  1. Never been on Carnival. My niece is going on a cruise in February and I would like to gift her some "cruise cash". I notice I can select regular cruise cash which it says can be used for anything, or "cruise cash bar" which can be used at any bar. My question, can the regular cruise cash also be used at a bar? Not clear to me why they would have a separate one just for bar purchases. I want ensure she has the flexibility to use it at a bar, or for tips, or specialty dining, or whatever she wants.

    TIA.

  2. May I ask what was your great price and how did you obtain it? I’ve been pricing up hotels in the Fisherman’s Wharf area for this August and most are very expensive (starting at $300 - $400 per night, and that’s at the less expensive end :o). We’re looking to stay for 2 nights and need a 2 double room (travelling with kids).

We paid $189 per night including breakfast each morning. I checked rates very often - weekly or more. I booked, cancelled and rebooked a number of times as rates were extremely volatile. Once you get a rate you can accept, book it but don’t stop looking.

  3. Thanks for your review. We did the Hawaii cruise on the Grand in November, so I know what you mean. We are returning to the Grand in March for the Mexican riviera so we know what to expect. She’s old and has issues. Did you see the duct tape around the ladder in the aft pool. [emoji47]Your comments though about first time cruisers are bang on!

Also I did read the Grand is being sold in 2019.

  4. I would go for the sunset veranda on deck 6 in a heart beat. We've stayed in that area before and have had absolutely no noise from the Tuscan Grill below.

Your view of the wake will not be obstructed ... plus, due to the ship's design (always refer to it as something akin to a platypus) you will look out to see the wake ... not straight down anyway. Even on deck 7, if you looked straight down, you would see deck 6 balconies. The larger balcony on deck 6 is a definite plus.

The only thing about aft cabins is there is sometimes some vibration. It doesn't bother us at all ... but some people don't like it. Also, since there are no aft stairs or elevators, you have to go midship to get up or down to another deck. Again, this doesn't bother us in the very least. We think deck 6 is a perfect location and usually try to get an aft cabin there.

PS ... we just celebrated our 25th anniversary on the Equinox. They went out of their way to make it very special for us. We love that ship!!

  5. We were in a similar situation, though with a noon flight. We walked off the ship before 8 am (first off), got a private cab (no sharing, no waiting), and with traffic got to the airport at about 9:40. We were fine. But traffic is very heavy.

  6. One of our cruises turns out to save us C$800 with the Anniversary sale. Compare to 3ForFree. However, we have a Premium Deluxe Balcony, and the was no lowest stateroom price benefit. So even adding back in Gratuities and subtracting the extra OBC. We can out ahead. It is a longer cruise ( 27 days, TA and British Isles, April 16, 18).

Not sure if I understand ...? We also have a deluxe balcony which I think is sold out. But a regular balcony is available and about $1000 less. I didn’t think they would give you any reprice if your category was sold out But it might be worth a call I guess.

  7. Dawn Princess to the Caribbean in 1997. I remember flying to San Juan and seeing huge white ships [emoji568]. My husband and I said oh boy maybe some day we can go on one of those (1997 was pre widely available internet so we had seen some pictures but really didn’t know what to expect). Imagine our excitement when our cab took us to one of those huge white ships ! I cried when I boarded and saw the atrium. A feeling I will never forget.

  9. We're planning to do our own beach day at Waikiki by taking "The Bus" (Honolulu's bus system) to the beach and back for a grand total of $5.00 per person. That way we'll have plenty left to rent an umbrella or get some Hula pie at Duke's!

Agreed! We are looking forward to a DIY day. Our only other time in Honolulu we did the Pearl Harbour ships excursion. So much wasted time waiting on others. We went to Waikiki in the afternoon but had only about 50 minutes. ☹️ I vowed if fortunate to return to enjoy the beach, drinks at Dukes, etc etc.
