  1. Whenever I am planning Caribbean cruise vacation.

Baking cupcakes is the first thing that comes to mind that I want to do..

That's pretty much what what my 18 yo DD said. She has multiple disabilities and cannot climb the rock wall, surf or parasail. That's why we love Royal's progressive, inclusive thinking - they offer things that are actually fun for everyone! :p

  2. We had the ship to ourselves for just a little while. We roamed around a bit. I was saddened to see how some passengers left their cabins. So much mess and trash all over the place. Disgusting! June and George said their cabin was full of sand. It took a while to clean that up so they were delayed getting into their new cabin.

The Presidential Suite was just around the corner from us' date=' so we went to take a peek at that. I think one of our roll call members had this cabin booked for the coming week. Very nice![/size']

Several bedrooms and bathrooms in this thing!

Thank you so much for posting these. We will be in the PS in December, so it's great to have something to look at while we wait. I could just hug you. :D:p

BTW - congrats on your retirement, and thank you for your years of dedication to teaching!!

  3. Straight from Mr. Goldstein's blog:

Do you plan to offer more programs for children under 3 in the future? - Wendy M.

In 2011 we introduced a new program to select ships in the fleet entitled Maritime Music. Maritime Music is a mommy and me music experience for children ages 6 months to 5 years. We have teamed up with the Midtown School of Performing Arts in Tulsa, Oklahoma for parents to have the opportunity to interact with their child in a musical setting while onboard. The ships that carry this program are: Oasis, Allure, Liberty, Freedom, Radiance, Explorer and Mariner. Five additional ships will receive the Maritime Music Program in 2012.

Currently we offer Fisher-Price Playgroups fleetwide on all of our 22 ships. These are for ages 6 to18 months (Royal Babies) and 18 to 36 months (Royal Tots). The play groups take place throughout the voyage, there is a 45 minute play experience for parents to interact with their babies and tots. Curriculum and toys are provided by our partners at Fisher-Price.

Our private destination, CoCoCay has a Fisher-Price PowerWheels track that is specifically for children ages 2 through 5. Parents can accompany their children while they enjoy the PowerWheels on our outdoor track.

The fleet also offers an interactive experience for mom and tots entitled Crayola Beginnings. This program was created by our partners at Crayola for parents and toddlers (ages 18 to 36 months) to experience art in a fun playful environment. This program is fleetwide and is offered throughout the voyage.

Our company has taken a closer look at accommodating the Under 3 age group since 2011, where we retrofitted four ships, Liberty, Freedom, Radiance, Splendour, with Royal Babies and Tots Nurseries. These four ships in addition to Oasis and Allure give us six fully functional nurseries with drop off service for children ages 6 to 36 months.

In 2012 there are three ships confirmed to receive Nurseries: Rhapsody, Mariner and Grandeur.

  4. You cannot fall overboard. You have to be intentionally climbing over the railing, horsing around on top of the railing, or engaged in some significantly consumed alcohol fueled activity that would involve any of the above in order to find a way over any of the railings.

And those who have unfortunately succeeded in doing so have done so as the result of one of the above reasons.

I'm not one to pick nits, and in an average world, you would be correct. However, in the world of autism and other developmental disabilities, I hold my ground. Believe me, these kids can, and will, do things that you and I cannot even begin to imagine. So...I dearly love the "extra boat" beyond the railing. ;)

  5. When are you planning to go on Indy? We are taking a December cruise in the PS on Freedom, and I think they are very similar. From everything I've read, the biggest gripe is the superstructure of the ship. This gripe is actually the reason we were looking at the aft to begin with. If you've looked at any pictures from the balcony, you will see additional "floor" and steel beams. You just can't look over the railing and see the ocean, and the view is minimally obstructed.

We had a JS aft on Navigator last year and loved it. There are several disabled people in our family, and it's actually comforting to me to know that falling overboard would be a whole lot harder from the PS - seriously, lots harder. For that peace of mind, I sure don't mind looking at a steel beam or two. :p

I am trying to attach a pic I found here on CC, so kudos to the OP of the image. It is a perfect representation of what I am expecting to find right over the balcony railing. Hope this helps. Whom ever goes first can come back and update the other.

As for having two families in the PS, it holds 14 I think, so you could probably make it work unless you are the Duggars and their friends. ;)

  6. Not to stir the pot, but here's a very different take on the situation. I am completely against the consumption of alcohol by minors. However.....

How old someone "looks" is irrelevant. Unless the IDs of the youths were examined, there is no way to know for sure. How do I know? Simple. On one of our cruises, my daughter came into the cabin - disrupting my well-deserved nap - and she was in tears of humiliation.

She was 23 years of age, and the bartender asked to see her room card - an appropriate request. The key card was properly marked for a 23 year old adult. He then informed her, quite loudly, that she was lying, had stolen someone else's card, would be reported for trying to purchase alcohol as a minor AND might be put off the ship at the next port!!!! All of this in front of a large crowd at the pool bar.

She is now 26, looks 16 and hasn't cruised since. :(

  7. First cruise was on Majesty Cruise Line's Royal Majesty. What a beautiful little ship! 4 nights out of Miami, western Carib...Key West, Cozumel......don't remember other ports, but I have a lovely photo album and great memories. No balconies back then...when dinosaurs ruled the planet. :p

She was sold to NCL, stretched and named Norwegian Majesty. Not sure, but I think she has since been scrapped. :(
