Thanks; I was going to ask that. We (read I ) splurged on a suite this time. I was pretty sure that was one of the suite (sweet ) perks, but I wasn't sure.

Interested in investing, but have a question. If I bought stock now, would the OBC benefit apply to cruises already booked or only future cruises?

I recently decided to splurge and upgraded our cabin from a balcony to an Ocean Suite on the Radiance in September. I've seen several OS suite video reviews and am excited with the larger bathroom and spa tub. Are there any other "perks" associated with a suite booking? I think I read (can't remember where) that suites include priority embarkation and debarkation. Is that "for real"? :) Is there anything else I can look forward to?

DH's health is not what it used to be and this is likely our "last big fling" before we settle into pottering around the house, so I'm trying to make this experience truly memorable.

One other thing: I may have found the last remaining starboard suite. Since we're cruising out of NYC, I wanted to make sure to have a ring-side view of the Statue of Liberty as we sail away. Will we be able to view from our starboard balcony?

7 = Cove balcony

There are various other categories on some ships, such as the H =  Havana cabins, F = Family Harbor...

Within each category the letters indicate location on the ship, the lowest letter being the least desirable.  Desirable in the eyes of the guest.  If a cruise line determines that more people want a cabin on a high deck midship, they will charge the most for that cabin.  EM

I've searched, but can't find what I'm looking for. I've noticed that Carnival has different cabin classes - 8B, 8C, 4E, etc. Is there a "cheat sheet" that shows how Carnival rates each of these classes? Is one supposedly better (or worse) than the other? I understand that - theoretically - balcony is "better" than interior or ocean-view, but are there cabins within those categories that are "better" than others?

DH and I have this cruise booked for September 27th this year, and we're really looking forward to it! Hubby can't stand the heat, so couldn't talk him into another Caribbean itinerary. This itinerary - Boston, Portland, Halifax, & St. John - looks to be perfect!

We're on the September 27th sailing. We're flying into NYC the day before, staying in Manhattan, and catching a Broadway show - Chicago!

I'm loving your review. DH and I are sailing on the Radiance out of NYC in September, and I'm really excited. I especially love the sail away pictures. I booked a balcony on the starboard side just for that view!

Sorry - we're on Carnival Radiance, departing from NYC.

DH and I are booked for Canada/New England cruise from NYC in September. We're also flying in the day before. I've booked Carmel for transportation from LGA to Manhattan. Cost is +/- $60.00, which includes tolls and gratuities. I haven't yet booked transport from the hotel to the port for the following day, as I don't know yet what my check-in time for the cruise is. If the trip from LGA to Manhattan goes well, I may use the same service for the quick trip to the cruise ship the next day.

We originally were going to do the hop on hop off, but it was sold out.  So, I booked the graveyards and ghosts tour through RCI thinking, okay, it's transportation to and from downtown, but we really enjoyed it.  We made several stops at cemeteries and at Boston Common.  Our tour guide was the "ghost" of a writer (I think epitaths) and he was very good.  We saw gravemarkers of famous people, heard stories about others and were able to walk around several locations.  Our last stop was Faneuil Hall marketplace where we had lunch and walked around.  The last stop, you could either stay onboard and go back to the ship immediately or stay and take another bus back which was just for people who had paid for the excursions.  The tour was really good and then on our bus ride back to the ship, our driver told us more info about Boston.  Both our excursion drivers in Boston and Portland were transplants but they knew a lot about their adopted hometowns.

You don't need an excursion. The ship docks in the Seaport, which has tons of new shops and restaurants. And you can hop on the Silver Line (underground bus) there and connect to the rest of the subway system and see the city on your own. If all else fails, just find the red line on the sidewalk and follow the Freedom Trail and it will take you to all the sights. Enjoy my city! 

Thank you! That's what I was thinking we'd do . . . hit the shops and find the Freedom Trail. - I just wasn't sure about the docking situation. I'm sure we'll enjoy your city. :)

Hello! We're cruising on the Radiance in September on the Canada/New England route. I've picked what look like awesome excursions for Portland, St. John, and Halifax, but I didn't see anything I liked for the Boston stop. What are our options if we just want to do something on our own? I'm not sure if the ship actually docks in Boston or if we would need to tender to shore. Can someone enlighten me? If we do tender, can we catch the tender even if we don't have an excursion booked?
