  1. Hi ,

we are going to be staying on the big Island in a couple of weeks and are looking for some restaurants recommendations. This will be our first trip to Hawaii and we are very excited .  We want to try good local food, and we eat everything  . We aren't picky . We decided to forgo a Luau as they didn't have the best reviews .  We are renting a car  so we will be able to get around on our own.  Thank you

Has anyone used a luggage tracker or similar device. Carnival lost my luggage on last cruise. Someone actually wrote over my room number on luggage tag an put another room number. I would like to low jack my luggage on next cruise.

yes they are great when all the suitcases are dumped in the terminal . I bought them specifically for cruising.  We were always able to find our luggage easily with them .

  3. we just bought new mask /snorkel together ,think it is called tribord .check on amazon or ebay . we havent used them but they get excellent reviews .we have had cheap and expensive snorkels and masks ,i have a smaller face and have trouble with leaking or if i put to tight ,it hurts my face. also seem to fool with the snorkel all the time . we will be trying out the new ones in a few weeks . i hope they work well .

  4. A few years ago we went through a place called Upachaya ,it was called a wellness center i believe. the guys who took us out were from roatan and had been educated in the us. it to this day remains one of the best snorkels we have ever had . they took us out from thier resort and we were the only people in the area.

  5. Hi , did you have a reservation at the restaurant and do you remember the name of the restaurant ? I know you said it got crowded after you had been there but it sounded like you didnt have the reservation until after you arrived there. this sounds like it would be right up our alley ,especially the snorkeling but we would like to know exactly where we are going and this is our first time to Martinique . really excited to hear you had good snorkeling because i have seen alot of diving tours but no snorkeling ones. Thanks

  6. Thanks! That's what we are doing right now. If worse comes to worse I think ill book a snorkel trip with another company. I'll be fine as long as I am in a group.

Hi ,we went snorkeling with Upachaya ,I believe they also do diving .I can say the snorkeling was spectacular so I can only imagine how the diving would be.

  7. We cruise to Belize on Carnival Conquest and want to snorkel the reef there. I hate the big groups and am looking for a private or smaller snorkel trip that is eco oriented if possible. Not really interested in sharks or stingrays just the reef. There are about 10 of us going and we don't mind joining another group I just don't like the party/cattle boats. We range from experienced to moderately experienced but watch out for each other.

    3 main questions;

    1) What are the best places to go that are not horribly crowded?

    2) Who offers the best tours or private trips?

    3) Is there anything or places we should stay away from? I have heard Belize is less safe than some other areas.

    Thanks,

    Lucy

Hi Lucy ,A couple of years ago we (4) booked a tour with a gentleman named Mario on Caye Caulker. it was wonderful .we had to take a water taxi from belize city and then when we got there he was supposed to meet us at the dock ,he wasn't there but the other guys around said Mario was in his office. so we had to find him and he is definitely on island time .we had a wonderful time and got some great pictures. we have one where he fed the stingrays and off to the side was a barracuda just waiting and watching . Belize is one of our favorite places .

  8. We're going on a B2B Valor cruise in March and will visit Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, and St. Maarten. DH wants to do some snorkeling. Problem is, I cannot swim. :o Is there an excursion on any of those islands where we could go snorkeling that someone like me could also partake in? Thanks for any help. :)

You don't have to be to good a swimmer to snorkel ,of course Like the other person said it is always a good idea to take some lessons before you go. I was 43 when I took swimming lessons. the hardest part is learning to breathe through your mouth, I would practice in a pool or if you live somewhere like me ,try the bathtub. Snorkeling is one of my very favorite things. it is amazing what kind of self confidence a snorkel vest will give you .. In Barbados you can go right from the beach and snorkel with the sea turtles which is absolutely magnificent and if you are lucky enough to blend in with one of the tour groups that are feeding them they pop right up out of the water and are swimming all around you. we have snorkeled in all those places but prefer to book small private tours. we don't care for the large crowds when snorkeling

  9. We are in our mid 50s going on our first cruise. Went snorkeling one time in past but was not a great experience do to very ruff water/wind.

We are planning on getting our own lower priced gear, but am wondering if this would be good enough considering we may never do it again?

I am also reading about snorkeling vests. Are these needed or extremely helpful? What can you tell me about them?

Any tips or advice would really be appreciated. We plan to snorkel at both Maya Key, and Little French Key.

Hi ,I just ordered a Cressi snorkel ,mask and fins from amazon, my husband had gotten me the aqualung for xmas and I started reading the reviews and they weren't all that but the cressi had very good reviews. I still have a better mask that I take too but the cressi seems fine ,especially ifyou are not planning to do it often. It is about the same as the one you are looking at too. I actually take a vest because I was tired of getting chafed from the ones they give you . my favorite is a jet ski vest , you might want a shirt to wear over your bathing suit.

  10. Being an Erie native, I have to ask, where in PA?. GOPRO is a hot new device that is small, comes with a waterproof case that is good to 100ft. They are showing up everywhere, on surfboards, ski helmets, radio controlled cars and lots of places. checkout gopro.com

Hi Bill, we are just a few miles south of the Allegheny County line. right next to the first township in Pittsburgh. Peters Township .we have been very pleased with our canon D10 ,but after several years my husband thinks it is not working as well underwater. It still works fine above water so we may still take a chance on it because it does take some nice pics and came recommended by a few other people on cc.

  11. I have a different brand, I'll look when I get home. Its my second one. The first one was snorkel only, the 2nd one is scuba depth rated. My advise is try it in a pool and look for indicators. The 2nd mask I had was a lot better in that there is an LED you can see without removing the mask. It wasn't real visible in bright day light snorkeling, but at scuba depth it worked great.

The one time I was snorkeling I lost a picture that would have been great because the camera had timed out and went into power saving mode and I couldn't see the LED. But to answer your questions. The pictures were worthwhile. My next dive I'm trying the GOPRO.

Hi Bill ,thanks for the info . being that it is winter here in western pa. I don't think we will get to try it in the pool until vacation .we had a canon D-10 I think ,and it took some nice pics but it is actin up and we thought maybe we could use these instead but I am thinking maybe we should buy another camera just for backup. my husband will dive down several feet to take a picture while snorkeling but we wont be scuba diving .what is a GOPRO?

  12. I welcome snorkeling and diving suggestions for these islands. I am a very avid snorkeler (no liquor/music sails) and a very novice diver.

    thanks

Hi .since no one is answering me I will answer you .In Barbados we swam right from shore to swim with the sea turtles and we kind of blended in with a tour group because they come around for the food .they are absolutely beautiful and they come right up out of the water. we have been to st. kitts a few time and the tour guide is named Glen .I will see if I still have his card ,if not my friend has it .we only like to do private tours as well ,usually keeping it between 4 and 6 people. We love to snorkel too and have gone on some really wonderful snorkel tours .I am going to find the names of the tour guides we used and will pass them on to you . If you know anyone who has used a camera mask let me know, lol.

  13. Hi we are doing a 12 night BI in sept. on carnival and they have extended the time in Dublin until 10:00 p.m. so we are wondering if we should plan to do a tour of wicklow or just stay in dublin and drink up (figuratively and literally) the city . I don't want to miss out on the city but don't want to feel we missed out on the countryside either.

  14. Hi ,we are normally cruising but have compromised with friends to do a land trip and are planning to do chichen itza and wonder if anyone can recommend a good tour company? I have looked at several different ones that seem to vary widely in price for what looks like the same or very similar tours .we are ruin junkies too and one of our favorite places is Belize,Xunantunich is great and one of our very favorites is Lamanai. the ride to get there is almost as incredible as the ruins them selves. Thanks

  15. As a local resident, as per cruise critic rules I cannot recommend any restaurants in Dubrovnik. You will find many restaurants around the old town and do enjoy our fresh seafood.

The Synagogue is very small, it was part of a house many years ago. East to find, it's located on Jewish Street. There is a also a small museum there which is very interesting and moving.

There's so much to see in the old town, hidden gems are scattered all over town. Get off the main drag and use the side streets and get the town map at the tourist bureau center as you depart the shuttle bus.

Thank you for your help, are you saying there is much to see if we get off the beaten path and go down the side streets? I will definitely try the seafood. the synagogue looked bigger in the picture, but maybe it was the angle of the camera.

  16. You should not even try to do a trip to Montenegro in the amount of limited time you're in Dubrovnik. You could visit Konavle and Dubrovnik in one day, if it's not August when traffic can be backed up. There are many historical and cultural sights in the old part of town, more than enough to take the entire day. The closest island to Dubrovnik is Lokrum, a 15 minute ferry ride from the old port. It's a natural preserve and it is where we locals go to swim. There are no beaches, we just jump off the rocky shoreline into the clear blue Adriatic. Spend your time in Dubrovnik, you will not regret this decission.

Okay, thank you for your help, should we skip Konavle and just stay in Dubrovnik? we would also like to see the synagogue too. can you recommend a place to eat in town that isn't going to be over run with cruise ship passengers(like us) LOL . we prefer smaller crowds for tours We do like seafood..

  17. Okay , i have been looking at tours for Dubrovnik ,both private and through the ship. the private tours seem to be more expensive than the ships. For instance a tour of Montenegro, is 541 usd. Yikes! While we won't be doing that one,can anyone recommend a tour company in the area that is good or should we just stick to the ship one ? Also what about touring the islands ,would we be sorry if we miss the city of Dubrovnik? Could we do Konavle and Dubrovnik in a day? Since this is our first time there we want to make as much of the day as we can.
