  1. There are additional recommendations:

Key Information for Cruise Ship Travelers

    • The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads easily between people in close quarters aboard ships, and the chance of getting COVID-19 on cruise ships is high. Outbreaks of COVID-19 have been reported on cruise ships.
    • CDC recommends that people who are not fully vaccinated avoid travel on cruise ships, including river cruises, worldwide.
    • People with an increased risk of severe illness should also avoid travel on cruise ships, including river cruises, regardless of vaccination status.
    • People who decide to go on a cruise should get tested 1–3 days before their trip and 3–5 days after their trip, regardless of vaccination status.
    • Along with testing, passengers who are not fully vaccinated should self-quarantine for 7 days after cruise travel, even if they test negative. If they do not get tested, they should self-quarantine for 10 days after cruise travel.
    • People on cruise ships should wear a mask to keep their nose and mouth covered when in shared spaces. While CDC’s Mask Order is not being enforced on cruise ships, individual cruise lines may require travelers (passengers and crew) to wear masks indoors on board the ship.

  2. She is thoroughly enjoying the publicity and is parading around with a T-shirt proudly proclaiming "Karen Of The Sea".   Royal released a statement today but they only quote part of it in this news report. "Once this was recognized, we immediately made the guests aware and tested them on board. This test generated a positive result for COVID-19 which immediately activated our health and safety protocols."  So we still don't know how she managed to evade testing at the port prior to embarkation.    https://abc7ny.com/laura-angelo-royal-caribbean-viral-video-positive-covid-test/10889651/

I put this out there for people to know thinking I would be helping some.  I can't help what information they do and don't put in their email.  I would think most people would know that a dentist, a veterinarian, psychologist etc could not signed the paper.  I am a licensed medical person who has a state and national license.  However, I can not sign those types of letters/notes.

Please don't pay attention to the trolls - that's what they want.  Everyone knows that the person signing the form has to be either a physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner.    I certainly appreciate your sharing the information.

Thank you. I asked because they referred to an "easy to complete form", which I understood to mean they were providing the form. If they don't provide a standard form, they are going to get a vast variety of letter formats. I hope they don't try to say "but it doesn't specifically say XYZ" and deny boarding based on the judgement of the specific individual who reviews the form at the time of check-in at the port.

Just received this email from Norwegian

    Dear Valued Guest,

To help ensure the safety and well-being of all guests and crew worldwide, effective immediately, all guests who are 70 years of age and older must provide a Certificate of Medical Fitness to Travel form prior to embarkation.

This easy-to-complete form must be signed by a licensed medical professional and be dated no more than seven days prior to the date of embarkation or seven days prior to the start of a guest's travels if the guest is traveling for more than seven days before a voyage.

Ginny L:   Are you able to post the form that must be completed?   Did they include it as an attachment with the email or does NCL have to be contacted separately?

    Thank you.

  6. Breaking News per David Begnaud (CBS News):  Sam Anello, the Indiana grandpa charged with negligent homicide after his granddaughter fell from his hands aboard a cruise ship in Puerto Rico will plead guilty in a deal offered by prosecutors. Deal: no jail time, no admission to the facts, probation served in Indiana.

  7. Anello has opted for a bench trial. Also his attorney stated that they will not be using an expert to reconstruct the accident scene and they would not be calling upon a physician to discuss his color-blindness.   The prosecution stated they would call witnesses, but did not specify how many.

  8. Unfortunately, there are very few options for wheelchair accessible transportation in Puerto Rico and it is not inexpensive.  We have used Adames Transportation (most recently in 2018)

    http://www.adamesluxurytransp.com/vehicles.html     and also Rico SunTours  (in 2014 & 2015) http://rstpuertorico.com/#services

However, both times we used them for private tours and not just for airport / cruiseport transfers.   They both had vehicles with lifts and wheelchair tiedowns.

You may find other options discussed in this blog.   https://www.curbfreewithcorylee.com/2014/07/31/wheelchair-accessible-san-juan/

  9. There are portable commodes with drop-down arms that might work. However, these are usually not the type provided by the cruise line and you would have to rent it from the specific cruise-line approved vendor (eg Scootaround, Special Needs at Sea).

  10. This morning on CBS: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cruise-ship-death-video-shows-moments-before-toddler-chloe-wiegand-falls/

"The video shows what appears to be 18-month-old Chloe cross over to the side of the ship and stand in front of a bank of windows. A man attorneys said is Anello is seen following her. There was a railing about a foot from the windows, Michael Winkleman, the Wiegand family's attorney said. The surveillance video appears to show Anello look over the railing for one second. He then reaches down, picks Chloe up and appears to hold her over the railing. Winkleman said Anello didn't realize there was no glass directly in front of him. Within five seconds Chloe falls more than 100 feet below.

"She's sitting on the wooden banister, why did he then lean forward with her?" Begnaud asked Winkleman.

"I think it's pretty obvious why they leaned forward, and that would be so that you could get a better view," Winkleman said. "What do you say to the fact that he raised her and put her on this banister which the cruise line might argue was not meant for young children to be sitting on?" Begnaud asked. "If that was the case and they want no one to sit on it, they should say no one should sit on it. … There's no sign that says that. There's no warning, no nothing," Winkleman said."

I don't believe it is up to RCCL to share it.  Since there was a death, it is up to the police department and if I remember correctly, they declined to let the parents see it.

Yes, RCL provided the video to the police. The prosecutor's office has the video and they did offer the family & a lawyer (don't think it was the maritime lawyer) the opportunity to view it at some point in the summer (during the investigation and before they stated in Aug that charges would be filed), but the family declined. Now that charges have been filed, their attorneys will have access to the video from the prosecutor's office during the discovery process.

I seriously doubt they would hire a maritime lawyer for the Grandfather; it would be a regular criminal attorney.

The attorney said they do exclusively civil litigation & maritime law.  One of the (unseen) reporters asked very good questions.
