  1. From Suffolk Co LI, limo companies will go just about anywhere but dislike Bayonne from our experience,, Did great with limo when X was in Manhattan and with Cunard in Brooklyn....Driving the Belt Pwy is torture.vNot much better thru Manhattan.Guess it's all wait and see anyhow...

The limo company has zero chance of a return fare from the port. All but zero from EWR. It may take 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get to Bayonne. Could take 3 hours to drive back

You're being basically being charged for 5 hours not a point to point rate. Anything under $500 is sort of fair to the limo company but more then I'd spend. Driving makes theist sense.

Royal offers, or used to offer motor coach. Don't remember price. It had a handful of pick up locations. Park n Ride lots off the lie. Decent option of you don't drive

  2. Also, Bayonne bridge is not closed every weekend.

True, my comment was in response to the poster who said bridge is open and construction is completed. Not true.

Bridge is open this weekend, labor day traffic. Bridge is open if bad weather precludes construction.

Google maps knows if Bridge is closed. Port Authority website also has information.

  3. I don't think Millie, or any M class ship sailI here on the Island would do anything not to have to make that trip into Manhattan. The Belt & V Bridge are bad enough.

I think it is a good idea for cruise lines to mix up their ships. After a while, locals like a change of scenery; & while itineraries are fixed, a different ship would help avoid that feeling of same old, same old.

As Andy would say, we shall see!

I agree with your conclusion but your facts.... Bayonne Bridge is closed weekends for construction

Suggested route is LIE-BQE-Mamhattan Bridge - Holland Tunnel.

In general travel time from Long Island to Cape Liberty is similar to Manhattan cruise port.

Big difference is for pax who want to use mass transit. LIRR then taxi gets you to Manhattan port

No easy way from LI to Cape Liberty

  4. According to the Gazette they are going to drop anchor until their regular arrival time tomorrow.

Sent from my XT1585 using Forums mobile app

That's not what the gazette is currently saying

The spokesman said the cruise ship, normally due at 6.20am on Wednesday, was set to arrive at 3pm and will anchor at Grassy Bay until a berth is free in DDockyard.

Anthem and Dawn both depart this afternoon. I have no idea if dock is staffed to dock the summit today or let pax off ship today.

  5. I'll be following along.

Question if you could find the answer too - are cans of soda included again in the classic alcohol package? Feel free to ask the bathroom cleaner, I'm sure she knows.

    thanks.

On 8/20 sailing orders for diet Coke were always filled with a can. Fountain wasn't even offered. Classic beverage. I don't know if diet Coke is an option on the gun. I thought it was standard.

  6. OP needs to check with his airline. There are a (very) few number of airlines which allow transfer of a ticket to another passenger for a fee. Interject is one. I think spirit used to allow it. Its rare but worth checking

  7. As you see from the responses some people will do this particularly if they have been given exceptional service.

It's certainly nice to do but not expected.

    Keith

Posts must have been edited. Ever poster said daily service fee covers buffet servers and is sufficient. One poster said he'd tip if server really went out if his way, but that hasn't happened after 700 sailing days.

  8. PP are correct. Uber and Dial 7 make the most sense. Not sure about Uber surge pricing. You might need to hang out for a few minutes then try again.

I also agree with PP with regards to Long Island City, depending on rate, how many nights and what you'll be doing. I guess it works, if you got a great rate if you're going to tour Manhattan for a few days then fly out of LGA.

  9. First decide what sleeping arrangements you're looking for. Paying extra so your child sleeps in the same cabin as your brother, giving you and your husband privacy might make some sense.

Pricing. Think of a hotel. Typically priced at double occupancy. One person in a room pays the same price as two people in the room next door. A third person in the second room might be free. Moving the third person into the single room lowers the average price in half. All you've done is have the family of three subsidize the single.

Think cruise ship. Same principal. Food is included. Sometimes the cost for a 3rd and 4th passenger is enough to offset additional port fees and food costs. Sometimes the cruise line is running a promotion and absorbs some of those costs. The ship is staffed for a fully sold cruise. The actual food only cost for an additional passenger is nominal.

Single supplement is the reverse. The cruise line is saving a few dollars in food costs but losing a few dollars in revenue. Two people will generally spend more money then one person on extras like photo, spa, shore excursions. casino...That's why cruise lines frequently have a single supplement that is basically paying for an extra passenger.

An issue not mentioned. It's OK (more or less) to switch passengers. Only a one way switch, going from 2 to 3 in a cabin, maybe not. One issue is the cabin might not be configured to sleep 3. Another issue is "muster". Each passenger, based on cabin, is assigned to a muster station (emergency meeting place. Lifeboat capacity is determined by the number of passengers in that area. That's why not every cabin which can accommodate 4 passengers can be sold as a quad. There will be enough beds but not enough room in the life boats.

Suggestion. Go to Carnivals website. Price out your brothers cabin as a single. Price it out as a double. Price your cabin as a double then as a quad. The extra money your spending subsidizing your brother might be alternatively spent upgrading your families cabin.

Conclusion. If your goal is to subsidize your brother, without being obvious, so he can financially join you then list your child as being in his cabin. Otherwise book your child in your cabin, possibly upgrading your money with the money you'll be saving.

  10. Travelers checks used to be accepted by almost every business. Go back far enough and credit cards weren't universally accepted nor relatively easy to obtain.

I guess the modern "equivalent", people who can't qualify for a credit card or have issues with credit cards, would be a prepaid credit card or prepaid debit card.

For the most part a cruise vacation can be cashless. Gratuities are generally added to you ship board account. Most stores in port are happy to accept credit cards.

  11. Not everyone reads internet boards prior to making reservation. Not everyone reads all the fine print before booking. Exact name and DOB are used to screen passengers against various watch lists. Change first name to a nickname, typo on last name and DOB and someone might get they idea you're playing games to avoid getting a hit. OR PP is right, make a change and you may get a hit for someone else. The issue isn't really not being allowed to board, although it's possible. The issue is extended additional security before you're allowed to board.

An example. My Southwest profile had my middle initial but not name. Reservation system wouldn't let me override. My passport has my full middle name. I let it slide. Counter agent said it had to be an exact match, updated the record and printed out an update boarding pass. It took a few minutes, no charge and no hassle...BUT the name changed triggered SSS for my flight and my return flight. Not the end of the word going. I had a connecting flight coming home and had to go through security. I had to wait 20 minutes for a supervisor. At least least in BWI a regular TSA agent couldn't clear a SSS passenger. I'm global entry.

  12. Consider yourself lucky that you are getting that much, because all they really owe you is the current value of a used purse of that brand. Hopefully they won't send you a 1099 for the difference in current value and what you originally paid.

You're kind of missing the point. Used value of the purse exceeds the original purchase price.

OP You can read all the fine print. I'll speculate the cruise line's contract, which you agreed to, limits their liability.
