  1. We are thinking of the Random Wind with our family group of 14 (8 adults and 6 kids). We are on the Oasis and this cruise is to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday.

I am just wondering how to get that many people back and forth to the cruise ship. The email I got from Di says a 7-10 minute walk or a quick water taxi. The idea of finding regular taxis for 14 people both ways seems like too much stress.

Does the walk or the water taxi make sense? Is it really just a 7-10 minute walk? How far is the walk to the water taxi from the ship, and then how far from the water taxi to where they said they will meet us in Phillipsburg?

    Thanks for your help.

  2. I am the OP and still wondering if this show would interest my grandchildren ages 8-13.

With so many options on the Oasis, I would hate for them to be bored by a show, but wouldn't want them to miss it if the majority opinion is that they would enjoy it.

  3. We are going on Oasis next month with our family of 8 adults and 6 children. I have heard that the Cats show is not very good and people were leaving at intermission. Also that it was 2 1/2 hours long - huh?

Can't imagine the kids (ages 8-13) sitting through that. We already have our reservations, but should we just skip it?

  4. We are going on a BTB holy land and TA on the Silhouette in October. Total of 29 days. I cannot imagine taking enough undies and t shirts, etc for 29 days so I plan to use the bag stuff deal.

Someone just told me they don't always have it. That would be a disaster for me to find out once onboard with not enough clothes!

I would love to be sure that they will have it on at least one of those 2 cruises. Anyone with knowledge of this, please help!

  5. We are going on BTB cruise in October - 14 day holy land and eastern med and then transatlantic so 29 days all together.

It's still a long way off but I am starting to wonder how much I need to pack. I know they have no guest laundry (Celebrity) but plan on using the "stuff a bag" for undies and t shirts.

My DH says one suitcase and one carry on per person - so looking for suggestions from folks who have done long cruises.

    Thanks

  6. Lordy..just have "meet up" times..no micro-managing...no carrying around devices..you are making this too complicated!

Of course we will get together for dinner and have reservations for all the shows. But this is a cruise we are doing for my DH 70th birthday with our 3 children and spouses and 6 grandchildren. The whole point is we want to watch them go zip lining and surfing and rock climbing and everything. We don't want to just hear about it at dinner.

What I mean by micromanaging is no one wants to be told where to be and what to do when for a week. If they decide to do activities we want to be there. With 3 families of grandchildren it would be impossible to know in advance what everyone is doing. That is why we need the ability to be called when stuff is going on.

  7. Can anyone tell me the best walkie talkies to use on the Oasis. Please no flaming! I know people don't like them. We are trying to decide between walkie talkies and an internet app for our family cruise in July. There are 14 of us and we want to be able to find each other without trying to micromanage everyone as to where and when to meet all day.

Thank you for any help you can give us.

  8. I am looking for suggestions for our family cruise (grandparents, three children and their spouses and 6 grandchildren ages 8-13 on our July cruise in celebration of my husband's 70th birthday.

We are paying for everything on this cruise and want to enjoy seeing our children and grandchildren participate in some of the activities, We don't want to move in lock step and want everyone to enjoy in their own way, however if our kids and grands are doing flowrider or ziplining, etc. we want to be there. That is our main reason for this cruise.

We did this once before and used walkie talkies which did not always work but better than nothing. The idea of sticky notes or whiteboard on cabin doors doesn't make much sense to me because I don't expect everyone to go back to their cabin to leave a note every time they want to do something. Also we would have to constantly be checking on cabin doors (7 cabins).

We of course will have dinner together (one table for the 8 adults and a table for the 6 grands next to it) and have made all the show reservations together, but wondering how to keep in touch during the day.

    Would appreciate anyone's suggestions.

  9. Can I ask how you will be dinning with such a large group? I will be cruising on the Oasis in Aprit 2016 with a group of 14. We have all MTD. I just hope we can be seated together at the same time without a long wait. We booked through at TA if that makes a difference. Please consider doing a review when returning. I can’t find a lot dealing with large parties.

We are a family of 2 grandparents, 6 adults (3 children and their spouses) and their and 6 grandchildren. We have done 2 cruises together and we do early dining - one table for the 8 adults and a table next to us for the 6 grandchildren. Works great as the adults can talk with each other and enjoy their dinner and wine and the kids enjoy having a table to themselves. We are right next to each other so no worries.

  10. Get the internet package and text. We did that two weeks ago and it worked great. I don't believe Royal Connect is available on Oasis.

Can you explain this a little more. I guess each family (4) would have to get internet package. Then all texts would be included? This seems like a great idea provided the internet package is reasonable. Anyone know how much it costs?

  11. We are a family of 15 traveling on the Oasis in 7 cabins in July. What is the best way to find each other on the ship? I remember reading once about "Royal Connect" but that was a while ago. I also read somewhere that you can get an app for your phone to call each other on the ship without the outrageous charges. If anyone knows about this I would really appreciate any information. Thank you.

  13. Our cruise goes to Israel, Greece (among other ports) and Ephesus is the only port in Turkey. I am actually more leery of Israel although I have been told it is very safe for tourists. I believe Ephesus is not near any terrorist activity. Is that correct? In any case we have decided to take only ship tours on this cruise. I think that will make me feel more comfortable.

  14. We are on the October 17 and 31 Silhouette. I am wondering if Celebrity will offer a tour of Rome (our debark first cruise and and embark second cruise port).

I see in the shore excursion booklet they have tours for people going to the airport or to a hotel in Rome. Even though we have been in Rome twice we still would like to go for even a panoramic ride around Rome and not just sit on the ship. So if anyone has done a back to back like this I am hoping they will enlighten me. We know we could get a private tour but feel more comfortable on a ship excursion.

Alternately, is it possible to spend the day in Civitavecchia? is it a ice place to walk around with some shops and maybe lunch?

  15. We are going on a b2b on the Silhouette in October, a Med-Holy Land cruise and then a transatlantic.

I am wondering how far in advance we should book the shore excursions. We feel more comfortable taking the excursions from the ship, although I realize they can be more expensive.

However I would like to book some on the ship because we have a lot of OBC and since the drinks and gratuities are included, we have nothing else to use the OBC for.

In your experience can we wait to book at least some of the excursions until we are on the ship, and reasonably expect the ones we want will still be available?

  16. We have sailed many times on Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Holland America. Also 2 Viking River cruises. We have done a lot of Caribbean since we live in Florida, but also 2 transatlantics and five European cruises. We always take balcony cabins. We have also done quite a few land tours around the world. We are in our early 70s.

We are considering a Caribbean cruise on the Riviera. I understand the ship is much smaller than the cruises we have experienced, so probably a lot more personal service.

I have looked at some of the menus on the website you suggested. Much of the food seems gourmet and I'm really not, although I'm sure I will find things to eat I enjoy. I have read a few post on this board and it seems wine and alcohol are very expensive.

We would really like to try Oceania as we have heard raving reviews from friends. We are just wondering if it is for us, and if it would be worth the additional cost (about twice the price) for us.

So I guess I am looking for people to tell me why they prefer Oceania over say Celebrity.
