I wouldn't do a gay cruise, ads always show shirtless hunks and I am not like that. Maybe people are standoffish because they feel threatened having a stranger talk to their spouse/partner.

    Check out r family vacations

I 2nd rFamily.  Much friendlier cruisers.  We met a few people we are still friends with to this day 10+ years later.

We haven't sailed with rFam again though because of the pricing.  I hate paying more to go on an LGBT cruise when we are perfectly fine meeting LGBT or straights on a mainstream cruise at half the price.

  2. Not an oceanview but here is my story.

We booked a Gty balcony several years ago and were assigned a midship balcony on deck 9.  We were thrilled.  However, this cruise was leaving NYC as they were closing the port of NY for Hurricane Sandy and by the 2nd night we had been through so much rough weather that the lifeboat below us was loose and constantly banging against something.  It was impossible to sleep and they couldn't fix it the whole cruise.  We eventually had to move on day 5 of a 7 day cruise.

I thought it couldn't possibly happen again and booked another gty the following year and again noisy lifeboat below our deck 9 balcony.  This time they didn't have any available cabins to move us.

Maybe we were just unlucky but I would never book again without the ability to choose my own cabin.

  3. I just disembarked the Gem this morning. I brought on about 8 bags of breast milk and my breast pump no problem at all.

edit to add: the bags lasted up to 5 days in the mini fridge. I just used the first pumped first used method and it worked great.

  4. Better to not bring a 9 month old on a cruise

    So rude.

To the OP I am bringing my 9 month old on the Gem next month and my PCC said sealed baby food was fine. I also emailed the access desk for a liquid exception so we could bring bottled water, which they granted.

  5. Some woman phoned in a complaint to Fox in San Diego, saying the waves were 15 to 16 feet yesterday and she'd never seen anything like it. Geez! Fifteen feet is NORMAL ocean swell. When DH and I were on the Jewel during Hurricane Sandy the first night we had some 40 ft waves. Now that you can complain about.

We were in that jewel cruise. Now THAT was a ride!

  6. 04) There is no FEE for using the blue and white stripe towels in your cabin for all the public areas. Take them from your cabin to pool, sauna, hot tubs, wherever without the fear of being dinged for not returning them. If they are used, just leave them where you like (not being rude about it) but....you do not have to drag them back to your cabin, ok. You ca also ask for many more if need be. They are also set onto many lounger chairs throughout the ship.

I think that's the sign of the legendary chair hog! :p

  7. I stumbled across this thread in preparation of our visit in 68 days (who's counting right?). I cannot wait to make this trek, such an adventure.

Thank you to all those who have contributed, I certainly am anxious to make my contributions as well!

I think we're on the same cruise. :) How about a group excursion?

  8. Wish we were cruising this year but just booked Alaska for next July, 2011. We are 2 moms with a 9 year old daughter. We did the RFam Canada/NE cruise in 2008 and our daughter had a blast. We just couldn't do any of their dates this year. It is really hard to find other families like ours on a mainstream cruise. Obviously we don't cruise just to be with other gay families, we cruise b/c of the itinerary, but it would be so nice to be comfortable hanging out with new friends and not worrying that they don't "approve" of us! Are you going to Bermuda? We have talked about trying Bermuda out of NYC. Have a great cruise!

We did the same cruise! My wife and I got married with about 10 other couples at the courthouse in St. John's. I agree Rfamily is a great option if you can afford it.
