We are very close to our breaking point with NCL, they seem to be constantly taking away amenities and or adding a surcharge for items that used to be included in the cruise fare, we love the NCL suite life but over the years the prices have continued to climb while the amenities have continued to decline.

This is where we are too. We are on the Jade next week and then we are going to revisit other lines and try new ones. NCL has been degrading their product for the last several years and we have hung in there because we love the suite life and the platinum perks but it’s no longer working for us. We’re platinum on princess too so maybe we’ll go back there for a while. Also maybe We’ll try carnival again now that we have a kiddo too. It’s bittersweet. We have really loved the memories and friends we’ve made on NCL. 🙁

  2. We cruised on the gem with our 9 month old last year.  We carried all of the food on with us.  We also found so many things for him to eat onboard that we ended up taking a lot home.  We bought the take and toss spoons on amazon as well so we didn't have to worry about losing them.  They also have disposable bibs.  Don't forget to bring a small dish soap for washing pacifiers, utensils, cups etc.  You butler will be able to provide you with prep tools.  You will always have plates and utensils in your suite.  Also, I don't remember if the PR CVS had baby food but the last time we were there was pre-baby.  Ask me anything.

  3. We booked the Norwegian Jade last April. Several months ago our embarkation was moved  from Manhattan to Brooklyn due to overcrowding.  Now I just got an email from NCL stating the ship would be arriving in Brooklyn at noon (with no passengers) and boarding will begin at 1:30.  The cruise is next week.  Way too late to change travel.

My question is how early will they begin accepting luggage for a ship arriving at noon?  We have a toddler and would prefer not to stand in a parking lot waiting to be let in if at all possible.  I tried calling the Brooklyn port and they do not answer the phone.  If anyone has any insight I would be very grateful.  Thank you.

There was one piano player, Brad Stevens, and one guitar player, Leo Jostol. They would appear in the Atrium and Magnum's every night, and I really enjoyed listening to both of them.  Leo in particular seemed to have quite a following! Magnum's was sometimes quite packed in the evenings with people watching him.

There was also the Webb Band, performing in Spinnakers or out on the pool deck - I found the female singer talented, but I didn't go out of my way to head to their performances (I'm not much of a dancer and prefer mostly chatting).  There was also a group called Vibz Quartet playing instrumental music in some places, but I don't really remember what they sounded like. Leo Jostol made a bigger impression.

We love Leo.  The Gem is our fave and we have sailed with Leo many times.  Thanks for your review.  🙂

Bidding is by INVITATION and not automatic to everyone on board.

Way to check if you received the invitation is not by email but by going to your MyNCL account and see if you

received the invitation at that point - one of the rotating screens should have:

    "LET'S GET YOU UPGRADED"

If you see that follow the prompts to see what is available for you to bid and to make payment arrangements

    if you subsequently win.

Regarding the JADE if that sailing is full as in FULL the upgrading bidding may have only been to a very few

select guests to upgrade to suites. When a ship sails FULL there is not much room for upgrading.

Yup, I know.  I have successfully bid before.  Just wondering if what the NCL agent said was accurate.

So my husband and I can't go to the steam room together, which is fine. Can you tell me what kind of pools are on the Gem here? Pictures we see show seats looking out a large window is this a true fact? We haven't done any NCL spas just the Regal Princess and the relaxing area had small high windows, but the stem and sauna were co-ed.

Thanks for any answers or comments.

Here's a photo of the thermal pool.  This pool has tons of jets.  It is located in the common area so you and your husband can enjoy it together.

The windows are floor to ceiling by the blue chairs in the pic Parrothead posted above.  Many people nap there.
