  1. Bww... I think I read your review on the Greece board. I've actually contacted Nautilus and they responded that they were available! I emailed back to try to book but have not heard back yet. Fingers crossed that they are just busy. The kids are super excited about spending the day on the boat, and I'm excited about lunch. Hopefully Miss Vanessa responds back tomorrow!

  2. Are you going on the PG? We cruised the PG last Feb, easily took a taxi from the airport to the ship. Cost about $35, and yes they accept USD! Time is about 10 minutes from the airport. Lots of taxis available.

We arrived late and did not have time to check out the cruise terminal area, but I'm thinking there is more available to do at that location rather than the airport.

Enjoy!! The PG was a fantastic trip!

  3. We made it to Barbados and are already (sadly) back home. Our day was spent on the Shasa catamaran excursion, so I don't really have photos in the way of scenery, but this was one of my favorite from the day. Jason (of Shasa) sailed us to our sites (snorkeling and turtles) and we had a fabulous day!!

Here's one of my daughter enjoying her day in the water!

  4. Aplmac! I'm down to 3 days to departure!!! I just want to confirm my watertaxi stops in St. Maarten....

What stops do we stop at for Segway (the guys will segway while we shop)? Guavaberry? Camera Shop? I tried reading back thru the thread, but I got my stops confused... so I thought I'd just ask! I've printed your pictures and have them in my file to take with me.

How has your weather been? My husband tells me that when I see "showers" that it is normal and that it just means that there might be a quick shower during the day. Here "showers" usually means a really yucky day.

My daughter is here and has asked me to ask you if you have any other shops that you really like that we shouldn't miss!? (She's on the lookout for a lesser expensive necklace... her own money so probably something more local/touristy).

Thanks again for all the info you gave me (and others) over these few months that I've been researching. I don't know if you know just how much you have helped us in our planning. My husband is even referring to you as "My wife's friend in Barbados says" when he talks to people about what we are planning.:)

  5. I used to do that! My husband laughed at my sub, sub, sub folders! But is all worked for me and made perfect sense. Now I use iPhoto and am really pleased with it. Not as easy to access photos though for something like photoshop. The only way I can easily access the pics is to put them in a folder on the desktop and play with them that way. I was having trouble with iPhoto recently and called for help, when I told them the size of my library (>30K pics!) they said "Ahhh...that is your problem!". I started a new library and it is all working better. I have everything on there from when I went digital.... I really think I need to weed out! :)

  6. Yeaahh I'm a doll  --you need to talk with my wife! :D :D

Glad you liked the pics so far

but these "Post your memorable ISLAND PICS HERE" threads I start up

are for everyone to post their photos...not just me.

so I'm hoping to see others chime right in.

I remember thinking the St.Maarten thread wasn't working

and then Good Grief it took off like crazy

    - and now it's had so much participation...like 115+ Replies and thousands of Views!

    You just never know...

    .

2 months!! I can't wait to bring some of my own home to share too!!:)

  7. We never take the normal cameras off the ship at SXM since it is always a beach day for us. These pics were done with the Olympus waterproof camera (720) , an armored waterproof, shockproof camera. Not the best pics but great at the beach.

My husband purchased a camera like that last year... we've really enjoyed it! We saw someone with an underwater video last year when we were in the Bahamas and it just looked really fun. He took it to Sequoia National Park this year when we visited and got some really fun pictures and video on the trails as well as in the rivers. Love the indestructability!:D

  8. Alpmac- I love your shots and always look forward to viewing them- keep them coming. I remember you mentioned that you had just purchased your lens while on your trip. I'm assuming it was in one of the St. Maarten port camera shops. I bought a nice inexpensive digital at the shop on the pier and got a great price. I was wondering if you know if the Nikon D90 was sold there. I'm going there next year and thinking about picking one up while there, but I'm a bit nervous about shelling out a large amount at a foriegn port.

p.s I have no idea how the thumbs down post ended up on my post- your pics get a thumbs up!

OOHHH!!! Purchased lens while on the trip?? Is there another store I must visit!!???!!!:D

  9. Thanks! Actually, the macro is really appealing. My husband doesn't see why I need to take pictures of bees on flowers, but I just can't resist! I didn't actually realize that you are right, it does basically replace what I have. Will have to ponder this.... The reviews got me excited when they talked about the sharpness, my 18-55, while I'm very pleased with it, is not always the sharpest. I'm not sure if that is me or the lens though!:o I was doing so well with my pics, then I tried to learn more and went much more manual and for a few months I couldn't get a good shot! (Kind of like after I had a golf lesson...). I'm back on the upswing though, and I'm really happy with my pictures. I just can't seem to help wanting more.

OK... would you really not get it or did my husband call you and say to say that???;):D

  10. Aplmac... I just looked at this lens on Amazon... what do you think? (I have a Canon XSI)

Got pretty good reviews, but I've never used Sigma, don't know much about it. I love tack sharp photos and currently only have the kit lens(18-55 IS) and a 55-250 IS Zoom. I've never used or researched a wide angle either...

    Happy Birthday to me???:D

Sigma Zoom Super Wide Angle AF 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras

  11. Oh!!! I found the site for the Guavaberry Emporium that you posted the pic of! I think this is a must visit on our shopping day. I've already picked out a Guavaberry Chipotle Hot Sauce, and I'm thinking I must try the liquor.:D What I couldn't find is if you can actually eat a guavaberry? Sounded like no, that it is only an ingredient used in other products, not like somthing in a fruit salad. I love to cook, and we frequently eat spicy foods, so the products looked fantastic! Looks like some of them are only available on the island.... sooooo, I'm thinking an extra bag might be in order!

My husband says again for me to stop reading this thread!!!:D

  12. Aplmac, Thanks for the photos... you are bringing our future cruise to life! Our entire family (especially my 10 year old daughter) have really enjoyed the shots.

Love the shots of the water taxi, now I know what to look for. Your pictures have been so helpful to us. I love having threads on the best photos, it easily shows the most beautiful places!:)

  13. It is a close call between Clo O'Connor and Bobby Brown, but we have had any number of good CDs. Most have been at least acceptable and only a few that I felt were irritating. Their duties extend well beyond appearing onstage every evening to introduce the entertainers or to take part in some of the audience participation activities, so judging them solely on their stage presence or apparent rapport with the guests is probably unfair. :)

I've got a silly question here, but I've never been on a cruise before, so what exactly are the Cruise Director's duties?? From all these posts it sounds like most of these guys really get to know a lot of people, how do they have time for that??

    Thanks!
