  1. I always enjoy your posts and pictures thank you for doing this on your trips.

Does Eurodam offer the daily activities on the phone app? We had that on Zaandam last July, in Alaska and it came in handy once I started remembering to check it out, haha. I usually put my cell phone in the safe for the majority of the cruise so I had to remember to keep it out with me more often.... which came in handy for snapping some quick pictures I could post easily [emoji846]

  2. Thanks for the tip. I've found a nice spot right on deck 3 forward where the Atrium organ sits flanked by the hotel director's and his managers' offices has a wireless hotspot that works well. There are a couple of desks and chairs there so it's a good place ....

Yes, I found the same place by the desk there that worked great! Although I had good connection in our cabin, I had tried that area during the first couple days out and the last couple days (when the connection was bad) it seemed to be better by the atrium then. [emoji846]

    I'm really enjoying your posts!

  3. Yes, I did follow along with yours. It was one of the several blogs done over the summer that inspired me to think "I could do this.....". Now the proof of the pudding will be in the writing for me and reading for you. Hope it turns out well!
You'll be just fine! It's a great way to have your own little diary.of your trip because I've noticed, that once I get back home other things take priority and the next thing I know weeks have gone by and I don't get it finished or done, so I really enjoy doing it while I'm on the trip. I noticed the internet was the worst the first couple nights heading out, and the last couple nights heading back, in the same area. You'll be in a different area so hopefully it'll work better for you. I would still write what I wanted to write and then I could copy and paste it into the page once I was connected.

  4. Overtime4me2,

I noticed that you ordered toast with your breakfast. My one concern with Room Service Breakfast is that the butter pats are stone cold and the toast is, at best, lukewarm. I have to "muscle" the butter to get it to spread on the toast and then, usually, I am not really satisfied with my efforts. Usually, I choose their delicious croissants as my bread item.

I usually order the croissants also but for some reason the toast just sounded really good to me. And luckily the butter pats were soft so I didn't have that problem, I was concerned about that too. [emoji846]

  5. I ordered room service a couple times on my Zaandam cruise in July. I had the ham and cheese omelette with toast, orange juice and some milk. It was on time, and hot each time it came. It was good, my only complaint was that the orange juice was a bit weak. The rest was delicious.

Here's a picture of one morning from my blog that I did of our cruise.

  6. I have to agree, the Zaandam singers on our July 30 sailing were the best of any ship’s singers from all our cruises. Every show may not have been my favorite, but they were by far the most talented group we’ve seen. A definite improvement!

There were far more EXC lectures and talks than on any previous sailing. EXC Guide Jeanette was so informative and added a local touch, which enhanced the Alaska experience.

I agree. I really enjoyed Jeannette's talks, and enjoyed that she was from Alaska. I thought that was so cool that she could go home and visit for a day while she was on board when we docked up near her home.

  7. My husband and I just returned from the same cruise. We thought it was fabulous all around, but we went for the itinerary.......

We had an onboard naturalist and an EXC "local guide" with her own desk. Both were available constantly.

Because of tour times and prime options for animal sightings during extended daylight sailing times, we opted to eat only in the Lido, Pinnacle, or Canaletto. The Lido food was basic--meats, fish, potatoes, rice, veg, soup, salad, appetizers, etc.--and well prepared. The staff was very eager to please. Overly rare prime rib was grilled to the diner's specs. The Pinnacle was nice, but it was the Canaletto that shined. OMG, the zuppa di pesce and the chicken cacciatore were the best ever.

We attended the 8pm shows nightly. The production shows were top notch--4 excellent primary singers, a great band, and fine dancing. The single entertainers were also very good--comedians, a pianist, a jazz saxophonist, a singer, and 2 BBC specials with live music.

We did go to 2 movies, moving our preferred dinner time to 7:15pm, but still got a seat at the show. We attended several lectures by the local guide.

We considered this 14 day cruise one of the very best we've done-- the perfect blend of ports, tours, sea days, education, entertainment, and food. I'd gladly repeat it again. We're nearing 4* status, and the crew, captain, and cruise director on the Zaandam were extraordinary.

The only thing I would have changed was the bed...........why HAL can't get the fabulous beds of Princess--when they're sister companies--I'll never know.........maybe next cruise.

That sounds almost exactly the same as my cruise on zaandam July 2nd very similar with the lectures and the tour people being available often. We had a great time. Again, we ate in the dining room 95% of the time, and my friend is gluten free. We did the open seating and they never missed having her gluten free information and were always right on top of it. I was very impressed and this is the 5th time I've sailed with her and it's been that way every time. That's one reason why she prefers eating in the dining room.

  8. Thank you! Loved reading your blog and seeing your pictures! We got on the Zaandam when you got off, and also had an amazing time and great weather, very unexpected! And I picked up quilting fabric in every port we could, it’d be fun to compare finshed quilts. Wonderful cruise!
If you're subscribed to my blog and I add more pictures you'll get a notification about it. I'm considering putting a couple pictures of the quilts up once I get the second one. My friend told me last night that it's almost done and I'm really looking forward to seeing what it looks like. I'll have to tell the story about that too because I had enough fabric that she said I could do 2, so she did two separate ones and I don't have a clue what it looks like because I did not want to see it until I actually had it in my hands once it's been shipped to me. 9. Thank you all for the kind comments. It was a beautiful trip!

AtlantaCruiser72: regarding the price of the Hubbard Excursion, it was more expensive than my float plane ride. I believe it was $249 but they did give us a 25% credit because we didn't get the full-time there. I didn't feel short-changed because it was so beautiful. But, the credit made it even better, haha. If I remember right I think that was around $187 total. And, like I said I thought it was really neat to get some pictures of the ship while it was moving when I wasn't on it, which was a little different when you think about it [emoji6]

  10. I'm so sorry to hear this about your trip. I was on the same Cruise the first two weeks in July and had the exact opposite experience. My travel buddy is also celiac and HAL is wonderful with her gluten-free requests. We had wonderful meals, not a bad one in the whole 2 weeks.

Again, sorry to hear this, hopefully you had some good times too.
