  1. It was true in our case....booked a Bella balcony cabin in a good position for my needs but MSC "upgraded" us to a Fantastica balcony cabin with absolutely no extra perks of a Fantastica experience...that was on Splendida September 2016

We were on Splendida March 2017. Maybe they change something in their policy, I don't know. I know what we paid and what we got. In the real life, Bella vs. Fantastica isn't so big difference.

  2. Well done, so. Great information there, DTL!

Another situation where something cannot be definitively stated. In this case it's that "The upgrade is cabin only and not 'Experience'" according to your evidence otherwise.

Us I understand, every balcony cabin on deck 15 as example, have Fantastica. Same cabin on let's say deck 8 is Bella. If every Bella on the ship is already booked, when they gave you an upgrade, you will get experience upgrade as well. That's how I understand this. Very important in whole process is your VC status.

  3. Very surprised to hear that as free upgrades give you the upgraded cabin category but not the 'Experience' that goes with it.

We received an upgrade on Fantasia in Feb from Fantastica balcony to Aurea balcony without the perks.

We booked at a Fantastica balcony price for a guarantee on Sinfonia for August last year and also got an upgrade to an Aurea suite - again, sans perks.

    Hi Bea,

Thanks again for all your efforts about Meraviglia.

We were also very, very surprised about the whole thing. I had a little chat with Reception Chief Officer and she told me that "system" creates space for upgrades, and that their central booking office according to their rules makes cabin upgrades.

Because of the new rules which they have been implementing for over a year already, same kind of cabin on different deck means different experience automatically. Of course Black and double Gold, gave us some advantage.

In some post from a few days ago, somebody asked about "why this kind of cabin, in the aft can't be YC category" if I remember well.

Seems to me that they have to have "territorial" distribution for easy guest/cleaning/dining/etc. management. And we were just lucky in whole process.

    Greetings

  4. Has anyone ever gotten upgraded on the MSC Divina or any other MSC cruise. We usually sail NCL and receive upgrade offers to different level cabin categories.

    Hi,

This spring we booked MSC Splendida cruise in Mediterranean, two inside cabins with Bella experience. When we embarked, they gave us two balcony cabins with Fantastica experience and all other perks. Our daughter was alone in one of them.

I'm Black member, and my DW and girl, they are Gold members.

It's always matter of availability, cruise season and as I understand, it's up to MSC itself, not TA.

    Cheers

  5. Do you have a marble bathroom at home? It's a bathroom... it provides two purposes in life and I couldn't care lass about what it's made of, it's clean and functional. I'm not buying the room, just renting it for a week.

A stool would be handy but that's about it. It's fine by me and I'm a big guy. The privileges of YC is what matter to me not the finishes of the bathroom [emoji372]

    Totally agree [emoji12]

  6. DTL ..... The 2 asterisked items are not included in any package. YC guests get premium (now known as deluxe) so all items with 1 asterisk are ok except in Jean-Philippe venues where they have no agreement with MSC to allow inclusions.

Show prices are €15 p.p with cocktail or €35 pp with dinner. They are the only 2 options.

  7. Everything without asterisks are included for Aurea guests. Also the gelato in the Atmosphere Ice-cream cream (pool) bar on deck 15 aft and the Polar bar on deck 19 aft.

    Hi Bea,

Thank you for your efforts to give us real picture and atmosphere of the ship. We will be in Meraviglia's YC in 47 days, and we can't wait. We understand situation with the lines for MDR, and lot of other small inconsistencies in this particular moment, because everything is new not only for us, but for the crew also. We saw that in January 2009 with MSC Fantasia.

Explanation could be summarized in this very good SAP marketing video witch will explained a lot of problems in this very moment https://youtu.be/miKQMGJ8uSA.

From our previous MSC cruises we learned that there is Allegrissimo (24 hours selected drinks) and Allegrissimo Premium (24 hours ALL available drinks) as separate packages. OK

From your today's pictures it's obvious that there is "Super Premium" selection of drinks in bars around the ship. Does it mean that this selection is not included even in Allegrissimo Premium?

    This was our first question.

Second question is: asterisk signed drinks on bar menu in bars around the ship, are they available for free for YC guests? This drinks are obviously already included in YC special part of the ship.

Our third question is: Cirque shows entrance is 15€ with or without cocktail? Entrance fee is obligatory?

Thank you a lot, and have a very unforgettable cruise. ❤️you

  8. It makes no sense

    as:-

Carnival group cruise brands include P&O Cruises, Cunard, Princess Cruises, Seabourn Cruise Line,P&O Cruises Australia, Holland America Line, Carnival Cruises, AIDA and Costa.

In your case the TA accepts some of these cruise lines for bookings outside USA and some not yet they are all in the same company.I am from the UK and do not understand any of it.

Just go to the link I provided and you will see.

  9. Hi,

It's been a while from my last post in this forum. So I have question/topic which I would like to discuss with all of you.

My wife and I, we are not US/Canada citizens, we are Europeans. We are living in non EU member country.

MSC web site for our country is connected to EU member countries website, where we can search for itineraries, we can see prices, but that's it. We can't make an reservation, we can't book cruise, and there is no option for any other option after booking purchase.

Everything going through local travel agents.

So, prices can be very dubious! Sometimes, for the same cruise, they are same as in Italy or Spain (lowest European rates), and sometimes they are higher then in Germany or in UK (highest European rates, cruise only).

My wife and I, we are both MSC Club/MSC Voyagers Club members, Black (me) and Gold(my lady).

So few days ago, we saw this nice cruise with MSC Poesia from Genova, May 1, 2016, and we decided to go. But price was sky high! We contacted our usual local TA, they offer was even pricier. So we decide to try an web travel agent for the first time. After small research we decided to try with Cruise.com.

The price we got was much lower, we picked Guarantee balcony cabin and we went through booking process without any problems, and we paid full price, because it was less then 45 days prior to our cruise.

    OK, no problem.

Then I found on Cruise.com web site small notice that MSC, Costa, HAL, RCCL, Oceania and Princess prohibit U.S. travel agencies from selling cruises to customers who do not have a residence in the U.S. or Canada.

And even on there website there is series of special numbers for customers from UK, Australia etc. http://m.cruise.com/international-cruise-clients/.

So question is how they can sold something what is prohibited? Our country name was there (almost every country in the world is there), as customer I didn't saw any potential problem.

But we got out invoice and booking number without problems.

I sent an email to TA, and they immediately responded that there is actually an forbidden countries list, but our country isn't on that list, and we are fine.

Then I tried to made an web check-in and I passed through with my booking # and name. Everything was correct except there is no our passport numbers (with issuing/validity dates). Immediately I call MSCUSA call center over Skype, I talked with nice lady, and she explained to me that our cabin is Guaranteed one, and when system decide our cabin #, then we will be able to make an web check-in.

    OK, that is very reasonable.

After few days I tried with web check-in again, but now I've got message that procedure has failed. I received a message stating that I have to contact my travel agent or MSC Cruises. And I did!

After few calls to MSC USA over Skype, I didn't solve nothing. Except one of the ladies I spoked with, told me that cabin is assigned, she told me our cabin #, and then she asked me why I booked my cruise over US web site, I described our reason, then she put me on hold, and after ~ 20 minutes of holding the connection was broken.

Then I called my TA, another lady was very polite and nice, but basically useless. She explained that everything is OK, but I can't make an web check-in, and I have to go in Genova (1.180km/708 miles away from our home) to the pier to make an check in. I asked what if they refuse boarding, she just answered "they will not".

Immediately after that call, I tried web check-in again, and I passed through!!!

I made an check-in, and I printed that verification document, with our correct names, correct passport #, issuing/validity dates, correct nationality and cabin #.

Only glitch on that paper is address, it's correct street and street #, city name, but country is UNITED STATES. I tried to correct that immediately but without changes.

So let it be! We are very close to our dream holiday.

But today, I tried to enter "MY BOOKING" zone on MSC USA web site, and again I got a message that booking # is not valid. I wrote an email to TA immediately, with basically only one big question:

WHO WILL PROVIDE CRUISE CARD/BOARDING PASS AND LUGGAGE TAGS to us?

On our previous cruises few times we got our boarding pass and tags by an email, but few times they sent it to us by the regular postal mail.

    TA didn't answered yet.

I spent whole afternoon reading this forums, but I didn't found anything similar to our case.

So my question, is there anybody with same experience with MSC or any other cruise line? And what if they deny boarding to us?

Excuse me for this very long story, but there is no way to explain it otherwise.

    Thanks for help.

  10. I just saw your answer!

Very Excited WAUUUUUUU! This is great! Thanks!

May I ask you for a few minutes of your time?

So my question is what is your recommendation for shore excursions:

    1. Cannes (Tender 08:00 -16:00) - Nica & Eze or Montecarlo & Monaco (Ship tour)?

    2. Ibiza (Docked overnight) - Island Tour or Unknown Ibiza or A Trip to Fromentera (Ship Tours)?

    3. Mahon (Docked 08:00 - 14:00) - Highlights on Menorca or Ciuatedella or Villages of Minorca (Ship Tours)?

    http://www.msccruises.ie/ie_en/Cruise-Departures/Cruise-Itinerary-MSC-Sinfonia-Rates.aspx?cruise_id=SI20140721GOAGOA&ship_code=SI&excTab=3

    4. Olbia (Docked 09:00 - 15:30) - the biggest problem

    http://www.msccruises.ie/ie_en/Cruise-Departures/Cruise-Itinerary-MSC-Sinfonia-Rates.aspx?cruise_id=SI20140721GOAGOA&ship_code=SI&excTab=3

    5. Salerno (Docked 07:00 - 13:00) - another enormous problem Pompeii or Amalfi Coast

We prefer ship tours (my wife especially) because we had experiences when public transport you relay on just stop working because of workers protests (especially in Italy and France).

But, if you have some other ideas please be free to advice.

    Thanks AmoMondo

  11. First of all, thanks for very quick response! :)

We booked MSC Sinfonia cruise on 21 July 2014. Not very impressive itinerary, but we are on holidays, and we never was in that part of Mediterranean. We want to enjoy.

On our last two cruises with MSC we booked Allegrissimo and Allegrissimo Premium (just to compare), but always through TA, and we never got MSC Club points (and we are Gold Members, both of us). My mistake :( (but I think that wasn't option two years ago - online booking, and paying on-board to get MSC Club points)

But now we want to maximize our results regarding MSC Club points (I'm so close to Black Card)

So I tried to book online.

Through Croatian web site I can prebook parking, newspapers, shore excursions but not drinks and not spa packages. Very strange!

We contacted Croatian MSC representative, they called Italy, and answer was simple: ".. for your market that is not available option". Only 200€ spent onboard = 1 point. is good option for MSC!

But... we have 300€ onboard credit (voucher from last cruise) and we want to spent it in some proper manner.

As I understand all posts concerning Allegrissimo, the only obvious way to get points in our case, is to book package on embarkation day. With 15% service charge.

But, because we are speaking about MSC, the dark cloud suddenly came over me - "would they charge 15% for each drink". That was the reason for my question.

Yes it's almost the same on Croatian web site, but as I described, it didn't work. And, I can't book through UK (or Italy, US or Germany) web site because booking number is connected with market! (I'm getting "wrong booking number"mistake, over and over again).

    Thanks again,

    to both of you

  12. Hi,

We tried to prebook Allegrisimo package through Croatian MSC web site, but it didn't work because some "higher reasons known only to MSC web site administrator" (topic very well known). We can book parking and excursions, but not drinks packages.

So, if we book Allegrissimo on-board we have to pay an additional 15% service charge. Does it means 15% for each drink, or 15% on top for whole package?

    Example: 2 adults x 23€ + 1 child x 12€ = 58€ per day x 7 days = 406€ + 15% = 466.9€ total - for whole package.

It's imoportant for us, because of MSC Club points.

  13. So, I have a question?

Should we continue to argument somebody who don't want to listen, or we will continue to document him with facts.

My opinion is that every time we are try do document opposite of Cruisetrail's statements, we are jumping in trap of justifying our own knowledge and experience. There is no results of proving evidence based truths to someone who's only intention is to draw attention.

  14. We are going to book an inside cabin this time.

We plan to spend the least on the cabin.

That's why we seriously consider the Divina.

On the cruise in the Caribbean we'll be mostly out and about the ship.

The last place where we want to spend our cruise vacation is a cabin. A first look at the ships's deck plans and amenities.

Another missing feature we would use a lot is a hydropool in spa.

So do we on our next 27. July cruise on Divina (inside cabin) East Med.

On every cruise we spent most time out of cabin, but also out of ship too. That is the reason why we don't care about ship, as much as about itineraries. In Mediterranean we could see so much in every single port.

But you are cruising Caribbean. I understand.

And you are wrong about spa. There is large jacuzzi/hydropool in spa on Fantasia & Splendida (we used it every time we was in spa). So I believe that Diva has it also.

  15. This is an update to my earlier post regarding problems with OBC and these voucehers.

After emailling Customer Service back in May we were still told that the cruise we booked was on a promo - it is only today after four requests that I have been told we booked using the KIS (Keep it Simple) promo.

I was not told this when making the booking, nor was I told I told I couldn't use the voucher.

MSC have now offered to give us the OBC on a cruise we have booked in March 2014, along with 10% discount when we book another cruise with them.

Today I called msc to ask for a price for a cruise. I was quoted a price which was higher than their virtual brochure price and when I asked to use my Choose today, Cruise tomorrow voucher I was told I couldn't as this was a promo price. How can a promo price be higher than the brochure price???

The guy said he would contact Head Office to ask if he could book this cruise on an Early booking price...still waiting for a call back. The cruise i'm looking at is for September 2014, the brochure has only just been published.....how early can you get???

I asked if I could book using the brochure price and was told their system is not set up to quote the brochure price so basically any price you are quoted either on the phone, or online will be a promo price

MSC are promoting ‘choose today, cruise tomorrow' vouchers on their ships but it is virtually impossible to book a cruise using the voucher.

MSC have a virtual brochure on their website but their sales systems are unable to make a booking using the brochure price.

MSC 2014 Simply Marvellous promo prices are higher than the brochure prices.

    Roisin

I have to say that I think, you are all wrong.

On our last summer cruise we bought this voucher for 20€.

Last October we booked MSC Musica cruise with our agency. We tried to use this voucher. Our agency immediately answered that we can't use it, because it was promotional cruise price.

Than, we booked this July MSC Divina cruise few months ago. We opted for inside stateroom (normal agency price, not brochure price), because we don't want to pay extra just for sleeping and showering in the cabin. Summer nights on MSC bars and disco can be very long :)).

When we made our booking, agency accounted our MSC Gold Card discount. We told them that we have this voucher, and they said OK bring it to us, we will copy it and send it to MSC.

We got our travel vouchers few days ago, and there is written:

    Chapter: Services

    Sub chapter: Special services

    Statement: sb150fcc − Ship board credit 150 eur/usd − Ship board credit 150 eur/usd.

    So, it works with MSC.

I think that real problem is your travel agency.
