  1. My sister and I were also worried about going on Grandeur.  We cruise every year with our husbands and wanted a girls getaway.  We went last month for 5 nights. We've never been on a ship that old or small. On top of it, we had our first inside cabin. Always had balconies.  We were nervous. Did we make a mistake? No!! Everything about it was good. We always found something to do. We are in our 50s.  Stayed up til midnight every night (we don't do this with our spouses!)

I have 2 complaints. The shower is tiny! And that darn shower curtain.

Also I always felt so warm in the Windjammer. All those windows have heat pouring in during the day. We just didn't stay long. I hope you enjoy your cruise.

I feel like these are different items. The bag in the planner now is fairly new, and comes filled in the room when you arrive It's kind of bulky so I don't see them filling it- but maybe they do and it's just not mentioned!

Yes, it's different.  He bought his years ago at one of the bars. He didn't buy it in the Gifts and Gear section of cruise planner. His cooler bag is different. It doesn't zip. Just has 2 handles.

  3. My brother in law brings his Royal cooler bag on every Royal cruise. They "refill" it for him. It's something like buy 4 get 1 free or something like that. He's been doing this for years. They last did it for him on Oasis in April 2022 and Odyssey in Dec of 2022. There was one bar that said they don't do it anymore so he went to a different bar and they did.

    *this was for beer

  4. We booked an Ultra Spacious balcony on Harmony. For us and grandkids. Sleep 5. Has bunk beds. Google "cabin 7330 on Harmony" and you can see lots of videos. You have to book these well in advance because there's only a few. We booked 14 months in advance for our cruise this Dec. Back then paid about $3200 for 4 of us.

  5. The last time I walked through (April) they had security guys walking around.  As a vendor approached me a security guard asked 'is everything OK ma'am'.  I said I was fine. I was familiar with the sometimes aggressive vendors. The guard walked along with me for a bit  and he was telling me that there have been so many complaints of aggressive vendors that they are trying to make it less stressful for the cruise passengers. I'm not sure if this is a regular thing now but this was back in April 2022.

  6. I've been cruising for many years and never had my feet and ankles swell until I turned 50. Now by day 3 I can't wear shoes to dinner. I need to wear flip flops! I now bring compression socks to wear at night and keep my legs elevated while in bed. It helps! But by the next night they are swollen again but at least they are fine during the day.

ok, may I ask a favor? We are sailing on Odyssey in December, and my parents (god love them) have some very unusual requirements on what they like.  Could someone let me know the outlet situation?  Is there one by the bed?  How many US? How many European (and does anyone know if that changes if the ship leaves from Europe?)?

Also, the tv situation?  How can you break into streaming your own information on it.  We did it successfully on the quantum but couldn't on the explorer and it made them irritable all week...

    Thanks guys!

We just got off of the Odyssey.  There is one outlet by one side of the bed. Wished they had another on the other side. The phone has a USB port. I plugged my cell phone into that at night. I can't answer the TV question.

OMG I forgot to mention this incident:  While viewing Sailaway in Port Everglades on the glass walkway at Sky Pad, we witnessed a lady drop a glass beer bottle on the glass and it shattered! I kid you not. Looked just like a windshield shattered. They roped the whole walk off for the rest of the cruise. It really wasn't dangerous as Cpt. Sinje told us the walkway is actually 2 separate panes of 2" thick glass and only the top pane shattered.  Snag I can't find the pics....Todd will have to get home but I'll come back and post them.

What was really funny was I had just finished telling a teen not to be scared "You couldn't break this glass with a machine gun..."  I mean I had just finished saying that when we heard and felt the bottle hitting it.  Too funny!  They closed it down and made us all leave.

We saw the broken glass! I was wondering how that could happen. I took a picture.

  9. I want to cancel the drink package and rebook at the lower Black Friday price (I know... issues with website currently so will do this later)

But I had a $350 OBC that I used to purchase the drink package. If I cancel, they will refund my credit card what they originally charged but happens with that $350 OBC?

Part of it was from stockholder benefit and the other was Royal Visa points (if that matters)

    Thanks for the help!

  10. Dec 2001 Radiance of the Seas, was my first cruise. I fell in love with cruising! Got married on Brilliance in 2005, praying my  husband would fall in love with cruising as I did!

Luckily, he did. Have now been on 14 cruises.

I often wonder how much of a price drop I could have gotten on that Radiance cruise after the 9/11 tragedy. I almost didn't want to go. But being my 1st cruise, I didn't know I'd probably be eligible for a price drop.

Little did I know how "empty" the ship was. In spite, we had a great 1st cruise. Enough to get me hooked.

Sailed Dec 9-16 in an IV also. I doubt I will consider an IV again. It felt much more like an oceanview cabin with a window.  The veranda was more like an enclosed porch to me.

The stateroom had enough storage and the beds were comfortable. The Teal color accents nicely complimented the neutral tones. We never slid the vanity desk in that is in front of the full length mirror as we needed the counter space. We only closed the IV glass doors once just to see how they closed.  There are lots of gaps. Otherwise, they stayed open the whole cruise. Anyone I spoke to never closed them either.

The veranda area is real tight, and I thought the chairs were uncomfortable.  I ended up taking one of the king size bed pillows, turned it vertically and put it behind my back for cushioning and also it allowed me to rest my head back a bit. We also used one of the big square Kelly Hoppen pillows as a footrest on top of the small table.  When you open the window, the AC shuts off and the cabin gets warm rather quickly.  We did not have it open that much because of this.  The buttons to operate the window were very tempermental.  If you didn't press the button in the exact spot, the window did not move.  There were times I thought it was broken. Thankfully, it was not.  The shades worked fine, and it was easier to use the control by the door for this.

The captain disabled the windows several times.  It shows up on the keypad by the door as "Window Disabled".  The were disabled on embarkation day, debarkation day, at least twice during the cruise when they were washing the windows, and then on the last sea day for a while due to rain.

My suggestions to X:  Remove the glass doors and the shades, and put drapes back up where the doors currently are. At least then you can peak out in the morning, and one person can sleep while the other is sitting on the "enclosed porch".

I totally agree with you on the buttons!  5 or 6 times I told DH that I couldn't get window down. I pressed and pressed. Every time he came over and did it. He had to remind me to press and hold in same exact spot with even pressure.

Thanks for your post, sunluva. We felt the same, and have a cruise booked in an IV. I hope we won’t regret it. How often did you find your IV window locked? Would you mind posting your cabin number, and/or posting your cabin information in the Edge cabin spreadsheet  (link below)?

    https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2609144-edge-class-cabin-information-compilation-please-do-not-post-cabin-questions-here/

I found our window locked twice. I think both times were due to rain. We were in 6232. Just above lifeboats.  Didn't like that either but we could put up with that more than the actual IV cabin setup. I will post on the link you provided, on Monday, when I'm on my desktop computer vs. my phone. I think after cruising 13 times in a regular balcony, we just weren't prepared for this change. We always wanted to "try" an inside or an oceanview. DH said after having the IV, we will stick with traditional balconies.  No inside or oceanview for him!

I have absolutely NO complaints about the room itself. It was great!
