You should be able to book it either way if I understand the question correctly.

Never even gave a second thought to the carts being in the way or unsanitary, they usually come attached to a steward and a chance to chat with someone from far away. The only thing in the way and unsanitary in the halls IMO is all the half chewed, gross room service jetsam left by considerate passengers for all of us to enjoy!

We always try to get Plaza deck around the art in many ships...very quiet

I think the worst part of a code red is that the dedicated staff onboard have to work overtime. There work day is long enough already but with a code red, t can be extended four hours or more...

A couple years ago an employee told us they weren't allowed in the buitiques during a code red, I promptly told my wife what a cespool the shops were and she should stay clear!

We are a group of four 30-somethings who are interested in active excursions. I was thinking that in Skagway we might actually eschew an excursion and hike to Upper Dewey, which I heard is strenuous. I am also looking into Above and Beyond in Juneau... But we haven't settled on anything.
Does anyone have any other ideas for folks who like very active excursions? I've gotta work off those cruise ship calories somehow!
Oh...and we are traveling soon. We are on the Millennium 6/20-17/14. Stopping in Ketchikan, Icy Strait, Juneau and Skagway.
Thanks!
We have above and beyond booked for september, did the laughton glacier hike in skagway last year, very cool.

Sorry, cheap looking and it looks like the view from inside the window just got smaller...maybe they should paint them orange.

We did it last year, easy hike for starters. Last mile is river rock and loose footing. We enjoyed the trip and would do it again.

The only advantage to the Crown is it has Glacier Bay on the itinerary. The Ruby has Tracy Arm. Crown has a Sat. departure out of Seattle and Ruby a Sunday. I think we'll go with the Ruby since we want to be able to fly into Seattle the day before.
Now comes the fun of booking and planning!
That explains the cost difference, Glacier Bay is preferable to most including myself...

Did a TA on the Ruby and loved it...then again, we've loved every ship so I'm no help. I believe it's the crew that makes a ship great so there's no telling what it'll be like in a year. I guess all things considered I would book the Ruby simply because, for some reason the price is better for what should be basicaaly the same ship...or am I missing something?

If you are concerned at all about motion sickness, purchase Bonine from any drug store. It is very effective preventing motion sickness. My wife takes one each morning just as a preventative measure and we always book Caribe, mid-ship.
We've taken quite a few first timers with us and I always suggest trying the remedy way ahead of time to see how it affects you. There are various kinds and if one makes you less than fine, try another. You may not need it at all but it's nice to have a fall back position! Enjoy the cruises and don't worry.

Looks wonderful. Room rates start at 350. a night.
I took my wife for the night for her Birthday, big day inthe big city, ferry ride to downtown, dinner, Inn at the Market, the whole thing...europe was cheaper! She's worth it.

We are really considering spending a day in Seattle then taking the train to Vancouver .
We love seattle (we live there) Pike place market is great. There is an awesome hotel right at the entrance to the market, Inn at the Market, not to miss, get up in the morning, grab a cup of coffee from the very first Starbucks next door, sit in the roof top deck and watch the city wake up. The train is nice but watch the schedule, only some go all the way to Vancouver, most transfer you to a bus. Quick Shuttle is another easy option. Have a great time

Thank you, that may be an option! We really wanted to sail out of Seattle but maybe We can negotiate :)
Seattle is convenient but day 6 finds you bombing down the west side of vancouver island trying to make victoria by 8:00pm for a few hour stop. When sailing out of vancouver you get to spend more time in Ketchikan then set for a leisure sail down the inside, east side of the island all day 6. Very nice way to end a cruise.

I must say, packing a suit for a short cruise is slightly bothersome. I hope Princess adopts the Dress for Success on all short trips, great idea!

I believe most itineraries visit Hubbard glacier on southbound route, could be wrong. We done alaska 8 times now and going again the september. The weather is...well, its Alaska, its going to rain on every cruise at least one day. Glacier days will be cold...everytime. Its what makes it special. In my opinion and I'm sure people will disagree, but Alaska weather is too unpredictable to plan around so don't even consider it. I love the last cruise of the season so this year we booked a b/b 14 day round trip Vancouver/Whittier/Vancouver...join us!

We've sailes Alaska a few times. My wife will usually be one of the few in sanctuary. If its not to ugly out she will do a half day. $10.00. On Glacier Bay day they hit you up for $50.00 usually. They tend to get a couple dozen pacs or more.

Save the money...balconies are nice, windows are fine, interiors work...spend what you save on a nice excursion!

our Princess ship embarks at berth 46...never had to go there before so my question does the "Red Van" take you to the right berth from the airport or to the normal pier? Or should I just spend the extra money and use the cruise line transfer? We always have used the Red vans in the past and its been great

DW and I stayed two cabins forward in Riviera 738 on a transatlantic. Best location we've ever had! Looking aft, we envied R 746...

I agree, maybe he was joking with little or no sence. Other parts of the world can be less correct and civilized than us...pun intended. My wife has needed a cigerette after security in many countries airport cues, she mearly laughs it off and moves along with the rest of her life, not thrusting her morality on the situation where she is the visitor.
