  1. Ok.....I spent WAY too much time scrolling through pages and pages on this threa today....and yes - I DID do a "search".....and although all of the perspectives regarding those beloved officers that have left NCL are important.....I truly only want to know some personnel/crew on upcoming cruises....so any input on this area would be greatly appreciated...as I did believe that this was the original point of this thread....

NCL Pearl for September (Alaska).....particularly Butler and Concierge for Haven and Casino staff

NCL Escape - October - Eastern and Western Caribbean - again, Butlers and Concierge for the Haven and Casino staff

Other booked cruises are too far in the future to make sense in inquiring at this point.

This thread and it's predecessors has been going for 4+ years. Its primary purpose is "who's on board". But for those of who've participated from the beginning, the secondary purpose has always been discussing the pros/cons of crew, the crew's feedback and the psyche of NCL. I'd estimate that 80% of the current crew reports are posted by 20% of the CCers. What is off topic to some of those who come here to get info, has been on topic for many of those who provide most of the info. I look forward to seeing your posts of all the officers on your upcoming Pearl and Escape cruises.

  2. If e mail to bid is sent to you can bid on haven from balcony

    Hi Suzzie

Thanks for the info. I'm still trying to understand the finer points of the new system. I've got an upcoming triple B2B2B and was offered into bidding for the first two legs but not the last. I didn't bid since the third was the only one I was willing to change cabins.

  3. Uniall, I can say this. For those of us who book suites outright, and don't do the "priceline aka bid process", not only have the suite prices risen by a huge percent in increase but were not charged the service fee on the drink package. That has changed. This, as well as receiving ALL the perks are what differentiated from those receiving cheap upsells. At least we had that going for us.

On my last cruise someone asked me in the Haven how much I bid. When I said I booked my suite at original prices they laughed at me. Used to be people had to be chosen by the fairy. Now, it is a different process and I have a feeling Corporate NCL is laughing at us too.

If I understand your reductions in suite perks list items are:

    1. New service charge on drinks

    2. Change in Upsell process.

I agree the new beverage package service charge for suites is a perk reduction but often wondered how we got it in the first place.

As for the "new" bidding process on upsells, I tend to agree with you but it's still a little clouded and mist hidden for me.

It's my understanding that invites to bidding are within cabin class. Inside and Ocean view up to balcony, balcony would only go as high as mini-suites and Haven suites would only be offered to guests already in lower suites. If you have a better understanding, please correct me.

If my belief is correct, it may be a better system than before when Latitudes level or friends in high places played a part in the upsell fairy's selection who could move you from an inside cabin to the Haven.

  4. We feel much the same way.

Previous CEO did a great job and cruisers experience was the prime consideration of that CEO.

Now , with FDR ,stating that his goal is to get rid of the "bottom feeders", he has put a bad spin on NCL cruisers.

We are Platinum Plus and now are looking for other options. Not happy with the constant increase in fees, (more than any other cruise line , in the last 2 years).

Also, removing perks for Suite Guests....bad form.. no respect for your loyal cruisers.

We will Miss Prem and all the other great NCL senior members mentioned.

Not just nostalgia, sad to see degradation of a wonderful cruise line.

What do you mean by: "removing perks for Suite Guests....bad form.. " ?

  5. So sad!!! Devastated! Huge loss to NCL!! We just booked our next cruise on NCL because of him and his hospitality that we received in the Epic 2years ago with him!! Do you know if he's been hired with another cruise line?? Let us know...also if you have any email for him I can forward you mine to give to him....thanks so much!!!

Right now, he's on a sabbatical harvesting his grapes for the winery. He'll probably decide his next moves with a glass of new wine in hand. ... Opa.

  6. I maintain my view point - its not censorship its common decency. I suspect you are quoting US law not he same for the UK - The admissibility of hearsay evidence in criminal proceedings is set out in sections 114 - 136 of Part II Criminal Justice Act 2003 and is controlled. Both parties have to agree. Has the concierge agreed.

John I am not going to continue this as this is not what the board is about but I will not resile from my position that bad mouthing defenceless crew is disgraceful and shameful. I wonder what the concierge thought of the passenger.

By the way if you are a lawyer you seem to have not commented on the fact that the degree of complaint changed between the two posts,

So if you want to reply please do but do not expect another reply from me

I now understand part of the problem.

UK law allows the supression of free speech when it would be anathema in the US. Perhaps that is the core of our differing beliefs. By the by, the UK abolished the rule against self incrimination in the 1990s in order to convict IRA members in northern Ireland. You can still remain silent but it will be evidence of guilt. That's another thing we'd never allow in the US.

  7. I absolutely disagree - here we go again basing opinions on other peoples remarks.

The guy is fantastic and at the end of a very long contract. Do you work 7 days a week for 6 months constantly bombarded with guests and issues to solve. He like all the others is human and if you have a problem keep it to yourself or tell NCL! end of!!

I know I will get a lot of flack over this post but it really is time that we stop attacking individuals or making any negative remarks about them as they can not defend themselves.

I wonder what they would write about you or your friends if the could.

If you think Stefan is the best HD you ever cruised with let me tell you that you have not cruised often with NCL.

He may good but there are plenty better.

I will speak about Omar first hand. We sailed with him in February on the Jade and am disappointed that he might be there when we sail again in November on the Jade. We found him to be nice, but gave all of his attention to the Haven Suites. We were discussing the cruise with some fellow 2 bedroom suite cruisers ( 2 cabins, same family) and they did not even know who he was and what he did. We saw him 3 times, when we boarded, when we asked about priority seating for suites (he said it was only for Haven) and when we got off the ship. He did stop by our cabin a few times and left a note. It was always dinner time so we never saw him. We called him once to have him change reservations for dinner and he put us off to an assistant.

Point is I am not really bad mouthing him. He just was not as great with us as he was with some people. Maybe they were Haven guest and that why they got better service.

    Susieque

This may make your post clearer.

    John

  8. Now they are a little disappointed. Previously the third party had" serious concerns". It can not be both so you have now given in your evidence conflicting views

This is precisely what I mean. You have now given two different views and the latter is very different to the former.

Uniall is right what he says about evidence, but since you were not there and it is purely hearsay the evidence is worthless about the concierge. As I observe from your own posts you have changed your view presumably for that reason. You are going on someone else opinion. Certainly not fact.

I do not disagree with you about your opinions they are just that - they are what you find. I just think making adverse comments on these boards about crew is unhelpful as it will cloud peoples own judgement before they sail.

I am not a religious person but the bible has a great lesson about talking bad about a person. You can do much harm to them and in this case unjustly. So for the record Omar is in my opinion based on meeting with him and sailing with him fin.

You misinterpret my view and statements. One of the great misconceptions of the law's "hearsay rule" is that it is not permitted or useless. I've introduced "hearsay" evidence hundreds of times at trial.

The "hearsay" rule does not permit third hand statements of what happened to prove the "truthfulness" that those things happened.

But, those statements may be introduced to prove that someone else says those things happened.

Why? Because in the "real world" people take advice from family, friends, and strangers all the time. Based upon past "reliability" of that person, we ascribe greater or lessor weight to what they say. We then use those statements as a guide when we encounter the same people or situation. (e.g. trusting, cautious, candid, secretive, etc)

That's why statements by "reliable" secret informants are used every day as evidence to prove a crime was probably committed ("probable cause"). That's sufficient evidence to allow an arrest or issuance of a search warrant but not enough to convict.

Please, rethink your position and your attempts to impose censorship on your fellow Cruise Critics.

  9. I absolutely disagree - here we go again basing opinions on other peoples remarks.

The guy is fantastic and at the end of a very long contract. Do you work 7 days a week for 6 months constantly bombarded with guests and issues to solve. He like all the others is human and if you have a problem keep it to yourself or tell NCL! end of!!

If you think Stefan is the best HD you ever cruised with let me tell you that you have not cruised often with NCL.

He may good but there are plenty better.

I do not think that anyone would disagree that Klaus Lugmaier was in a different league (higher) and Stefan maybe good but Klaus is the Man United top of the premier league or Chelsea.

Yes, you will get some deserved flack. Not because you have a differing opinion but because you seem to believe that it is inappropriate to post a personal report and opinion or the first hand reports and opinions of others.

Many times, conflicting evidence can both be true. That is especially true when hearing reports concerning cruise staff ratings. There have been many times I have received superb treatment from cruise staff who treated my cruise mates very shabbily (and vice-versa). Same crew member but different people chemistry.

So, I think everyone should feel free to share their personal observations and first hand reports of others and be tolerant of those opinions. By the same token, everyone should feel free to post differing opinions. That way the readers can be forewarned and forearmed before boarding and adjust their interpersonal action skills accordingly.

  10. I am booked on the cancelled cruise but have not received notice from my travel agent yet. NCL will not give me any information - the rep I just spoke to sounded like she was sleep walking.

I will contact my travel agent tomorrow, but would like to know what the options are and NCL deadline dates. Can you post your letter from NCL here or email it to me at herdingdogmom at sbcglobal dot net ?

Most likely we will be sailing with you on the May 16th cruise. Thanks, Beverly

  11. NCL used to have three ships in Hawaii service, but could not make a 'go' of it, financially, so they reflagged the ships, and left the Pride of America as its only US flagged ship...

The Norwegian Sky was the 'Pride of Aloha', and the Norwegian Jade was the 'Pride of Hawaii', during the NCLAmerica years of operation.

When its time to retire the Pride of America, they likely will have a hard time getting a US built hull to replace her...unless they can get a variance like they did for the other two foreign built ships to be US registered.....

Its hard to believe that a shipyard like Newport News (Virginia) couldn't make a cruise ship. At least make it to the point where it could be sailed to Europe to have the furnishing put in. Their work force might have the people for the finer touches of a cruise ship. Aircraft Carriers don't have to many grand marble stairways & foyers.

NCL should have an easy time doing a "enlargement" project in an American Dry Dock on a pre-existing ship and getting it approved.

    I'd book a 21 day cruise with

7 days from Vancouver to Hawaii with ports in San Francisco, San Diego, & Ensenada

    7 days Hawaii Islands cruise

7 day return to Vancouver with ports in Puerto Vallarta, LA, & Seattle.

  12. Chartering a ship out from under booked passengers is a rare thing. It's even more rare since the cruise industry has moved from 9 months or less as the booking window standard to a 12-18 month window. It's most injurious to the guests when, like our case, it interferes with long planned back to back (to back) cruises, since no compensation is offered for collateral damage to the other bookings.

I had a similar situation with RCCL when I had booked a 14 day Trans Atlantic from Tampa to Barcelona, 4 day Barcelona to the Mediterranean isle of Majorca, and 12 days to Italy. They chartered out the 4 day sailing.

For those doing a back to back to back, they covered the 4 day wait by comping a 2 day post Trans Atlantic and 2 day pre Italian hotel packages. Royal Caribbean was wearing their white hats that time.

  13. Uniall said "So, I have to spend the $7K saved by cancelling my Trans Atlantic on round trip air fare Bus/First Class."

I would have kept the Transatlantic, no need for change of flights and found something else to do during the cancelled cruise. Either a cruise with a different line or a land trip.

9 days ashore waiting for the next cruise would have cost $5K+.

  14. I booked the:

    Apr 13 - Apr 25 Trans Atlantic

Apr 25 - May 04 Southampton to Iberia CANCELLED

    May 05 - May 16 Southampton to Irish/Brit Isles.

At 3 pm on Aug 2, NCL notified me the Apr 25 cruise was cancelled.

    I changed the Iberian sailing from Apr 25 - May 04 to May 16 - May 25.

Now, I have to cancel the Trans Atlantic and book air fare to UK for the cruises.

It's too late to use Flyer Miles for Bus/First Class. So, I have to pay for the flight.

Also, I have to change my return air flight and it's too late to Flyer Miles for the replacement Bus/First Class.

So, I have to spend the $7K saved by cancelling my Trans Atlantic on round trip air fare Bus/First Class.

I don't know why they cancelled the Apr 25 Iberian sailing.

Two possibilities come to mind: Private Charter or Dry Dock

  15. The name of the Concierge is the already well known Omar (Omar O Besso)

    Cheers Oliver
