  1. Tell me your thoughts assuming you have a balcony.

Under what conditions like rain, cold, glacier viewing, darkness, angle of views etc...

Your strategy for viewing . Ex, I read one post that family had balcony rooms on opposite sides (Port vs Starboard) and they  would jump from one side to the other during glacier. turn around to get double the time.

I am contemplating getting balconies next to each other with family (reunion) so we can make our balconies larger and have better views and interact with each other.

(Does anyone know at what temp?).

Look at it this way if you can walk-about the pool area in a swim suit - shorts should be no problem...

I understand people wear swimsuits but most of the time it is for a limited time while doing that activity and mostly for the hot tubs which are hot.

I'm interested to know how warm (at what temp) is the inside of the ship as a lot of people have stated "the cruise line keeps the inside of the ship warm". Warm can be a lot of different temps to different people. My upper body gets cold so I always like to check temperatures to places that might get cold for me.

I think I might just might ask in a separate thread what temp. I wear shorts 95% of the time (> 55F) but take a light sweater when temps go below 70F (I can hear people laughing as they read this).

  3. I understood by the title that the OP wants to know if shorts are OK on the ship. I've read that the cruise lines keep the ships warm but they don't say at what temp (Does anyone know at what temp?). I'm from Miami, FL and have the same question. Good news is that you can, and if it gets too cold your room is close by to change.

I've had a lot of co-workers who wear shorts in 40F degree weather from up north who now freeze in 60F temps after living in Miami for just 6 months.

Remember that part of the fun of any vacation is looking forward to it. And women can be particular about things like hair cuts and/or coloring, etc, and there could be appointments and things she’ll want to plan for prior to your vacation.

On second thought, with all the money you are spending on the trip not telling her can save you some money. Just Kidding. Although we try to be romantic with our significant others, my wife would kill me if I surprised her and she wasn't prepared for the surprise. It's funny but everyone is different, you know your wife better than anyone so take our advice with a gain of salt. And for me, one day I will go out and skies the limit, I will surprise her and whisk her away day of. Good Luck.

My Navigator of Seas cruise was cancelled (4/3/2020) so I checked my insurance email and found a FAQ that stated that I can get a full refund or apply credit to a future cruise (before Dec 2021).

I suggest that you do not panic and do not call before you have a chance to do a little research. Things are changing everyday and by the hour and if you panic like those who were first to cancel you might not get the best options. Wait till you get closer to your cruise before pulling the trigger. First it was  lose your deposit, then FCC, then they added a refund, then they sweetened the pot with 125% FCC, don't know if they are giving OBC like Carnival but not surprised if they did or will offer OBC.

This is the mentality that I am talking about, not to pick on this poster but this is how we all think. I thought the same thing, "no way was the trip insurance company going to refund me or even give me any compensation .."

Has anyone had success calling their auto/home/and fire insurance for a refund after not having any claims?

The government and businesses are doing their best in this critical time of our lives. You will be surprised how in time of crisis human kind and spirit prevail. Be patient and have faith.

Good health and good luck to all. See you on the High Seas when this is over.

  6. Prices went down on my 3 day Navigator of the Seas cruise in April. Presently I have an Inside Virtual Balcony room mid ship, port side 9th floor (I think ideal location). I can upgrade to a Guaranty Balcony for same price. Are there any bad balconies on NOS? Like obstructed view . There are aft and Fwd cabins on decks 6,7,9 and 10 left. On a three day cruise should I risk a good location? I know it is personal preference but maybe some one out there can help. I would think that since balconies are on the outside of the ship (not interior) noise from above or below might be negligible if given deck 6.

    What do you think?

  7. We also did this tour in March and had no problem getting a taxi. After the tour we walked down the street and took the bus back to the ship. It's a really good tour with wonderful food for lunch.

I did the same thing and had no issue. The taxi was supposed to be cheaper outside the port area and we walked outside and hailed a cab that took an extra 20 min so i was kind of scared but the ride is short.

I ended up paying the same taxi fare amt outside so it was a waste of time not to mention walk.

We also took a bus back.

  8. There is a big difference between saltwater pools and pools with salt water generators(SWG). You need to be close to the ocean to have a saltwater pool which has 35,000 ppm of salt. A pool with a salt water system is < 3,500 ppm of salt (10x less salt).

One reason pools with SWG are less irratating to your eyes is because our eyes salanity is close to those levels. In the Ocean you might be irratated because of high levels of salt.

I have been on 4 different cruise lines (US) and all the main pools were saltwater. Only the hot tubs were fresh water.

  9. Carnival actually intermittently offers resident discount for many states, and not just those with ports and not just Florida. The resident discount is not a permanent discount and is offered as a reduced fare. When you do a cruise search, enter your state and any resident rates currently offered will be indicated. Ken

I agree. I have done mock bookings where I saved a small amt when I enter FL resident and other times no savings. The website advertising usually states Resident promotions.

  10. It is ALWAYS wiser to format your cards in the camera than erase from a laptop or anything else. Not saying bad things happen, but I read about people having bad cards and corrupt pictures. Many blame the card etc.

Since converting to digital and going thru too many P&S and DSLR with many many cards and downloads never lost a picture due to card failure, just human error.

    Agree 100%

  11. To paraphrase what everyone else said.

    1. Large luggage must be checked in due to size.

    2. Carryon can be checked in and should be available early at your cabin but there are risks. One being lost or damaged. Carry on items should be items that are valuable in cost and needs like medication, change of clothes, etc.

  12. You seemed to miss this part on the Carnival facts page:

A small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, juice, and milk) packaged in cans or cartons may be brought onboard on embarkation day only in guests’ carry-on luggage. A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 12 ounces each or less per person.

They are enforcing the embarkation day only rule now. Use to be, you could restock at ports, that is no longer the case.

The part about embarkation only has been the policy for years yet you were able to restock on sodas, water, chips. It was a matter if they felt like enforcing. Also about discarding items or holding them for you when trying to bring from the outside. Proceed with caution even if you ask one of xray techs scanning bags you might get a different person on the way back.

  13. I take a pair every cruise. I use them from my balcony when we see another ship in the distance or when we are in port. I bought the Bushnell Excursion HD 10X42 on Amazon last year and at the time was one of the best values for my specs of a not too expensive but not cheap set. Very happy with them.

  14. I think it is a good idea. My last cruise I had a collapsible cooler and asked the steward to please fill with ice which he did however he did not leave an ice bucket. I asked why and he said they only leave on request. Having a list would improve service as you can write in what you want and prevent any confusion. Actually, a better idea qoould be to fill this out prior to boarding so everything can be waiting and the list would be in the system and printable for the steward. Also the should add this to the TV app so it can be communicated in real time. Like clean room after 9am or let steward know times you are not to be disturbed.
