Reservations for the Magic Carpet can only be made on board.  We asked about it last week and were told that they sourced local food for the dinner and under the CDC orders they are not permitted to do that in the US at this time.

I thought they would be the only way.  I will check when we get onboard! If they are not offering it on our cruise, that’s okay! There are plenty of other wonderful places to eat! Thank you!!

  2. Hello! Does anyone know how and when we can make dinner reservations in the Magic Carpet on the Apex? They are only having dinner there one night during our upcoming cruise. And I would love to take the husband there for his birthday. Thanks in advance!!

  3. My son and his wife are on their honeymoon on Celebrity Solstice and they were able to make all the port stops in New Zealand, but will make no stops in Australia! They called me Friday night to see if I could change their flight home. They were planing to spend a few extra days in Sydney, but the AirBnB they booked was in the heart of the virus outbreak so they wanted me to book them home when they port on March 20. So I did, and then we find out Australia has shut down their ports and they will not port in Australia. Just grateful they can go straight to the airport and not do anything outside the airport! They have enjoyed their trip with no issues with Celebrity!!

  4. Thanks! I am not concerned about the noise! I usually sleep like a rock!

I read a post prior to our cruise about another guest saying the sound coming from it was hardly noticeable. I never heard a peep. My cruise was in 60-70 degree weather and that may play a role in how much air (hot or cold)is being handled through there. I would not worry about noise.

  5. One more question...does the center ventilation area make any noise??

Yes. D734 and D735 are the same. They both sit between the corner suite and the center ventilation area.

  6. Thanks again!! We usually cruise on Celebrity and I know those ships inside and out! Nice to try different lines and itineraries! :)

Glad I could help! There's no difference between the cabins you're talking about other than a little less depth on the balcony on the Emerald Deck cabins. ;)
  7. WOW...very cool!! We are in D735 and this is the cabin my parents are in. I am assuming that D735 is the same! Getting super excited now!!:):):)

Dolphin deck aft balcony's are very large

  8. We had E-733, one deck below yours, years ago. I hope you don't mind if give you some not-so-positive information - I wish someone had told us ahead of time. The ship really moves a lot, creaks a lot and moans a lot if you have decent waves & winds. After cruising in aft cabins/suites on many other cruise lines, we really noticed a difference. Since you've sailed Celebrity, don't expect it to be anywhere near as smooth-riding as that on 95% of the Princess ships.

Our son, who didn't know what seasickness was at the time, got very seasick two nights in a row. In 21 cruises, that is the ONLY time he has been seasick. So if you're sensitive to movement, definitely start your Bonine well before the ship leaves port. The rest of us were fine with the movement so it really just depends on how tolerant you are of it.

You'll have a 12" wide support beam on the balcony but that didn't make any difference to our enjoyment of the big balcony. We had a really nice bon voyage party out there and there was plenty of room for everyone.

The cabin itself is beautiful and the hallway is wonderfully quiet. I wish I had pictures but I don't. Like the guy above said, do a search for "Grand Princess aft balconies" or "suite D-734" or whatever the case is. We did have a little noise from the theatre below but it was always over by 10:15pm and I think with you being on a higher deck, you wouldn't hear it at all. Enjoy! ;)

Thanks for the information!! I usually don't get sick, but my husband usually does not get his sea legs until the second day. I will make sure we pack and take some sea sick pills for the first day. My parents and our kids are also in the aft cabins. My parents are on the same deck, opposite side, and our kids are right under my parents. I will make sure they take this as well!! I think they are all usually fine, but will let them know this information! Thank you again!! :)

  9. Just wondering if anyone has any information on the aft cabins on the Grand. We usually sail Celebrity and their aft balconies are huge. Any photos would be great too!:) We are on the Dolphin Deck. Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks!

  10. I have parked several times at 80 Francisco, across the street from 55 Francisco. The rate was/is slightly lower, $16/day versus $18/day. However on our most recent 10-day cruise, the folks at 80 Francisco seem to have decided to count the 10-day trip as 11 calendar days, so what was once $160 (no tax charged) was now $176. Don't know if 55 Francisco charges tax in addition to the $18/day or how they count days, but that's the current update for anyone who is comparing the two parking lots.

Thanks for the information! We have decided to take a shuttle with our group and we will all arrive at the same time!

  11. I believe the small boat excursion is listed under Juneau on the princess site. We were on the Ruby last week, didn't get into Tracy Arm, same thing happened when we went years ago so I have nothing to compare seeing Endicott but reading this info about not getting all the way into Tracy Arm, I'm thankful we got so far up towards the glacier each time in Endicott. It's simply beautiful.

I didn't fully understand the small boat excursion and didn't look into it closely because my family was not interested in spending that much time on a small boat. I won't make that mistake again. The excursion last week, saw calving, seals and baby seals, a bear, and whales.....sort of like getting several excursions in one. One thing is for sure, I will never get tired of an Alaska cruise.

This is not being offered on our trip! :(

  12. Just post on the roll call that you plan to attend and I'll include you on the list. Princess doesn't do formal roll call groups like Celebrity and Royal, so ours is done through the roll call forum. Just remember, the One5 Nightclub at 11 am Saturday, Aug. 20.

    Thank you for the information!!

  13. Since we usually cruise on Celebrity, we have signed up through the Celebirty Connections! Can't find the one the Princess and do not know how to sign up! :)

It is a special itinerary ... we will be at Mardi Gras this coming year.

Not sure about signing up for the roll call. I have done so on Celebrity (Connections) but didn't realize there was one for Princess.

  14. And over 400 people...that is crazy!!

    Lucky you!! That is fabulous....

We had already booked a Pacific Coastal out of Seattle for September. I couldn't talk my sister in law into that one ... but we got such a great deal, didn't want to give it up. So, we are doing both but only an oceanview on this one as we didn't really budget for it ahead of time. I usually love the cabins on the Emerald deck ... but if there is any place to get a balcony, it is Alaska!!

I would think it would be fine for others to join in on the roll call, especially since it is a cash bar. I am sure Princess would just say, the more the merrier. It would be different if it were like one of my roll call groups ... over 400 in it so far. That is crazy, isn't it?

  15. Our kids and parents also have an aft balcony! We really do feel lucky to have been able to get one on this cruise since we booked late! Our first choice is always an aft cabin! Our cruise in 2017 on Celebrity we are trying the Aqua Class for the first time! And they did not have any balconies on the back! :( We also have a small group (8) of us on a 14 Night Southern Exotic Caribbean Cruise!

Tried to sign me and my husband up, but I kept getting kicked off?? Can you sign us up? I will let our group know when the meetings are and see if anyone wants to join! Super excited!!

  16. We have an aft balcony!! And we are super excited!! I will sign my husband and I for the roll call. Not sure about everyone else!! Can they just show up with us if they want?

Regardless of how long .. it will probably still be my favorite day. No balcony on this cruise (which incidentally looks to be completely sold out) ... so I might be found up in the indoor pool really early that day.....coffee in hand.

You know, the Grand also has a lovely seating section out back near the aft pool. It is one thing I do really love about the Grand....haven't really seen that on any of their other ships. It is such a nice place to enjoy a good book and it is rather wind proof as well. If it is a nice day, maybe that is where I will hang out that morning.

  17. Would you please let me know how far your ship goes when you return? I am hoping to get to the end too!! :)

    Hello!

I'm curious too, as I'll be on the same route, but in July. I'm assuming, though, that the info from the recent cruises may not be applicable to us late July/August cruisers, since there will have been additional time for the route to open up by the time we get there. Hoping to make it all the way down the fjord!

  18. Thank you for the information!! Last cruise to Alaska was in 2002! We leave August 19 for 10 days. Is this the same one you are on?? Are there other glaciers that they will take us to and do the 360?? We have about 20 people traveling with us! It our sons 30th birthday and this is what he wanted to do!! I am always up for a cruise!

I think I am on the same cruise as you. I go up at least every other year ... we laugh because the captain or whomever is announcing the events always states, 'this is as close as we've gotten all year' -- every time. LOL

Either we are extremely lucky or that is a rehearsed statement ...me thinks the latter.

On the recent previous years, we've not gotten all that close. We haven't really been close enough to even see any calving in the last few years. I think it is a short run up the Tracy Arm, a turnaround and then headed back. I remember when it used to be a day trip but think it is only from 5 AM - 10 AM this go around. What's up with that??? Heck, we're going to view the glacier with our morning coffee.....and a camera with a good zoom lens.

Sorry that wasn't really an answer to your question ... just not expecting too to get to terribly close.

  19. We are leaving in August from SF to Alaska for 10 nights, and we are cruising the Tracy Arm and not Glacier Bay. Just wondering if anyone has been in the Tracy Arm this year and how close to the end did you get?

    Thanks!! :)
