  1. My sister just celebrated her big 5-0 this past week. As she lives a few states away, the family was not all together to celebrate this milestone event. So I'm thinking, why not celebrate it aboard the Sun in May on our Alaska cruise. There are 3 couples going on the cruise and we would like to keep this a secret (she does not read these boards so don't worry!) but I need some advise. CAKE....should we buy one in Vancouver and bring it aboard (thus ruining the surprise) or are there options onboard to have a cake made and presented during a specific time? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

  2. We are getting off the SUN on Mon May 26th and flying back to the east coast. We are looking at a 148pm departure to Chicago and onward. Have never departed YVR on a flight so don't know about the crowds and customs processing and the time necessary to make flight. Will a 148pm departure be ok to book and make on time? Thanks in advance for your help.

  3. We have sailed on both the STAR and the Spirit in one of the aft suites. For 2015 we booked one of the 2 bedroom suites for the Baltic cruise. I am not sure which cruise you are looking at but most of the Northern Europe cruises seem very port intensive. That combined with most likely cooler weather, and the trip may not have much to do with using the pool. Just something to think about.

One of the real perks is the priority disembarkation. We used this on our Med cruise and the private tour companies were pleased we met them so early. Ahead of the crowds! First to the Acropolis in Athens and the Coliseum in Rome. Breakfast at Cagney's was great. As others have said, the cabins themselves are great.

We booked the August 19, 2015 sailing. Plan to spend a week/10 days in England and Ireland before. We chose this time as we want to visit Buckingham Palace and August/sept is usually when the Queen opens it up to the public. We plan on forming private tours as we did on the Spirit. Come join us! Whatever you decide, have a great cruise!

Looking at the May 11, 2015 Baltics, and good point about the weather and the

pool. I know about the size of the Star as I have been on the Dawn. I prefer this size ship over the Epic and other mega ships.

  4. That is the question. Interested in booking one of Star's recently released 2105 European itineraries. The suite prices look terrific as of now. Having just recently returned from my Epic transatlantic in the Haven suites, I'm trying to decide if the suites on the Star will be worth it. It is a completely different experience as there is no Haven complex on Star. Besides what I already know about the Suite experience, what is the benefit of being in suites on Star? No private pool, no private dining areas or controlled access. I love NCL and their suites but I 'm thinking that these suites will fall far short of what I recently experienced. Can you help me expand my thinking and help me make my decision?

  5. On the Epic what shows do I need to sign up for 45 days out?

If your question is which shows are you able to book in advance, the following 4 come to mind.....

    1. Blue Man Group

    2. Second City Comedy

    3. Cirque Dreams show/dinner

    4. Legends in concert....3 performers now are Steven Tyler, Katie Perry and Elvis

    Hope this helps...Enjoy!

  6. Hi all,

So I'm making a return voyage on the Epic in January for my bday, and had a few questions re: some of the extras.I was aware of them on my cruise in May,but being a port intensive cruise,I was more focused on the itinerary. I figured if I liked the ship well enough,I would do the Caribbean voyage-which clearly I did!

My objective this time is purely to relax and unwind and indulge in the ship, and with 3,possibly 4 sea days,I figure I'll have enough time to do just that!( I do plan to get off in St Maarten and St Thomas, but its my third swing through Nassau, and its unlikely I'll get off other than to stop at Senor Frogs).

    My questions are:

1.I'm planning on buying the spa pass(actually its going to be a gift from someone) as I had a day pass in May and LOVED it. However,I'm also considering the Posh pass, since $60 for the week doesnt sound bad...but I hear they sell out quickly. How early would one recommend getting to port to check in early enough to be in Group 1 to get on board? Is it likely that Posh sells out before spa or vice versa? (On my cruise, they were promoting the spa pass practically every day,so I'm thinking I may have time, but maybe it sells out quicker on the Caribbean...?)

2.Also,I remember reading in a few reviews-namely Lara's,I think-about the sundeck on deck 18 having the same padded loungers as Posh-can anyone confirm or deny? If so,how comparable is this area to Posh?

3.I've called NCL to inquire about these two passes and whether I could prepurchase(cant),and was told that Posh pass is NOT good for embarkation day.Is this new??? True??

3.If one has purchased the UBP,can you use it at Posh?

4.Speaking of which,I have read the tome on here re:this pass, and not looking to add to it here, but had a couple questions that werent answered in the 21 page thread(thus far)...are the included martinis based on price or # of ingredients? Also,if I prepurchase,is there a separate line to get the sticker or has anyone had it ready to go once they checked in? Finally, does it included the martini/margarita tasting clinics?

5.Some shows I didn't get to last time(or werent on the Med cruise)-Cirque Dreams..how long does it last?

    Second City-same question

    Murder Mystery-how much is it?

6.Finally,(and this is a long shot) I read a review that went into detail about the Chefs Table, and it sounded pretty good-I'm not 100% on this splurge but considering it...how much is it and how quickly does it sell out? Any other feedback on this?

Thanks for any/all info...trying to plot out which evenings I'm doing what.I'm not trying to uber plan it,but just want to have an idea what nights are good to fit what in. I kept playing it by ear in May and it worked out but I kept putting off Cirque,so I want to make sure I fit that in this round:)

I can answer a few of your questions. I just got off the Epic Transatlantic less than two weeks ago so these are fairly up-to-date.

1.POSH passes were purchased at the pier in Barcelona. I think they were about $8 per day. Fellow passengers we spoke to gave us the info on that. We were surprised to see them in POSH as we were Haven pax so that was cleared up.

    2. Cirque Dreams lasts a bit more than an hour. Good show and good meal and it is the same menu for everyone. It was entertaining but am told that if you are a Cirque de Soleil fan you will be unimpressed. Obviously you can't duplicate that show in a tiny theatre on a pitching ship. See it anyway. It was fun!

    3. Second city was a 45 minute show. That left me unimpressed but maybe I hit it on a bad night. Try it anyway. It doesn't cost anything.

    4. Chefs Table...DO IT!!!!! Chef Kevin is terrific and is obviously passionate about his art. Wonderful food, great wine that does not stop pouring, fun opportunity to get to know some of your fellow passengers. It cost us $89 each on the crossing. It also included 2 pics taken by the ship photographer....one of you and your spouse/partner with chef Kevin and one with the group you shared you meal with. We were also given a galley tour a few days later that was both fun and interesting...

    5. Deck 18 forward is a sundeck for all ship passengers and it does have the same padded furniture that we had in POSH.

Hope this helps you. Look to others for the answers you seek. And also keep in mind that these answers were based on the Transatlantic voyage. They do things differently on this one because of all the time we had. Use it as a guideline only.

    But Enjoy! It's your vacation.

  7. Do I have to pre-book this if in a Haven Suite or can I have the concierge do it?

You can pre-book it.....or let the concierge desk handle it. Your call. Just got off the Epic Transatlantic in 2 BR family suite and it was amazing.

    Enjoy!

    BTW.....I am originally from Northport..

  8. Thanks!

Is there enough room for 3 people's clothes to fit in the 2nd BR closet?

Or are there drawers anywhere to use for clothing storage?

If you pack it tight you should have no problem. There is also a set of 3 or 4 large size drawers in that room too.

In this suite there is actually a tremendous amount of storage space. Side tables in LR provide enclosed storage too. Extra drawers and cabinets under bar area, extra storage drawers in master BR where the safe is located. You shoud be ok, especially if some in room are kids......just have to be a bit creative.

  9. Just got off the Epic on Saturday and stayed in S4 family suite. There isn't a tremendous amount of room for luggage in that room. You can store one or two under the vanity/mirror in that room as there is not a chair there. There are two standing closets side by side, the one against the wall is a bit deeper than its partner. There is not a door but curtains instead to close them off so there is a bit more give to your situation. The closets in the master BR are larger and can store a few pcs of luggage there depending on the size, as well as underneath the bed so consider that too. We had no problems but there was only two of us.

Hope this helps....and hope you get Leo as your butler. He is awesome. We were in suite 17029

  10. I wish you good luck on surprising your husband. My partner tried to do the same but he couldn't stand the pressure. He told me he upgraded us to the 2BR family suite on Epic transatlantic just 2 weeks before we departed. We just returned this past Saturday and it was amazing.

BTW, we were in suite 17029 and our butler was Leo. If you are fortunate

enough to have Leo as your butler you are going to be in for a treat. The man is a gem! He was constantly aiming to please but best of all his human character was wonderful. Such a terrific person. NCL is lucky to have him and I hope you are too.

    Enjoy! We sure did.

  11. Cabin 6340 on RCCL Freedom OTS is a terriffic cabin. It is one of the "hump" balcony rooms on the Freedom class ships. 6340 is situated at the apex of the hump allowing awesome views of the ship fore and aft, especially as she is sailing along. Very quiet too as there is nothing below the cabin as she "juts out" off the side of the ship and just another stateroom above. Another bonus is she is just one deck above and at the begining of the aft end of the Royal Promade. Would book this cabin again in a heartbeat.
