On the Atlantic Adventure in '16 I took a couple to dinner in the pinnacle but said in advance that I was paying the bill. Perhaps my 5 star helped.

This one is for @sail7seas. I mistakenly though she was missing the Mariner stars when I answered because (1) that's been a common problem, and (2) I couldn't see which graphic was broken. However, people set me straight and here's how to put the classic HAL logo in your signature. There is also a link to the graphic for the new style logo if someone wants that.
Adding the Classic HAL Logo to Your Cruise Critic Signature
First, click on your username to open the drop down menu.
Second, click on Account Settings on the drop down menu.
That will take you to the Settings screen. You'll want to click on Signature.
Place you cursor where you'd like to insert the image. If you have broken links or other leftover junk, go ahead and clean it up first, and then put your cursor where you want to insert the image. I chose the beginning of the line. I've only got one line in my signature, but you can have up to 10. Be aware that only one or two lines show up in the unexpanded view of your signature.
Once you've got your cursor placed, click on the Insert other media button and then click Insert image from URL.
This will open an overlay dialog box where you can enter the URL of the appropriate image. (They're up near the top of this post, but I'll repeat them at the bottom for your convenience.
Copy and paste the correct URL for which logo you want to use. The logo links are below the divider line in this post. I'm using the classic logo for this example.
Then, click the Insert into post button to place your image.
The image shows up where your cursor was, at the beginning of the first line in this example. Don't forget to click the Save button. Otherwise, your signature won't be updated.
The HAL Logo URLs and Images:

Didn't know photobucket wants you to pay for third party posting now, so I guess all my previous posts are toast.
KandCsailing, would you have a spreadsheet or something larger than you just supplied? It is much to small. Please send to paulkatz8@gmail.com .

I had a similar problem to some extent. Princess was to get me taxi from London airport to hotel. Taxi no there. Cost me $200. Eventually got my money back.

I love to use excel for organzing all kinds of things. I have columns for Day, Night, Misc, and carry on. I have a small column in front of each one to check off. I have a basic packing list and just have to update it for the specific trip. I highlight items I need to purchase and remove the highlighting when I have the item.
I use excel when planning a vacation too. With columns for each day and what is planned for each day. If I need to make reservations for something I highlight it until it has been taken care of.
I don't see this as anal rentitive just organized so that I am not like the person I met on the plane to Alaska who had a tank top on and had forgotten to pack a coat.
Would you please email me a copy of excel spreadsheet to

I'm on the Veendam for the 2014 VOV and needless to say, the retreat pools are not used in the Northern waters because of the temperatures.
I rather like the idea, besides there is really nothing we can do about it.

I just returned from a cruise to the Panama Canal. You might blame it on Apple & other mfg's who make tablets small & convenient. I connect on a need basis. Cruise co's help for with Princess I am Elite and Princess gives Elite 250 free minutes. You either use it or lose it. Plus you can get online & check several sites free.

Just returned from a BTB cruise to the Panama Canal from FLL. One entertainer had a women on the stage and she had a bag. It did not dawn on me until later ... why the heck does she need a bag on a ship. One of the first things I do is put my wallet, keys, passport, anything of value (some people even put cell phones).

Packing entirely too much junk. I mean really, some of the packing lists I have seen are insane. I have traveled two weeks at a time out of a carry-on...
I've cruised a month with just 1 carry-on & like you I still bring too much. I plan to take a 35 day cruise & will still take a carry-on.

Add to that - being in another country, outside your pharmacy/physician hours, toss in some chest pain or a broken leg in a foreign ER and no recollection or list of what meds you are taking and you've got a big ole mess. Everyone thinks they will remember the names and dosages - trust an ER nurse - you won't always. And "that pink pill, you know the one you take for your nerves and the medium size oval one for your blood pressure - you know the one" is not going to make it any easier for someone trying to save your/spouse/friend's life. Why would you even?
Believe it or not my dental hygienist told me to write my meds on a sheet of paper & carry it in my wallet.

We went on Celebrity last August & we would rate everything as excellent.
What is the difference with going with Celebrity with a capacity of about 90 and the smaller ones with less capacity. Not being a wise guy but I am interested in seeing the Galapagos and would like information.

One of the posters said you can order room service from the dining room menu? As I am assuming lobster is only served on formal nights, can u order it through room service? My husband does not own a suit and we will not be making that purchase for a couple dinners therefore I have to figure out a way to get lobster, lololol!!
I total understand both sides of this debate!!
I personally, will not go to formal night because I would just feel under dressed. They maybe should have a double tier system so u can get the same meals. One sitting for people who wear tuxes and suits and another seating for 'smart casual".. Just a thought.
On formal night from Boston to Montreal on the HAL Maasdam, the waiter supplied the gentleman with a jacket. Some were even allowed on Formal night with just a shirt and slacks, no tie.

We have had many MDR formal night dinners on many ships.
We have yet to see someone attend a formal dinner in the MDR wearing a robe. Are HAL's rules really that relaxed?
I can only tell you what I saw. Please remember this was a 7 day cruise and the weather was unusually warm from the Boston to Montreal portion.
A few men wore tux's, most wore either suits or a jacket with pants.
It appears that HAL has relaxed a bit. Although they are making changes to their wine policy which does not bother me since I do not drink.
On this cruise one night I showed up in shorts because on the previous night a person at my table wore shorts. The manager stopped me saying shorts were not allowed. Yet on the last night shorts were allowed, you figure.

Just back from 7 day Westerdam on open seating (not our choice) and found that "almost anything goes". Things have changed over the years
I just returned from a RT cruise from Boston to Montreal. Very few people with Tux's most had either suits or jacket & pants. Very noticeable that some women, even for a 7 day voyage, take a dress for each day & 8 prs of shoes!

I think the newbies DON'T have lanyards or they use the ones sold by the cruise ship gift shop. We cruise veterans know how to make things easier for ourselves!
We are far from newbies and we all wear lanyards when we cruise. Our lanyards have a window for your card and a nice pouch that carries my smartphone... that I use as a camera all cruise. That is all I carry. No purse. Makes it convenient so my hands are free and I always have my phone. Most of my clothes don't have pockets. :)

Where do you get the lanyards with a window that contains your iphone 4?

Just bought a $0.99 app currency converter for my phone. It also includes a calculator, measuring tape, and FLASHLIGHT! Someone mentioned a flahslight is good to have when finding your way back to the ship at night.
Would you please supply the name?
Thanks,

I am so guilty of alot of these! (took over 400 hundred pictures and kept calling the ship a boat. Whoops!) But it was good that I cruised with novice cruisers.
Something I also saw was people getting stung by the fresh squeezed orange juice they had in the buffet every morning during my cruise. I saw alot of people take one and then have the awkward face when they were asked for their Seapass and then charged for their orange juice. I didn't fall in the trap, thankfully!
I was on the Noordam (HAL) in January 2013 and they had fresh orange juice at no cost. They put the oranges in the top of the machine and out came orangejuice.
As for drinking, I don't touch the stuff - doctors orders. Saves me a bundle of money:)
