  1. this picture pretty much illustrates 2 of my questions about hmc...

    ry%3D480

first - i see the little buoy / rope 'barrier' thingy in the water... are you not allowed to swim out past that? it really doesn't look to be terribly far out, and i assume the water's pretty shallow, even at the buoy line...

what if i wanted to out further, or swim in a non-buoyed area? is that allowed - and thereby that little line just kinda a guideline - maybe for kids?

next - i like to walk on the beach... long walks on the beach... is there a similar 'barrier' on the beach, restricting access at a certain point? or if, for instance, i wanted to walk all the way down the 'crescent' - say, to the far left / top part of this picture, is that allowed? :)

lastly... i haven't seen a single sand castle in any of the pics of HMC i've ever seen... is that because the sand's too fine to work for this... or just because there are no sand castle type equipment (buckets, shovels) on the island? i'm all grown up, but i still love making a mean sand castle every now and then :D

  2. What a refreshing thread. Interesting, informative and zero bickering! Good job guys. I hope we can keep this thread going with more history.

i agree entirely... this one is kinda 'special', if you ask me ;)

and i can't wait to see the final resolution. go mrbassman! :D

  3. I have no idea where those photos went from that cruise. If I run into them, I will post them.

I remember the itinerary. San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Dominica, Barbados and Martinique. Perfect weather the whole cruise.

sounds like a pretty great room, especially at that time, on a ship of its size! if you do find the pics, please do post.

and that sounds like a killer itinerary! :D

  4. This brings back memories. I sailed on the Festivale over 20 years ago - my first cruise and all by myself. I'll have to check my albums to see what I've got.

that'd be awesome - if you have any, i'd love to see them too! it's a pretty neat glimpse into cruising history, from a first hand perspective... not to mention possibly a help to the op! :)

  5. Falkcor - Thank you for the info. It is very much appreciated. I'll post photos of the ship on the pond sailing once again in all her glory as a model and as a tribute to the real Festivale and also to the original builder who I'm sure will be looking down from Heaven and smiling in approval.

great, i'd love to see it - that's a fine looking ship you've got there! :D

  6. mrbassman -

    check out this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=381663

it's about 80 posts of people who have cruised on festivale - i think that would be a FINE place to ask questions.

user 'just having fun' posted a few pics, on or about the 3rd page, including of the pool area with some interesting details like the slide.

check photos here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=11485081&postcount=51 and here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=11487069&postcount=53

also, i don't recognize all of the users there as current cc 'regulars' - at least not on the carnival board, but i do some of them, such as cotton, who still come around.

    hope that helps!

  7. I thought it might be helpful to anybody researching and planning their next stop in Grand Cayman, to post the port map, shopping guide and full shore excursions list with prices to this board. These are for Carnival, but the shopping area surely is the same for any visitors, and similar excursions are available via other cruise lines or private operators.

I also posted a pretty comprehensive review of my experience in Grand Cayman (Stingray City & Snorkeling with Moby Dick) in my review. Here’s a link with the correct starting page for the Ocho Rios section:

    http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=857024&page=4

It has been a while, granted, but to my knowledge - not much has changed in this regard. I’ll post the pics right after the jump. Hope this helps someone out!

  8. There's one at funship island too. I downloaded that and made it my message alert on my blackberry. I also made an entire theme for my blackberry using the wallpapers you can download from funship island.

where the heck do you download stuff? i've been all over the darn ship tour and shore on funship island and can't find it
