I'm re-reading this thread. It brings back very happy memories. It's making me want to book my next trip to French Polynesia.

Hi  I just read through this thread & all about your visit to the Hilton Moorea. We are planning to use a day pass there in April when we have a port stop on the Grand Princess. The hotel suggests booking a taxi in advance. We will be arriving via a tender, but not sure where it will dock, help? I'd like to know how far I am from the hotel before I make a commitment.    Thanks!

Update to some previous discussions here.

Today we checked into the Rydges in The Rocks, pre our cruise starting tomorrow.

As some have said previously it is a bit old a tired, even a bit musty.

But on the other hand the room is really generously proportioned and has a nice view of the harbour and Opera House. The lobby bar was very comfortable for drinks and some casual food too.

Can’t really fault it for the price and location. An easy 200 metre walk to the cruise terminal and cost less than $400 for the night.

Thanks for the info! We are booked there for 3 nights in early March.

It was a wonderful day sailing up and down the Sounds...   What a perfect day.    I did find that even in retreat there was no forward viewing area without glass -    I had to use my selfie stick to get above glass panels and just hope for a good picture.

We're in an SV for our Edge cruise, do you think we'll get good views of the sounds from there/

This is a quote from Celebrity's website and no corkage fee if you have a drinks package. On the Apex in September, we had no problem bringing back to the ship one bottler per person at most ports in Europe.

Is there a corkage fee if I bring wine to consume onboard?

When consumed in a shipboard restaurant, bar or dining venue, each bottle shall be subject to a corkage fee of $25. Corkage fees do not apply to guests who have a Classic or Premium Beverage Package.

That is very useful info because we are visiting several vineyards during our NZ trip, thanks for posting!

On the Royal, transpacific, we convinced the waiter that we only wanted to share a pizza, as we always do.  He seemed confused but said 'OK, sure'. He brought us one salad, then one pizza and finally said we had dessert to come but we declined - we were charged two visits. We wanted to try Sushi so saved our other 'free one' for it. Went to Alfredo's a second time and stressed to manager checking us in that we were having one pizza a la carte. He agreed and as expected we were charged $8.50. We had the fixed meal at Sushi place and could easily have shared one portion at lunch. So, I agree with your points. I now understand how the Plus inclusions work, but it is silly and not well thought out - especially just two 'free' on a 21 day cruise!

Agree with you & Trak, we would never eat a whole pizza each, at lunch or dinner. Such a dumb idea & we will be on the Grand for 22days & only 2 visits each but able to order 44 wacky sundaes!

Thanks for the advise.    I read VitiminWater and really low in electrolytes - but at least some. I put them on a list of things to pick up today

It has been a slow process and each day has been better    My go to at home is Gatorade but of course they don't have that aboard.

I've been taking it easy and adding fluids with fruits

Yesterday at Seas the Temps were about 95 and HUMID    Even the Australians were complaining and many lobster red.   It was actually hotter yesterday than when in Bali.

I had orthopedic surgery back in March. The next day my sodium level dropped significantly & my electrolytes were very abnormal & I had to stay another day. The first thing they gave me was 3 small cans of tomato juice (so full of sodium) & 2 bags of potato chips! This was ordered by the renal team as they were finishing up with another patient. Once I finished a bag of chips & 2 cans of juice they gave me the sodium tablets which I took for another 2 weeks. Do you like tomato juice, just saying😀

f you or other's get into DNA - do some research.   On a group on FB as an "Angel" I help adoptees find their birth parent.   There are some really tragic stories of people contraction their birth mother or father only to be rejected once again.   Others of non-adoptees who found by DNA they were a product of their mothers affair and their Father wasn't their father.   You can imagine the conversation with Mom.

Yup, know what your talking about. I did my DNA 5 years ago to see how Irish I was, since every time I'm in Ireland I seem to look like someone who lives down the road. I knew my grandparents were born there. So I discovered that the man who I though was my father, was not & my mother had a short relationship with a man who lived around the corner in NYC! I'm glad I found out because my non biological father died of colon cancer at 46 & I had to have a colonoscopy every 3 years because of it. Now I don't!  By the way 97% Irish 3%Scotish!

We modified plans and went to Clarke Quay.   It is a robust area along the Quay -  pronounced Key per Iain, David and Robert.   Ok I take constructive criticism.

I'm pretty sure most Americans say "quay" with a q sound. In Belfast back in 2019, we were driving around looking for our hotel which was near the river & address said Quayside. Having phone problems & no map we asked people in the street & no one knew what I was talking about. Finally I showed the address to a woman & she said, you mean "keyside"!  At the hotel I was asked if we had trouble finding the hotel I mentioned the word Quayside & she said it's a french word, but I mean we're not in France! LOL

Looking forward to your report on the Edge, we board, March 13th!

Thanks for all the great info!

Thank you everyone for all the replies.  I think we will go ahead with the cruise. We have insurance.

I'm starting to do the pre surgery exercises and some walking. Walking is hard because of the pain in the knee but I know I have to also get my muscles ready.

Thanks again, your suggestions are helpful.

    Good Luck!

  11. So it depends on how your recovery goes. I had knee replacement this past March and I had a very good recovery. I stayed in the hospital 2 nights & followed everything my doctor & PT said to do. In May at 9 weeks I took a flight to Texas to visit family. I did ok with the flight & car rides, it was a relatively easy trip. I still iced my knee several times a day while I was there. I don't think your crazy, I live in NY & so I get the cold thing🤣
