Very nice captures!

Bruce, Indeed the 100mm. The L version nonetheless. I couldn't resist, I mean they didn't have the non-L in stock. :D
I have a lot to learn, but it is loads of fun.

Nice!

And, I nice big moon.

Nice job Larry! A really nice mon shot. I wanted to ask you about that great acorn shot you posted recently. You stated it was taken with your new macro lens. Was that lens the Canon 100mm ?

It was a BEAUTIFUL day today in coastal Virginia. Here is a picture taken at the Bethel Beach near Mathews VA:
Beautiful photos!

I went another route with our fair and photographed some in black and white. There was also an air show at the time. I only have a Nikon P80. No fancy lens or anything so mine aren't quite so spectacular.
Really nice photos! The B+W is really nice.

Nice images Dodger!
We actually missed the fair this year for the first time in many. Kind of ironic that I spent the week in the hospital with panceantitis instead of being a fair go'er. It could have been that wild anticipation for cheese curds I get every year! We'll make up for it next. Nice pic's.Sorry to hear about your health issue highflyingrealtor. For the first time ever my wife did not want any cheese curds the night we went, which I thought was odd. Well, the next day she displays some regret with that decision, so I jumped in the car and headed to the fair to get her some, and it also gave me the oportunity to get some more photos.

The fair ends tomorrow, which brings the unofficial end of summer in Minnesota.

Thanks Dave and Debathome for the changing color photos. I just love watching the the trees change, but I don't really like what follows.
Born and raised in Michigan - now live in the desert in Texas. That's the one thing I miss. Hopefully the leaves will be changing when we go to Minneapolis the 2nd week of October. You will definitely see some colors. You might even be here around peak color. These are from the second week of October.

Dave and TheRoff, thanks for the comments!
TheRoff, that's a great thread. That is my only post in it,but I have thought about bringing a ducky with me when I travel but never have.
What your screen name over there?
Never mind. I just did a search and see you use the same name over there.

I was at the Minnesota State Fair today, along with about 200,000 others.

All kinds of great photos by everyone on this thread!

The only thing louder than them would be our perennial cicadas...those little things can really let rip!
It's been a constant very loud buzz around here lately.

Since we seem to be into critters, a tree frog in our corn patch. This is a young one, about
3/4" long. Adults are only about 1 12" but they are the loudest frogs you can imagine.
Great image! I fall asleep to these in Jamaica!

Here are some of my typical Florida backyard critters from the past few weekends:
I really like the last two!

We only use point and shoot cameras so this might be way out of our range. I would like to get some tips about lighting, posing, etc but maybe we should look elsewhere for that?
There were about 20 on our excursion with Ronnie and the majority were using point and shoots so don't let that stop you. It's a nice tour and Ronnie is a very nice gentleman who will give you some basic tips that you will use in the future. You might get some lighting tips but probably not much help with posing . You will definitely learn some interesting things about Barbados. My wife went with me on this tour and did not take one photo but still enjoyed herself
A question for those that may have taken this tour and that is did they offer this tour as one of the first tours in the morning? Hopefully there is someone that took this on a Princess voyage and even more importantly was this a morning tour.I took this tour in January while on the Caribbean Princess. It is a morning tour, but if you are wondering because you want to take advantage of the early light,it's not that early. I think we left at 9:00 am and probably did not take our first photo for another 20 minutes. Because of the time of day it was not an ideal tour for landscape shots except for when we were near the ocean. I have found that shots of the Caribbean waters are actually better in the later morning because the high sun brings out the blues in the water.

Picking berries in the summertime.
I love this photo! I would suggest though to get rid of the time and date stamps from your photos.

Does anybody have his web site? The tour is not offered on our Victory cruise so I am hoping we can book it ourselves. Thanks!

We enjoyed ourselves on this tour in January. It's the only tour I have ever done through a cruise line and found it to be worth the money. You will really only get the most basic photography tips but you will see some interesting locations and you will learn quite a bit about Barbados history and it's culture.
Here's Ronnie and my favorite photo from that tour.

Hello,
This is my first post in this forum. I have been reading you guys for months. Such talent!!! Most of the photos on this thread are amazing. Work that could be sold. I have mucho respect for the camera peeps.
With that being said, I just upgraded to a Cannon SX20. I got out and played with my camera. I am leaving on an Alaska trip next week. I know I need to play a lot more before then. I have a photo tour booked in Seattle pre-cruise, so I'm hoping they can give me some pointers. I did buy the book, so that's a start, but I will shoot, shoot, shoot between now and the time I board the ship.
Cheryl :)
That's looks like a really nice camera. The 28mm-560mm range will cover pretty much every range you need. The camera is just the tool though, it's all up to you whether or not your results are to your liking. It's fine to practice by shooting ,shooting and shooting some more to learn how to use your camera's modes but please don't do that while on your vacation. If people spent more time thinking about the composition and lighting they could shoot 50%- 70% less photos and more quality images than if they just shoot, shoot and shoot. I talk to people on vacation that take thousands of photos and my question to them is do you really want to spend time going through all those photos and what do you do with them after that. Enjoy your vacation and don't let that camera get in the way, because in the end the most memorable images will be in your head, not in a photo.
You are going to have a great vacation and we will be looking forward to seeing the photos.

Me too!!!! I was lucky enough to get access to the Hollywood sign, which is normally closed to the general public. It was awesome. Now if I can add them in the proper order.
That's a great opportunity! Nice photos.

Do you do that on Photoshop?
I use Corel Paint Shop Pro, but I would think most processing software would have a borders option.
I got out and used my camera today...
