  1. If you follow the link to the unexpected shipboard credit sale, you will get to thistle

    https://www.windstarcruises.com/unexpected/

Which explains that the credit is $400 for 14 to 21 day cruises. The blurb with "up to $1000"" covers the whole offer, not the benefit for the specific cruise.

I don't know if one can get the Carribean is Open Wi-Fi and credit plus the Unexpected credit or just one.

I know that when my cruise showed a 7 for 7 price and Unexpected credit at the same time, Windstar said it was one or the other, not both. So it wouldn't surprise me if one had to choose between the two offers.

  2. We booked a Star Collector 14 day cruise on the Windsurf, originally embarking and disembarking from St. Maarten, Dec. 9-23. We booked early. We all know the impact the hurricane season had on the Caribbean. Our embarkation port was changed to Barbados. Our itinerary was changed. We did not complain about either. We decided we liked the cruise experience on the Windsurf (we have sailed on the ship before), so we decided not to cancel. Many of our fellow cruisers chose to cancel as they either didn't like the new itinerary, or changing to a new embarkation port was too difficult. It was challenging changing flights to a new island. We had to book into the island two days in advance of the cruise. Now we have been seeing the new prospective passengers for the cruise are being offered sizeable on board credits and free amenities. We have been offered nothing. I've contacted both our travel agent and Windstar. Both send us back to the other. We are very unhappy with Windstar at this time. We feel like we are being punished for being both loyal and for booking early.

  3. For a 14 day cruise, the bonus credit is $400. The $1000 credit is for 30 days or more (I think there is only one that is long enough). I booked my crossing and Alaska cruise before the credit. I could get the credit, but to do so, my fare would go up by more than the credit.

Here is a screen capture of the page associated with our upcoming 14 day cruise. It is being offered to new cruisers. They offered us nothing. They did upgrade our cabin which is no big deal for us, just a location change. No on board credit or offer of free wifi.

  4. Very happy that head office rectified the situation. We are doing a two week cruise on the Windsurf out of Barbados in a few weeks. We're very much looking forward to being on the ship again. On board service has always been top notch. However, we are very unhappy about Windstar offering up to $1000 in shipboard credits to new passengers signing up for the cruise. We feel we are being penalized for signing up early and for remaining committed to the cruise in spite of all the changes.

  5. True! If we do stay on this sailing it looks as if WS will be picking up an air change fee as Air Canada is insisting that flights will probably be going to SXM in December. This is despite the fact they had a hard job finding our booking in their system as it's been configured to prevent further bookings for this destination. Westjet on the other hand immediately offered a full refund, which we totally didn't expect; so kudos to them.

We had the opposite experience. AC just rescheduled us home from Barbados on December 23 with no exchange fee. Westjet would not waiver the change fee for Dec. 7 saying they are resuming flying to SMX on October 29.

  6. I dearly want to take this or a similar sailing soon!

Please let us know how you really, really, really did not like it! LOL...

Have fun and look to hear about the experience on Windstar....

    bon voyage

I'm sure you'd love Windstar. We've been on the Windsurf before ( our very first cruise ) and were hooked. We've also sailed on the Wind Spirit their smallest ship ( 128 passengers ) and enjoyed it as well. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the message.

  7. ro - No need to stay away, just laugh out loud at some of the comments. Each of us have a different comfort level and desire to approach this.

As I do not travel solo, but with my husband I usually say 'my spouse' or 'the one who must be obeyed, for the moment' etc. and when he shows up or they see us at dinner or out and about then the look on their faces in some instances is priceless...

I, personally, support any approach YOU choose to take in this regards. What makes you most comfortable, after all it is your vacation and YOU choose how you wish to interact with fellow passengers.

bon voyage My friend and stay ultra private when that is your choice.

I appreciated your response in this thread. Thanks.

  8. We purchased the beverage package on one of our cruises. We found it stressful trying to hit the break even mark every day over the cruise. We realized we don't drink enough to make it worthwhile. If they have a wine only package for dinners I would do that in the future.

  9. Hi there,

Our final piece of luggage arrived yesterday (December 29). We are missing all of our duty free liquor purchases and a bottle of red wine that amount to over $100. in costs. We know that some passengers had their liquor purchases packed in their luggage. We did have bubble wrap in our luggage.

Also, we have had no communication from Oceania about the per diem dollars owing to us for incidental costs like some warm clothing for our trip home to northern Ontario in Canada.

  10. We sailed the smallest ship in the Windstar line last December (2013). There were a number of gay couples on board. This was our second time on a Windstar ship. We loved both.
