I’m still a little confused about tips. We always give our state room attendant a nice tip before we leave the ship if we are pleased with the service.  Sometimes at the beginning and middle part of the cruise too if they do something special for us. They always accept our tips with a big smile and a thank you.  My question is do they get to keep the tips we give them for themselves or do they have to turn it into a tip fund for the whole crew?

If you paid your dsc they put the cash in their pocket.

If the dsc has been removed the cash is to be pooled.

I've booked my first NCL back-to-back in 2024 (Boston-Quebec-Boston).  For purposes of this thread, let's assume Covid is all in the rearview mirror at that point.  I've booked the same stateroom on both legs.  Am I able to just leave my luggage in the room?  Do I need to coordinate with the room attendant?  Do I need to get off the ship or can I just loiter in the public areas?  Any other pointers or advice?  Thanks.

You will get a new key card and in ( In Transit ) sticker , to bypass the long line of new passengers.

Does anyone know why the Gem is about $700 a person more than the Breakaway or Joy for a Cruise to New England. I have checked the Club Balcony Suites for all and that is what it looks like.  The Gem on 10/15/21 out of Boston is $2049. The Joy out of NYC on 10/2/21 is $1279 and the Breakaway out of NYC on 10/17/21 is $1329.

    Apples & Oranges
Gem = one way cruise up the St Lawrence seaway ending in Quebec City.

Joy = N.Y.  To N.Y. with a couple of stop on the Canadian coast.

DM75, DD22 & I  are cruising both the UK & an Eastern Europe itinerary in June 2022. (since our Med cruise was cancelled this June for DD's college graduation)

    17 days total.

An OV is $400 more each for the 17 days.  (so $1200 total) 17 more sq. ft.

We are active cruisers who spend little time in our room; there are also only 2 sea days total over the 17 days.

We did find our interior on the Breakaway the most cozy room we have ever stayed in (and there were 2 of us)

We are not getting the Free at Sea--it would run us $1300 more total. DM doesn't drink much & as port intensive as it is, we didn't think we could justify the extra cost.

DM often arises before us, gets ready & heads up for coffee & walks around.

I realize that only we can determine if the cost is worth it.

Can anyone share personal experience with 3 adults in an interior or can compare to OV size?

(our YA kids have done INT together on other lines but they weren't QUITE as cozy)

I am thinking of getting the thermal suite pass for our week on the dawn. Being it’s a smaller ship is it worth getting the passes? Never have gotten passes before on our previous cruises on the bigger ships so i don’t have anything to compare it to but just want to make sure it’s worth spending the extra money

18+ only is a big selling point to me.

No kids seals the deal for us.

I happen to really like inside cabins.  I do get the- oh poor you- settled and can’t afford a balcony- better than nothing I suppose. 😩😀😀😀.      But don’t make the assumption that inside choices are due to budget-  not related- being 2 separate components.   I’m leaving for cruise # 17 - this year,  tomorrow-  so Not always the case.

    I’m like you!

Most of our 28 cruises, have been inside GTY’s.

Not much to see @ sea after dark anyways.

what other negatives do you see about dawn. I've only been on BA so any comparisons to that id know first hand.

Dawn has consistently had sewage problems.

And what irks me, is after numerous makeovers there are still dirty pop out ashtrays in the deck 4 corridors.

I do believe smoking in the halls stopped a decade ago.
