  1. Thers no way to tell you what "most people " do. Depends on the itinerary. Depends on the time of year. Depends on the length of the cruise. Depends on how many families there are.

I did say Summit to Bermuda. That suggests summer.

I understand the dress code offers a lot of latitude. My question, for those of you who notice, what do most of the men seem to wear.

  2. Thepointsguy.com is another good resource. Check for UK credit cards on one of the sites.

Better reward cards generally have higher interest rates. People who don't pay off their full balance every month might benefit more from a card which offers a lower interest rate rather then a higher reward payout.

Don't let a merchant in another country put through the charge in dollars. The foreign exchange rate is so bad even a card with a 3% foreign exchange fee will be a better deal.

  3. Last post in the closed thread is months old.

Summit to Bermuda, if it matters.

I know what Celebrity says. I'm not looking to start a discussion/debate on what the dress code should be.

Men Jackets are optional. How many wear a jacket to Evening Chic? Looks like dress jeans are considered appropriate for both evening chic and smart casual. Do most people wear jeans for either? Dockers? Real dress pants? Polo style shirt? Long sleeve button down sport shirt? Short sleeve button down shirt? I think I'll skip a sweater. There doesn't seem to be much of a difference, at least as described by Celebrity.

I'm looking for comments as to what men generally wear for either style. I know I'm allowed to wear a tux, no reason to. I'm sure I can "get away" dressing a lot more casual then allowed.

I never participated in the old dress code debates. JMO, some posters should have just picked a different cruiseline. People who enjoyed wearing a tux, or suit, should have avoided NCL. People what are looking to wear casual attire (being polite) for dining should have avoided Cunard.

  4. Not sure what you mean by "passport office." He did it at the courthouse.

Your need to "prove" me wrong is puzzling.

He already had an expired pp. big difference

Passports are not issued in the courthouse however there may well be a pp office at your courthouse

The pp was issued by the passport office

Only politicians (either party) are allowed to misrepresent a statement in order to better attack him (or her). Only a politician, again either party, is allowed to continue making a point, even after being proven wrong.

Many (most?) people apply for a passport without going to a passport office. Post office. Court house. The fact that the passport is issued by the state department doesn't contradict posters point.

Regulations are 100% clear. A 16 or 17 year old with correct ID doesn't require parental permission or awareness.

I'm not sure if you're having trouble reading or just don't believe it. In what world does imaginary conversations trump the written word?

Again--Larger font in case you're having trouble reading.

If you have your own identification document (ID), you may apply for a passport by yourself,.....If you do not have a current ID, you must show at least one parent knows that you are applying for a passport

The requirement of one parent awareness only applies if the 16 year old lacks ID.

Some posters refuse to admit their mistakes. I sort of understand a poster who drops out of a thread under those circumstances.

  5. I'm not going to quote the posters I'm referring to. For purposes of discussion we have to assume information on an official government website relevant to the question at hand is accurate.

From the link to the state department website regarding passports:

If you have your own identification document (ID), you may apply for a passport by yourself,.....If you do not have a current ID, you must show at least one parent knows that you are applying for a passport.

Parental awareness is only required if the 16-17 year old applicant doesn't have current ID

Parental consent requirements are imposed by the cruise line and countries you'll be visiting. From the DHS website

If a single parent has sole custody, a copy of the court custody document can replace a letter from the other parent.

Interesting, at least to me, variation. A family was flying to Mexico. Flight was cancelled. Family was split. Parent with child went on one flight other parent and child on a different. Had to locate other parent in airport somewhere and get consent before could enter Mexico.

  6. It's about an hour drive from the Port to Disney Springs. I assume the OP knows what Disney Springs is and has a reason for wanting to go there. I'd probably go for Space Center or beach but Disney Springs is a reasonable choice. JMO but not enough port time for a theme park.

Renting a car is the cheapest, and might be the best way.

Cruise line bus to the the Magic Kingdom is probably the worst way to go. Hitch hiking is the method of transportation I can think of which would be worst.

Cruise line bus is around $100 per passenger. For $300 you could book one of the transportation companies that offers fixed rate transportation between Disney, MCO and the port. Getting from Disney Springs to the MK (technically TTC or parking lot), using Disney transporation, will probably take at least an hour, possibly closer to 2. You'll probably need Uber or a taxi to get from Disney Springs to the TTC.

Some people prefer ship shore excusrions. Chance of the ship being held if a tour is delayed. Cruise line will generally assume responsibility of getting you to the next port. Many people are fine with private excursions. A major accident closes the road. Good chance the ship will be held for ship tours.

You'll want to let rental compnay handle the tolls. You'll probably have a daily charge for the convience, and possibly toll amounts.

  7. NEWS FLASH!!!

The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal and JFK are both in NYC.

True, many people think NYC means Manhattan. The underlying point was valid, IMHO. Taking a train to Penn Station or Grand Central then a taxi is going to be more complicated and expensive then it's worth.

    No

Just get a limo or uber from wherever you decide to park your car

With luggage and a bad back do not deal with NYC at all. That's crazy and there is no need to go to NYC

Just get yourself to JFK from the most convenient spot in lower Westchester or ct that you can. That may well be where you actually park your car...or your home...or perhaps metro north from say Stamford to new Rochelle and then uber/limo to JFK from there

On return uber/limo to wherever your car is or to the easiest metro north station that will get you to your car

I just took uber with luggage from JFK to white plains for $122. That was surge pricing too and it's reasonable as it was 1am and lots of pax looking for uber and it taught me that for future airport travel that uber is much more logical than a prearranged driver

In our case our airport pickup driver was waiting for us at the proper time...only we were diverted and the airline never updated their website. So when I finally spoke to him when we landed at our diverted location and knew we would be 7 hours late getting to JFK he of course couldn't wait which was totally understandable. The issue was getting someone out to JFK later on not knowing when later on might be...so uber home it was!! And will be from now on.

Personally in your case as you have back issues I would just get a private limo/uber from point A to point B and back

With a trip as long as yours this cost is just a drop in the bucket

How is that easier then a one day, one way car rental?

  8. Completely erroneous information..

What's erroneous? The statement suggesting a notarized permission signed by both parents? The opinion it probably won't be asked for a 17 year old male?

Technically a 16 year old requires parental awareness (one parent) not parental permission. I don't think there is much of a real world difference but the poster you quoted offered completely correct information.

  9. Long term parking at JFK is 18 per day, including tax. The website sometimes had coupons. Parking will be around 400. Taxi or car service from port to airport is close to 70.

Port website says Avis location xb4 is closest to port. They suggest code a427700. I suggest checking any discount program which includes Avis. One way rental may be best way to go

Any agency should have drop off at JFK. Do you have a friend relative looking for an excuse to go to NYC? Maybe get a ride going and rent a car for your return.

  10. Real cheap luggage is basically cardboard covered with fabric. Literally expected to last one trip.

    PP gave you good suggestions.

Places like Marshall's and Tuesday mornings sometimes have deals. Some of their bags are junk and some are oversized per airline rules.

  11. Thanks. I knew the basic rules since before (24 weeks), but cruise lines have different rules when it comes to the "fit to travel" letter from a doctor.

Royal, Celebrity and Azamara does not require any "fit to travel" letter. Some require it in advance and some at the check in. In Sweden it's impossible to get one in advance, you can get one 3 days before the trip.

They may not require a letter but...if you appear to be more then 24 week pregnant a letter from a doctor verifying how long, and stating fit to travel, is a lot easier then trying to convince a cruise employee you're not lying.

  12. I only saw reference to pods and capsules, all available for both retail and commercial. The little packets are not pods nor capsules. That's what I took from it. Every in-room coffee maker I've seen uses either the K cup format or Nepresso format. Even the Illy machines at The St. Regis Bahia Beach were Nepresso-format capsules.

So, there are many different types and formats...

The illy machines use iperEspresso capsules, a proprietary format not compatible with Nespresso. I've never stayed at St. Regis Bahia. I guess it's possible they were able to get a custom machine but I doubt it.

  13.

Lookingforfacts was referring to "commercial models of single serve coffee maker or espresso". The experiment on Harmony of the Seas are allegedly Illy Espresso machines.

Exactly. Many if the car dealers and medical offices have switched to a system which uses what appears to be small plastic envelope, not the best description. Motivation to steal pods is reduced since they won't fit in a consumer unit. K cups are K cups. Steal a pod and you can use it in any K unit.

  14. Thanks Everyone for your suggestions. Yes I've got/going to arrange pre and post Cruise tours. I've been in touch with Gate1 Travel and they can't give times not even approximate times so I guess we have no option but to do their tours.

The alternative is to book a different, more expensive, river cruise line. Different cruise lines include different tours.

  15. Booking through the Chase travel portal gives you the opportunity to use fewer points to book. I thought the portal is your TA and you'd get the same perks as booking directly with the cruise line. Your TA perk is reduced number of points. Shop and see if paying cash with a different TA gives you a better deal. Using your example $600 in savings might be as good as getting TA perks
