  1. Thought Ketchikan had best prices. Bought lanyard for card for $1.99 and used entire cruise and land cruise and it was pretty! Ship wanted $4.95 for lanyard that said Princess - mine has Alaska wild flowers and DH has Alaska animals - can use again anywhere, any cruise line!

  2. Were dress shirt without tie and jacket acceptable for men on the formal nights in dining rooms?

Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk

DH wore a nice pair of pants and a collared polo shirt. I wore slacks and a not glittery top - we looked fine but we didn't eat in main DR as we had anytime dining which worked out fine with the BUSY schedule on ship. We went to dinner as early as 5:15 some nights and as late as 7:30 due to activities.

  3. On Wed, May 30, woke up to trains on the track(Princess) but we then got told train wasn't running due to rock slides so we had to go on a bus to Yukon side(extra), suspension bridge and then back to Skagway for Jewell Gardens. Bus driver was terrific, saw bears, went on planned excursions, took lots of photos, and got $90 each person back. Tho disappointed, we felt the day was terrific! Bus was usual, comfortable coach bus!

  4. We took the train to Mt. McKinley Lodge from Star a week ago and had to leave at 7:15 am which did not give us enough time for breakfast! We were able to purchase food on the train. We would have liked to have last breakfast on board ship but just not enough time to get to buffet and back and get to disembarkation area - maybe we are just slow!!

  5. I am assuming you get charged if you use them - can you get the steward to remove them? What is charge?

And, BTW, is the refrigerator actually cold or more like a storage area like on RCI? I figure you need to keep the ice bucket full if you want cold anything!!

    Thank you!

  6. I have seen some remarks about the refrigerator and drinks that are already in it. We are leaving in 9 days on the Star in a Mini-suite and wondering what the deal is with the Drinks in the refrigerator or on the countertop! Any help is appreciated! On RCL, we just had the steward take everything out!

  7. That's what we decided - DH will push Rollator with carry ons and gate check it so we have it in Vancouver for cruise. I will go in wheel chair to conserve energy. That way, I will have Rollator while we are waiting for flight to be called and hopefully at stop over in Toronto! Same for the way home from Fairbanks to Minneapolis to home!

Thank you all for getting me straight!!

  8. Leaving for our Alaska trip on the 26th and would hate to miss any ports! Probably would never get back this way as air fare to Alaska and back to Hartford was in excess of $1500 for 2 people not counting stay one night before cruise. I would not be happy to miss anything. Good for you to be so agreeable with the compensation but unless they flew me back, I would be very sad!!

    Princess, fix that ship!!

  9. I found this difficult to find for my Land Cruise in a few weeks but did find it!

Go to Princess.com and sign in. Go to Booked Guests then find Shore excursions in drop down menu. Hit (green) Browse and Reserve Excursions, See Itinerary and hit the day at Denali or Mount McKinley and the available excursions will be listed.

    I hope this helps.

  10. We chose Princess for our Alaska 7 day cruise, 5 day land tour so we could bring less clothing and have clean clothes on the land portion. Could not even imagine what the suitcases would weigh with all the jeans if we could not do laundry!! We have to fly back and forth from Hartford so weight is definitely a consideration!

  11. I can probably walk the distance with the Rollator through Bradley(Hartford) and Toronto and Vancouver. If not, I can sit down! DH will be with me so that makes it easier, although he does like following behind the wheelchair and not having to worry about where he is going! If we don't have too much carry on, he can push the Rollator. We will have the seat to put items in and on! I never thought about going alone - good luck to you and enjoy your trip to England!

I am not going to worry about the Rollator on the way back and will just use the wheelchair assistance as I can put a claim in if it is damaged and I don't use it much at home. But, I will need it on our Land Cruise in Alaska!

  12. I originally planned on sending my walker with our luggage but thanks to all the horror stories I have read, I am going to call back Air Canada and cancel my wheelchair assistance and gate check the walker. I can't afford the time to replace the walker if it is damaged and I don't want to wait at the other end in Vancouver for it to arrive after 2 flights! Thanks for all the advice!! Glad to learn from others' mistakes!

  13. If you have even the slightest interest in old cars, I recommend the Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum. It is a great combination of old American cars, automotive history of Alaska and period clothing. Also, regardless of what you decide to do, you really need a car in Fairbanks, even if for just part of a day. Otherwise you will spend too much time getting from place-to-place.

    DON

Thanks, Don. DH has a 66 El Camino so I am sure he would love that museum!

  14. I would imagine we will be at the Princess Lodge. I guess we could get our luggage at the Lodge and then go to airport if it is so close by. I really appreciate all of your suggestions!

We, too, have chickadees all year long but don't know what kind ours are - they are so cute to watch! We will have to stop feeding them, soon, as the bears are out in Connecticut and we don't want to encourage them to stick around!

  15. Rent a car and go to the UAF museum, check out the Farmer's market if you're there on one of the days it's held. There's also the botanic gardens and the large animal farm (reindeer and musk ox). If you're into Christmas you can drive to the Santa Claus house in North Pole. Have lunch. Drive up to Ester Dome or Murphy Dome and check out the views.

You can load your luggage in the trunk and have it with you until you turn the car in at the airport.

We were going to leave the luggage at the hotel but this would also get us to the airport on time! Thanks for the suggestion.

As far as wandering around downtown, I have some mobility issues and that would be a struggle - thanks anyway for the video Youtube links.

  16. We are ending our Princess Land Cruise on June 7 in the morning and our flight is at 9:30 the same night. We have mid-morning to Late afternoon to fill up and we were wondering what to do. I don't know what hotel we will be staying in. We are older(65+) and not looking for active adventure but will be looking for sightseeing, etc. The tours I have seen seem to start early in the morning and we would prefer to get ourselves(and luggage!) organized during that time while we still have a hotel room. What is there to do in the afternoon? Are there tours available for that time period? HELP!!

  17. No Princess will not have a problem. Being that you booked a standard cabin Princess was letting you know the total cabin door threshold clearance is only 21" wide. Therefore the walker has to be less than that if you need to use the walker through the doorway. Your going to have to fold the rollator to get it through the cabin door . The rollator will not fit into the bathroom.

I am fortunate that I can walk(do 10,000+ steps in place on Fitbit daily!), just mostly need the Rollator when standing or when I get fatigued. Went to the Mall last week and actually went all through Macy's without the Rollator! The Fitbit has seemed to improved my stamina.

  18. I keep it in my car and just use it as needed so - I just went out and measured and you are all correct - 21" wide and a little less in depth when folded so I should be "legal" and able to have it. I will not be using it on the ship except to go to the excursions so I will be fine. I can walk a little bit but standing for any time is what is difficult! Thank you all so much for your prompt help!!

  19. Well, I was going to check my Rollator as luggage but I guess from what I have read on this Board that this is not a good idea! I will definitely want it from my Alaska cruise and land tour in good condition!

My question regards the cruise ship. We have a mini-suite which should leave enough room for the Rollator, but the instructions from Princess states item can only be 21" wide and I do not believe it is less than 21" wide! I can walk, just need help on long walks, excursions, etc. Will I have a problem with the Cruiseline when I go to check in? Planned on bringing Bungee cords to secure it to something in our room.
