage claim and onto the car. Fastest debarkation ever!

My assumption is in this case passengers never even visited a port. So there wouldn't be any customs to go thru.

  6. We did the cave tubing excursion as a family a few years ago in December. We did not have any mosquito/insect repellant with us. And i am normally one that gets bit up by mosquitos when we are here at home. But no one in our party got one mosquito bite. Not sure if it was the time of year or if they actually treat the area for mosquitos.

I think you will be fine just be sure to take some mosquito repellant with you.

On this same cruise we stopped at Roatan and did not have any issues with mosquitos either. Again just have mosquito repellent with you.

On another cruise we took in October we went to Roatan and visited Maya Key. I had no less than 50 small bug bites on me as did a lot of the people on the excursion as well. Should have had bug spray! The bites didn't itch just looked bad with all the little tiny red bites everywhere. But they were gone by the next morning. Not sure what kind of bug bites they were though.....

  7. And Mahogany Bay is definitely cheap or can be tailored to your budget for sure.

One of the best excursions we have done was the Dune Buggy tour in Cozumel. We drove to the other side of the island for beach and lunch and on the way there toured some small ruins and snorkled. Something like that may fall in your active category.

  8. I thought Little French Key was in Roatan?

We enjoyed the cave tubing in Belize but it is a long drive to get there and back.

In Roatan, we have done ziplining and beach day on West End Beach. hubby and I on our last cruise together did Mahogany Bay. And on the last mother-daughter cruise with DD we went to Maya Key in Roatan and enjoyed all 3 for different reasons/experiences.

  9. My daughter and I do a mother-daughter trip every year in October for her school Fall Break. We have done beach trips and cruises. The last cruise she was 15. She has cruised before and did not want to participate in any of the teen activities. We had fun watching the hairy chest contest, mixed drink contest, etc on Lido. We played Bingo, mini golf and just "hung out" and relaxed on the sea days. We did the dive in movies, production shows, and comedy shows in the evenings. There is so much to choose from it makes for a great trip. And you can choose excursions based on your daughters interests too.

We are trying to plan our next cruise now, looking at dates, itineraries etc. My daughter ( almost 17 now) has said she wants to always continue our mother-daughter trip tradition even when she is in college and beyond.

So i would go forward and make your plans. It may turn into an annual trip.

  10. I don't know anything about Gallows but last year my DD(16) and I did the Starfish Island Snorkel. We enjoyed both the island and the snorkeling. The guides separated us into beginner and experienced snorkelers. We saw lots of fish and coral.

  11. Curious as to the answer here as well. We are looking at and trying to decide on a cruise for next summer. The two we are considering are Magic and Splendor. Both are due for dry dock but I have not seen anywhere about what will be added during dry dock.

The one request my son has is the ship has to have Guy's Burgers. We have never cruised or not cruised on ship because of food but this is his senior HS trip so it is kinda important this time. And 18 year old boys can eat a lot!

  12. We are looking to book a family cruise next year on the Magic out of PC. We are trying to decide between a suite and 2 balcony cabins. Cruising are myself, DH, DD-16, and DS-18. There does not seem to be a big difference in price between the different options. And if DH and myself are booked in different cabins, he can get Cheers. I usually have one DOD and bring my own wine with dinner, so Cheers just does not work for me.

    So here are my questions-----

    1. With the aft wrap cabins and the premium (large) balcony cabins that are next door, does that partition open to make one big balcony?

    2. With the premium (large) balcony cabins and the standard balcony cabins next door, do those partitions open?

    3. For the cove balcony cabins that are actually connecting rooms, do the partitions open the “right” direction? Or would we need to book 2 cove balcony cabins that are just next door to each other? And does this theory apply to other standard balcony cabins as well?

Thank you in advance for your help! We have cruised many times in a balcony and cove balcony cabins but I have never paid that much attention other than I know the partitions open. :)
